I’m 99% sure the Mario sets being the electronic stuff came from Nintendo. Either to protect their IP or because they wanted to be new and different (two things the company is notorious for)
The Lego Movie is probably in limbo because of the split from WB and now the new “Lego movie” coming out. DC they just don’t believe in right now, they got burned too many times. Hopefully the new Superman sets sell well.

missed oportunities: lego ideas rules. I often think these rules are somewhat limiting and inconsistent from what lego can actually show, the website says that certain adult themes are not welcome for ridiculous resons despite adult ideas or IPs being submitted in the website before, yeah You can't make sets based on anime but somehow you got Naruto in the website a couple of times, you can't make a set based around movies like shaun of the dead or scott Pilgrim despite Seinfeld, The big bang theory and the office having official sets, you Can't make replicas of weapons but they sell official models of weapons from the star wars and marvel universes, also, why ban certain IPs for being too gory when you made sets based on Blues Brothers and Jaws? I certainly think that lego ideas should have certain rules like no references to alcohol, guns, drugs, Gex or blood but you can't omit sets based on more mature properties specially if they can easilly omit certain aspects of them and lego recently having sets specifically designed for adults.
What are your thoughts on the big fig? I know your opinions on when a minigigure gets bigger it shouldn't develop human characteristics, so I think you should have a go at making a custom Red Hulk for the new Movie, and maybe make a vid out of it, I would love to see what you come up with.
Honestly I'm really interested to see someone in the Gauge 1 community build a lego model of James from T&F, that's in scale with the Collectors Edition Hogwarts express. Would be pretty cool!
Not only have Lego realised they don't need a star wars cmf series, there is a growing trend of inaccuracies & decline in quality when it comes to the minifigures from the theme. This is unlike cmf series minifigures that typically have incredible levels of detail and design choices
gotta be a lot of the ips that are blacklisted from lego ideas for "inappropriate" since half of the ips are just not inaproriate, take exaple the childrens fantasy novel and grafic novel series wings of fire
Heres a simple work around for the Mario one; The digital figures are "big" Mario after getting the mushroom, the normal scale minifigures are the standard ones. This would create a bridge between the two themes whilst maintaining continuity and original lore as well as bringing a new play feature.
