If the narrative is justice for the displaced Arab muslims, how about justice for the 850000 Jews that were forcibly expelled from Arab countries? So this narrative that its the Israelis that never wanted another Arab muslim state is fiction. So apparently everyone agrees that a ceasefire is necessary to lead to an "enduring solution that respects the human rights, the civil rights, and the tino rangatiratanga of the Palestinian people". No doubt this is a bold and novel idea that Hamas will actively seize upon. Here's a minor problem: being a State involves duties and law, not just rule. The Hamas government has been in control of Gaza since 2006. The State is the duty bearer for human rights, on behalf of the people. The people enjoy those rights, not the state. However, when the state starts a war with a sovereign neighbour, an additional set of international law considerations - and realpolitik - come into play. Laws of armed conflict apply, but also the realpolitik that if you start a war, you're obviously up for any consequence. And you don't get to choose how it ends. We should stop talking about the conflict as if it's a terrible misunderstanding. It's not. The Hamas leadership knew exactly what they were provoking. They just thought they'd win.

That region which really was known as Judea was changed to Palestine by Roman Emperor Hadrian before even Islam came into existence.
