what you said here is why most optimized parties don't include pure melee party members. if there's a melee character they most likely are a gish with spell options. tanking is suboptimal as well. simply relying on controllers and ranged strikers with probably 1 support unit handles these kinds of encounters better.
@@TheRobversion1 As long as the party is mixed melee and ranged it should be good. Ideally I like traditional MMO makeups but as long as they have a mix of martial and magic any party can work.
@@ThisCrits I agree that the party should be a mix to cover mutiple bases though i dont agree that melee is needed. i think melee should come from summons, mounts (the elephants in the phb are my fave) and pets but the party itself should be ranged martials or casters. my own ideal party comp would be: 2 burst ranged strikers. 1-2 should be martial. examples are your typical sharpshooter fighter gloomstalkers, scorching ray/eldritch blast users, etc. their function is the dmg between the 2 of them when using up their resources should be capable of taking down or almost taking down a high priority threat on round 1. 1 controller and 1 support or 2 controllers. their function is to disable or to assist in disabling other threats on the field until the strikers can work on them. common themes across all party members should be: 1. everyone is capable of stealth and perception. no heavy armor (this is why i dont believe in tanks/melee strikers). the ability to generate surprise or at least advantage for the 1st attack on round 1 is powerful and should be attempted for every combat if possible. 2. good to high initiative for everyone. this means most enemies are either dead or disabled before they get to take their 1st turn. melee strikers/tanks would have to waste turns closing the distance before doing anything effective and will struggle if their target has mobility options like dimension door and ranged options like spells. at our table anyone who wants to play melee either has to have spells to increase mobility or mounts. 3. all important bases have to be covered multiple times. a couple of people have to have counterspell, dispel magic, some sort of healing like healing word/aid, revivify and lesser restoration or similar spells. 4. skill monkeying is divided across the group aside from stealth and perception so more bases are covered and everybody gets their own niche to shine during skill challenges/rp encounters. with the above alpha strike party setup, other archetypes aside from tank become suboptimal like dedicated healers (nothing to heal if enemies are usually dead or disabled), aoe blasters (i'd rather deal with threats than minions 1st. minions can be controlled by the controller instead) and the aforementioned skill monkey (who is ineffective in combat). summoners can be subbed in for either 1 of the strikers/controllers.
Love the content I’m finding on this channel! Please keep up the great work. From now on I’m with you till the end of the line.
You have no idea how much that means to us! Thank you so much for the support!
@@ThisCrits Hell Ya! See you live next time.✌️

Having a balanced party is more important than a lot of people realize lol
@@ThisCrits what would be your ideal 4 party combination in terms of functions?

So, if Vicious Mockery was a creature?
This is literally the best comparison and I am dissapointed in myself that I did not notice it hahah
