    Thank you G for a great review. When I purchased my Bosch over a year ago, I found the same as you. It was dead on right out of the box. I also found as you did, the upper fence sits back slightly. I didn't measure measure that but has not been a problem. The Bosch is truly a jewel of a saw and should satisfy any wood worker looking for a top quality cut. I am astounded by the Freud blade. There is no excuse for a 12 inch blade not being 12 inches.

      Thanks James! I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for the feedback on your fences being set back as well. It lets me know it was designed that way for some reason. It's not a problem, like you mentioned, just something I observed. Man, I'm still taken back how well it was setup out of the box. Yours being the same way really blows my mind. They're on their game in that regard! A jewel it is for sure. I haven't used mine in about a week so I'm starting to go through withdrawals...lol.
      Yeah, I still have a bad taste in my mouth over the 12" 80 tooth blade. The way the Bosch saw is designed- they eek out every bit they can to increase the cut capability so it has to have a full 12" blade, or you have to mess with the factory settings. It might not be a problem for other saws, and the user may never even know, but it is for this one. Their 100 and 90 tooth blades are a full 12"- and I think a 60 of some sort. I did put on a 100 tooth and it's working fine. Take care, G.

    You can store the hold down clamp in the same hole just turn it 180º out of the way or put it in the hole on the other side. Works for me. Might have to remove it for 45º or more cuts? Good review. Thx. Ive had mine a several years now and love it. I finally replaced the blade and it cuts like butter now. Your blade is probably square. Use a bigger square and stay off the plastic. If you really want to split hairs on the 45º bevel cut two pieces and fit them together and check for 90º. If your making something like picture frames or something it can really be fine tuned that way. Great saw in my opinion and worth every penny!

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  4 роки тому

      Yeah, I do that now so I don't lose track of it. I would like a storage point so it's always out of the way until it's needed. Good tips! I'm with you there- it is a great saw and worth the cost. Take care, G.

    Simply stated, this is an outstanding review! I have had one for 5 years and it is as accurate today as it was when it was new. My fence setback was just over 5 tho, but ALL the settings were dead accurate out of the box. I did not have the flash issue on the bevel lock. I COMPLETELY agree with your comments about blade change procedure, I also remove the guard completely. The saw weighs 68 lb, so the gravity stand is a must. The only thing I would like to see is a micro adjust on a fence stop, but this is easily machined. I have used Makita, Dewalt, and Festool and except for dust collection, the Bosch is the ticket! I also added a blade laser but it really isn't necessary.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  8 років тому

      +Don Donaldson
      Thanks Don! Man, I was really taken back with how accurate the saw was setup- and still am. My flash issue may have been a one-off- who knows. It's not a big deal to remove the guard, but they should address it- or just amend the manual to just remove it. It does make it way easier to change the blade having it out of the way. I agree, if the saw will be moved around, the gravity stand is a must. I agree 100%- this saw is the ticket. Take care, G.

    curious to an update? this is a great review and thinking about getting one though in my mind, more parts = more opportunity for failure. How has that hinged system held up? I have a small space and don't want the protruding rails going out the back. Looking at either this saw or makita has one that the blade housing travels along the rails instead of rails going out the back. Thanks again for the review

    Well, here we are 5 years after this video posted. Yesterday, I was in a store looking at this exact saw which is still being manufactured, and I think I am as impressed today, as you were 5 years ago. I just found this video and your channel today while looking for reviews on this saw, so, I am a new viewer, and new subscriber. You mentioned the adjustable upper fence being .008 out of parallel with the fixed fence, which is thinner than a piece of US paper currency. I can't think of any woodworking needs where tolerances need to be that precise, so I won't even consider that to be a con with this saw. I think I had already made up my mind about buying one of these saws after the holidays, and watching your video just set my plans in stone. Looks like Santa will be visiting my workshop some time shortly after the StupidBowl.
    My only question for you would be How do you feel about the saw after owning it for 5 years??

    As others have said, outstanding review. Thank you! My big question that I can only find yes and not is the accuracy for full length cuts. Say you have a 16" piece of plywood set against a stop, cut as far as you can, flip it over, does the cut line up? My current kobalt is often like an 1/8 or more off.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  4 роки тому

    Well you pushed me over the edge since I've been looking at this saw for a well over a year now... Checked with several HD's and I suspect they may be eliminating these from the stores as several locations no longer display or stock them anymore.
    My local store had it on display last week and now it's gone but they did have two on an end cap (one in a box and the other a display model). So I snagged the boxed unit and just as you said it was reduced to $520. I next tried the HF strategy but was turned down. I did this a 2 other stores and both were out of stock.
    So I returned to my local store (luckily still available) and purchased the last new one at a 10% discount thanks to a kind manager. I tried to combine a $20 off coupon that was just emailed to me but they wouldn't go for it (only 1 discount/customer) so I choose the bigger 10% discount and felt satisfied getting it for $495 + tax.
    Problem is I have a perfectly fine Hitachi C12FDH that has served me well and works fine... now what? ;)

      LOL...that's cool! You might be right on HD phasing them out. They are great saws, but can imagine they are slow to move due to their cost. Or perhaps Bosh is coming out with something newer- who knows.
      The first store I went to did not have them marked down. I guess for me, it worked out even better since the second did and they let me use the HF coupon. It was worth a shot trying to use the HF coupon, but I agree- you still did good. Have you used it yet? If so, what do you think? If not, let me know when you do.

    What did you resolve on the not-quite-12" blade issue? I would also be PO'd if a 3rd-party 12" blade would not cut through, but I need quality of cut -- so does that mean I MUST get blades from Bosch to cut through? (!) Thanks for the excellent review. I had one of these a few years ago, and I had problems with it & returned the saw -- details as to why I returned it are lost in the mists of time. I presently use a Makita LS1016L saw that I am happy with. Please share any follow-up. Why do I care? Well, I'd like to be able to cut through a 4x4 (Read: 12" Blade) in one pass -- thinking about my upcoming Homestead.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  8 років тому

      +tkarlmann
      Yeah, I'm still a bit ticked over that one. Any true 12" blade will work just fine on the saw- regardless of manufacture. I did go with another Freud blade that is a full 12"- D12100X 100 tooth. Their 96 tooth is also 12", and I believe the 60 but can't can't confirm 100%. Perhaps Bosch corrected something since you had yours, who knows. I, of course, can't speak for all the them, but this once is great. Your Makita looks like a really fine machine. I understand why you're needing something larger. I got a great deal on some 5 5/8 crown molding that ended up costing me a larger saw and stand in the end....lol. Hope this helps! Good luck, G.

    Nice review!
    That glide system looks awesome, but do you think it will last?
    I've had the 10" version for 8 - 10 years and it's also a great saw. It doesn't have the glide system, just two tubes like most bevel saws, but it too is smooth as silk and shows no sign of wear. Of course it does stick out the back and that can be a nuisance occasionally.
    There is one thing about the 10" saw that I like better. The clamping mechanism locks with a lever so it's easy to snap and unsnap with a simple motion, and it's height is determined by friction when you lock it down. When you don't need it, it swings to the back out of the way.
    I've had no major issues with the saw, but you need to keep an eye on the two lower stops as I've had to re-square them a few times.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  9 років тому +1

      +Kate Cassandra
      Thanks Kate! That's a great question! The glide system is awesome and I do think it will last- no problem. The pivot points are all loaded with sealed bearings- probably the same type that would be used in a motor spinning thousands of RPM's. With what little they move when using the saw, I see no reason they won't outlast the tool overall.
      It sounds like your 10 has been serving you well- that's great! Yeah, the shafts sticking out the back can be a pain- especially if you're cramped for space. It has to be held out from the wall enough to allow for the full travel.
      The clamp on yours sounds superior to what this came with for sure. For what this saw costs, It would be nice to have a toggle clamp included like the one you have.
      If yours ever dies, which is unlikely, you might look into the glide. I think they also have a 10" version available if you don't require a 12". Put your hands on one, and you will want it....lol. Thanks and good luck, G.

      Thanks Dev! Agreed, it is an extreme joy to use. Knowing you use yours daily, and that it's holding up well, ensures this might be the last miter saw I ever buy! Thanks for the info on the blade. They are pricy, but they look to be a fine blade. I couldn't find one locally so I may have to go another route. I went to Woodcraft toady to look at the higher ended 12" Freud blades and they were all 11 3/4". I can see fudging to 11 15/16" or even 7/8"- but a full 1/4"- come on!
      Have you ever adjusted the down-feed stop on your saw to work with smaller blades? It doesn't look like there is much adjustment left so I don't know if there is enough to work with a 11 3/4" blade. Plus it's secured with red Loctite on mine so I don't know how friendly it would be to adjust. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    I have one of these saws 3 or 4 years years now , Its mounted on a bench in my workshop , I have a forest blade in it , the accuracy has always been hit and miss , its very easy to put a little side pressure while cutting and throw the cut off , wide cut are worse , If its locked so not to glide I can pull it a head almost a inch , Bosch offered to have me send it for repair but to have to send it halfway across the country would have cost me a couple of hundred dollars. I still use it for rough stuff , I have a 12 inch stationary Dewalt I use for accurate cuts. If it cut accurately all the time I would love the saw, I take great care of my tools and I'm fanatic about proper setup , Love the glide concept but I wouldn't buy another one.

      That's no good Darrell! Mines been riding about 300mi/week in my trailer strapped to the wall on a gravity rise stand and it's still dead on. 1" of play when the head is locked makes me thing there's something really wrong with yours. Mine has a little play when locked, but nowhere near what you have. I understand not wanting to send it off for what it would cost. Good to know your DeWalt is working great for you. The Bosch should be right there with it. It's unfortunate you're having problems with yours, and am surprised- based on the experience I've had with mine. I don't know if maybe they've changed something over the years to correct problems, but mine is as close to perfect as perfect can get. Good luck, G.

      Thanks Ken! An aux fence would take care of the problem for sure. I ended up going to HD and measuring all the 12" Diablo blades and found 2 or 3 different tooth counts that were a full 12. I went with the 100 tooth and it works great. Why the 80 is small is still beyond me.
      Yeah, this thing is a monster! The saw with stand combo is awesome for sure. Take care, G.

    To eliminate tear out, zero clearance inserts are needed on any saw. By adjusting the kerf inserts in toward the blade that will reduce the clearance normally needed to accommodate bevel cuts. That feature is not standard on most miter saws. I am looking to upgrade my miter saw and I have my eyes on this Bosch model.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  Рік тому +1

      True Randal, they are adjustable which is unique. It really is a great saw. I've made zero clearance inserts out of wood to use on this saw. One for 90 cuts, and others for miter cuts. I think I've made about eight and have only used a couple for specific compound beveled cuts. Either way, it is a nice saw and very versatile. Good luck, G.

    What a super addition to your shop and a great review as always. Just in time for trimming out the remodel. That was a surprise about the Diablo blade. Seems deceptive to me. A 7 1/2" blade is 7 1/2" not 8" and a 11 3/4" is 11 3/4" not 12". The electronic industry got in trouble for this behavior not so long ago. I expected better from Freud.

      Thanks David! It's a great saw hands down. The angle finder I'm using is called a universal bevel protractor. I got mine at Woodcraft but I don't believe they still carry them. Here's a link to one that looks to be just like mine.
      www.amazon.com/Universal-Protractor-Magnifier-Degree-Adjustment/dp/B00HG0NVQM
      The Freud blade has laser cut slots that act as silencers- as well as allow for expansion without warping due to heat. The blade that came with the saw had some slots, but not like the Freud. It not being coated could also add to the ringing- but not sure. I personally like the Freud blades due to their cost being fair- and they have a really good cut quality. If you pick up a saw, let me know what you think. Good luck, G.

      David, I need to add a note to the video about that problem. That blade
      went back and I was tipped off by another viewer that their Freud 100
      tooth blade was in fact 12". So that's the one I ended up with. Here's a
      link. I measured a couple more Freud blades while I was there and
      found others were 12" as well. I can't remember which ones, but believe I noted them in the comments somewhere. G.

      ghostses I went ahead and bought this saw. This saw is a beast.
      When it sits on my basic Delta miter stand saw I noticed due to weight there is movement forward and back of the whole saw itself as the arm comes forward. I know you have the T4B gravity stand, does it have that kind of forward and back movement on the stand? Thanks again for your great video.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  7 років тому

      That's cool David! Yeah, it's a beast for sure. I doubt Delta has any saws that weigh in like the Bosch, so they probably built them lighter. I would say no on any T4B movement. If you get the leveling feet adjusted so it has 4 points of contact- it stays put. It really is a great stand. Not trying to spend more of your money, but that's my opinion and I have nothing to gain from saying so. If you do pick one up, post your thoughts on that video. Take care, G.

    650 really isn't a bad price for a top tier professional saw. The DeWalt dws780 is the same price. The millwaukee M18 10 inch is the same price for way less saw. I just got the 10 inch Bosch this week. There are a few things I'm really disappointed in but overall they're things I can mod, add, or just get use to. The width of the handle on my model is ridiculous. You need magic Johnson size hands to operate it comfortably. And it has this super awkward lever on the bottom to release the trigger you have to slide over. Not ergonomic or intuitive the least bit. I'm also very disappointed in Bosch for not including some type of laser or shadow line in the saw. Wouldn't be an issue if the blade guard was completely clear but mine has a matte opaque finish right down the center where you would be able to sight down your blade. I plan to just disable that lever on the trigger and add a sewing machine light mod for a shadow line on mine. I'm also going to modify the dust collection by making a larger rubber shoot and straighten the neck for a mini cyclone dust collection system. But out of the other 3 saws I tried out before settling on this one I'm very pleased with the accuracy of the glide the most and overall that's what's most important in the end.

    Excellent review and demo! Somebody got the buy bug and had to get a miter saw - haha (I'm the same way). Congrats on the price (wow) and your choice on such a nice workhorse. BTW, the child helps carry the cord right?

      Thanks Mac! Yeah, the HF saw didn't work out so I figured I would go from one end of the spectrum to the other. I was floored with what I paid for it. LOL, yep- the child manages the cord! G.

    I just can't see that toggle system holding up with good metal slideways. The loading on those bearings has got to be immense.

    Greetings again! What a great and thorough review! I did find a pretty good fix for the saw dust issue. Check out Dan Pattinson’s UA-cam review on this saw. I realize by now you may already be aware of it. He makes a dust collection boot and I think he has the plans for it on his website. Just curious, what is the brand or model # for the adjustable angle finder you used to check squareness etc. Thanks my friend, Jim

      Thanks James! I had seen his video some time back. Looks pretty effective. I got the finder years ago at WoodCraft but don't believe they sell them anymore. Here's a link to one that looks to be the same. Hope it helps, G.

      Thanks Belford! I'm glad you liked it. I believe I misspoke in the video and called it a square. It's actually called a machinist protractor. I purchased it at Woodcraft years ago, but it appears they no longer carry them. Hope this helps! Good luck, G.

    Diablo makes a sliding saw blade now that's bigger dia. For sliders standard 12" diablo blades are for standard compound miter saws

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  4 роки тому

      Troy, I did return that blade and got a higher tooth count that was a full 12". Been using it ever since with no issues. Thanks for the info, G.

      I got a blade like that to a while ago before I realize they made two different 12 in blades now they just me the 12 in blades for the same saws slider and non sliders I had a blade last week brand new blade in for teeth went flying off

    I have the same saw. I am ok with the "pro" you mantion. About some draw back : Dust collection is close to 50% with a shop vac and the worst part is that the engeneer that works on changing the blade was probably drunk

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  7 років тому

      That's cool Raymond! I really like the saw. I use mine outdoors so the collection is not an issue for me. But if I ever do use it inside, I will be addressing it for sure. I agree about the engineer being drunk! They really should address the problem. I find it easier to just remove the guard completely when changing blades. Thanks for the post and good luck, G.

    • @raymondabel
      @raymondabel 7 років тому +1

      I know Dewalt is extremely popular so it must be some good stuff. I have a mixture of different brands, but only own/owned two Dewalt tools- a cordles drill and a rotozip. That being said, I'm really no help with the Dewalt brand. Take care, G.

    • @electric7487
      @electric7487 8 років тому

      OK, thanks. The one and only problem I've had is that this saw cannot cut 6.5-inch tall baseboards like advertised if you do a right miter. For tall base I use the DW716.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  8 років тому

      +Duncan Yang
      Hmm, that's interesting. I don't see installing anything that tall for anything I would do, but it should if advertised to do so. Thanks for the info, G.

    • @ghostses
      @ghostses  9 років тому +1

      +MRrwmac
      Heck yeah Mac! And it's not even Christmas yet...lol. Doesn't that mean I can get something else???...lol. The crown is exactly why I had to get a 12" saw. We only paid $60 for 160' of 4 5/8"crown, but my 10" saw couldn't cut it. So I guess the crown cost a lot more now....lol. G.
