    Great job explaining the process. Helped me a bunch. I had instructions with mine, but like most, they seem to leave out just a couple of things I would have liked to know when putting together. Your piece was precise and to the point. No long explanations. I appreciate that. Great job. Thank you.

    I purchased this miter stand and just finished putting it together by following your directions and it was a breeze because of your video. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this video together to help everyone out. If I could just add a comment that may help....I have a 12 Dewalt miter saw so I thought I would adjust the tool mount secondary stop so my saw would be more centred on the stand.....big mistake, by doing this it caused the support leg to bind when opening or closing the stand. I couldn't tell this until I had the saw attached. Once I put the tool mount secondary stop back to the original position, the stand now goes up and down very smooth. Thanks again for your great video and stay safe and healthy!

    Thanks for making this video, the instructions were great. The stand is very impressive. It's replacing a Dewalt DWX726, and I couldn't be happier. The Dewalt was overpriced junk, this Bosch is a quality stand.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  2 роки тому

      Glad it was helpful. I'm not familiar with the Dewalt stand but did watch one video. The main thing that would turn me off on that stand is that it uses a gas strut to aid in lifting. It will go bad over time and warrant a replacement. That's a no go in my book. The other thing I noticed is there is no quick disconnect to use the saw without the stand. You would need to unbolt it. Both my Ryobi stand and this one has that feature. That's my second no go. I didn't think any deeper than those two observations.
      I'm still completely satisfied with mine. Good luck with yours. Take care, G.

    Mine didn't come with instructions, so this was incredibly helpful - thanks! One thing that helped when putting the rail on was laying the thing on it's back so you're putting the nuts on from the top and not the side. I can't tell you how many times I dropped those stupid nuts! Also, I used needle nose pliers to hold the nut in the track while turning the bolt rather than trying to screw the nut onto the bolt in that tiny track. Bosch is always an excellent product, but they really need to work on the design of the rail attachment!

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  Рік тому

      Yeah, that part was a pain for sure. Good tips on how you got it accomplished. Agreed, they need to make it easier to attach the rail. Glad it worked out though. Take care, G.

    I love this video and the T4B is a great product, however I respectfully suggest that probably if you need to watch this video to set up your T4B, it is going to take you longer than 30 minutes to build. Like ghostses, installing the aluminum rack was the most difficult step, I understand why he could not show how he did it, the way I handled it was that I actually used the extension on the rack to line the holes up with the stand. It was slow and tortuous, but it did work for me, my total time to build was about 4 hours. Yes, I acknowledge I am at best and advanced beginner, but we need great tools too. I strongly recommend the T4B but know that it will take a while to assemble.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  2 роки тому

      Thanks Ralph! Great tip on using the extension to get things lined up! Much better than my pain. It's a pain either way, but yours seems to include a third hand to assist. I'm sure your tip will help others. Good luck and take care, G.

    Good review and nice stand... I have an older gravity rise stand that came with my 8 year old Bosch (4100-09) 10" worksite table saw and love it. That said, the only Achilles heel to the stand are the wheels. I couldn't tell from your video if Bosch is still using pneumatic tires as they did when mine was new but if so they're OK but always seemed to deflate regularly.
    Since I only run the saw around my garage and never over rough terrain the way a contractor might, I choose to replace the wheels. I found a set of comparably sized hard rubber (non-pneumatic) wheels at HF some years ago and haven't encountered any problems.
    Best of all I never have flat tires anymore or need to remember and check air pressure... :)

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  8 років тому

      +hiptech
      Thanks! I've been using it quite a bit and couldn't be more pleased. I should have noted the tires, but didn't think of it. They're either semi-pneumatic or solid rubber. Either way, they won't ever go flat. It sounds like Bosch has changed them over the years- at least on this stand.
      It sounds like your upgrade to the HF wheels was a great thing to do. I can't stand having to keep up with small pneumatic tires. They're either aired up or they're completely flat- most of the time flat...lol.
      I might have one of their work-site saws on my radar in the future. Good to hear yours has been serving you well! Either that, or pull the legs off my contractor saw and mount it to a gravity rise stand if possible. I haven't looked into either, but that's my plan...lol. Take care, G.

      Just an update... after purchasing the GCM12SD last month I've been diligently watching Amazon (and other sites) for a price drop on this stand, no luck as the price seems stuck at $299. Well my weekly ritual of visiting HD every Sunday finally paid off.
      Yesterday after walking through the entrance my eyes glanced down near the return desk and low and behold there on the floor under a sign marked "Clearance" (siting among several "decent deals") was a familiar large blue unopened box (with factory strapping). That's right just like the miter saw HD has decided (for whatever insane reason) to blow these Bosch tools out. Needless to say my heart raced and I immediately recognized a manager who I previously shared a few conversations with.
      I told him I was very interested in this stand and asked if he might consider a "good customer" discount? It may have helped that I am remodeling my bath rooms and spend a great amount of time (and money) there. He seemed to think about this longer than I expected but in the end gave me my discount.
      Bottom line, instead of the going $299 the item was marked down with a clearance tag to $209 and with a $20 discount I picked it up for $190 plus tax or little over $200! Not exactly the stuff of dreams but definitely a price I could live with :)
      He also mentioned that they had 3 of these in inventory but the odd thing was prior to yesterday I hadn't seen any large Bosch tools anywhere in the store (believe me I looked). My advice to anyone interested is to check with your local HD and ask a manager if they have any in inventory and would be willing to discount. I suspect floor space may be an issue in most stores especially during the holidays and they appear motivated to move these...

    I wish it would work with my Hitachi C12RSH without the use of plywood for a mounting plate.

      Thanks Mario. I read one question on Amazon that asked if it your saw would fit, and they said yes. I, of course can't confirm that, or if they used a plate of some sort. I took a peak at the Dewalt stand and agree with you about not being able to remove the saw. The other thing I noticed is there appear to be no stops for repetitive cuts. That alone would be a deal breaker for me, but over all it looks like a fine product. You might check out the Ridgid AC9945 as another option. It does have removable mounts as well as stops. I can only vouch for the Bosch stand though, and really like it. Good luck, G.

      They're pretty stout Chris, but will sag some with heavier material- not unlike most stands. I compensate for the sag by raising the support arm till the stock is resting flat on the table. I'm still extremely pleased with the stand. Hope this helps, G.

      It is, and it is! Great question! That stop is to make sure you don't move the saw too far to the left and cause the stand to tip over. I hope that make sense. G.

    • @driedjello
      @driedjello 7 років тому

      Plus when you have the saw in the upright storage position, the weight of the saw can bear down on it. The saw mounts are pretty secure but just use friction. I believe this stop can add a second tier of support to keep gravity from drawing the saw down the bar.

    Yes, he could have shown how he installed the support beam (the big piece that actually is the most important part of the stand) but since he didn't, I'll tell you how I did it.
    1. I clamped the swinging arm so it wouldn't get damaged while I lifted the support beam.
    2. I inserted all the bolts and washers through the holes on the receiving beams (the ones that he said needed to face back when the stand was in the storage position).
    3. I used my foot to lift the support beam up to the top beam closest to the handle and guided the support beam holes over the bolts.
    4. Once I guided the support beam holes closest to the handle, I began to line up the bottom portion closest to the swinging arm and once I successfully guided all the bolts into the holes I unclamped the swinging arm and inserted it into the notch it is designed to be bolted to for temporary support in case gravity decided to pull down the support beam.
    5. I used needle nose pliers to place the nuts over the bolts and when they made contact, I used a socket wrench to SLIGHTLY tighten the bolts just enough to ensure that the bolts and nuts would stay attached.
    6. I very carefully lowered the stand into the "saw" position and made slight adjustments to the receiving beams (the small ones) so they were flush against the support beam.
    7. I finished tightening using an open-ended wrench and a socket wrench.
    Frankly, I'm disappointed that the entire strength of the most important part of the stand relies on 8 small bolts and nuts. My faith in the stand being able to hold my 12" miter saw is solely based on all the praise that I have read in reviews about the stand. I would think that Bosch would used sturdier bolts like they did for the pivot points. In spite of my slight frustration with Ghostses not showing this portion of the assembly, the rest of the video helped a lot considering the box had no instructions. Luckily I am mechanically inclined so I was able to easily follow along and figure out the most difficult part of the assembly. On a separate but related note, I ran out of grease so I ended up using FrogLube. For those that don't know what that is, it cleans, lubricates, and protects the things called guns. Maybe you've heard of them. ; )

      No, I couldn't show the work being preformed due to a lack of space to work and not being able to get a shot with the camera due to the lack of it. It's hard to tell in the video how little of it I really have/had to work with. I thought I did a pretty good job of describing the procedure as it was- not to mention the entire process. Your not the first to state they didn't get a manual- which is very strange to me. They need to correct this problem for sure. So for those that didn't, here's a link to the manual.

      A "slight frustration" with me not showing this portion is somewhat confusing to me as I did go over the procedure similarly to how I described the rest. Either way, I believe this is the only video outlining the assembly so I guess it's better than nothing. Perhaps someone else will do a better job in the future. Glad you benefited from the rest though and perhaps your notes will be of use to others.
      As for being concerned with the 8 small bolts not being strong enough to support a 12 inch saw- don't worry about it. Mine's ridden hundreds of miles in my trailer (folded up and strapped vertically to the wall) with my 12" bosh glide and all is good. The 6mm bolts used are more than likely class 8.8. They would have a min tensile strength of about 116k psi and a proof load of about 84k psi. That's for each bolt. I would be more concerned with the aluminum extrusion giving way well before the bolts ever would. What brand of 12 are you running? If other than bosh, did it mount easily?
      Never heard of FrogLube. I've always used Hoppe's solvent and oil. I my look into it so thanks for the tip.
      Get back with me in about 6mo. and let me know how the stand is working out for you. Take care, G.

      ghostses I apologize for my choice of words during my slight frustration. I truly appreciate the rest of the video because it was well done. Thank you for detailing the holding strength for the 6mm bolts. You are correct; they are 8.8 so my faith in the stand holding up my Dewalt 12" dual-bevel compound saw is no longer just reliant on previous reviews but on your knowledge of the bolts. THANK YOU. My friend recommended this stand since he has a previous version which has been heavily used for several years with no problems whatsoever.

      No apologies required man! I guessed 8.8 so thanks for the clarification. Yeah, you should have no problem with the Dewalt 12" staying put. The 12" Bosch glide is probably the heaviest of the 12" brands and I have no problems. If they designed it for their monster saws, it should be even better for anything lighter. I think your friends recommendation is spot on! Still feedback in 6mo. or so to let me know how its working out for you. It might help others out. Good luck, G.

    What is the height of gravity stand with this saw attached from the floor to the highest point of the saw ?

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  7 років тому +1

      That's a great question Aleksey and one I can't answer at this time. My saw is buried so I can't get it out, and my tape measures are under the house...lol. I would guess it's about 40" to the top of the table. Perhaps someone else will chime in and give the accurate number. Take care, G.

      ghostses thanks, I was just wondering if it will fit on the bed of my truck with tonneau cover being closed.

      I see. I thought you were asking about it when stood up for work- not collapsed and laid down. I was able to get some measurements without having to dig it out, but don't think it would work with the cover closed. They should be fairly close.
      Saw on stand with bevel set at 90: 36.5"
      Saw on stand with bevel set at 45: 35.5"
      Saw off stand with bevel set at 90: 25"
      Saw off stand with bevel set at 45: 24"
      Stand without saw: 28.5
      I was thinking if you loaded them separately it might work, but I don't think that's going to be the case. Either way, hope this helps, G.

    Not hard to assemble but the bolts that hold the rail support need to be tightened and I’m not sure how they expect you to get a wrench on the nut. Also as much engineering that had to go into designing this you’d think they would have had to sense to put flat spots on the leveling feet so you could use a wrench.

      Many of those stands are good. I used a Hitachi stand for many years. It was very solid with nice features. But if I had a nickel for every time I had to lift my left or right foot to catch a good piece of fall off that was just a little too short to reach either wing I'd be a millionaire!!!
      For anyone not earning a living making saw dust the Best Fence is overkill. However, if you do get one and use it on a jobsite you'll be in heaven.

      Yeah,,,lol. I know what you mean by catching shorter pieces.. But yes, if money were no object I'd probably have one even though it's not my bread and butter. Take care, G.
