  • Shot on 8mm cine film by Don and Mary Downing in 1963, this home movie footage documents a holiday on the Norfolk Broads on the motor Cruiser Breydon Lass II which was hired from the Cobholm Boatyard at Great Yarmouth. There is some lovely footage of St. Olaves, Oulton Broad, Great Yarmouth seafront, Horning, Wroxham and Thurne.
The film was transferred to DVD by Will Downing who has kindly given me permission to share it on here.

I think this is great to see how things we once upon a time, from the days when people used actual suitcases, not things on wheels, when classic coahces were actuall moden yet there is something timeless about the Norfolk Broads. As magical then as now. PS notice the eltricity Pilons - they would have been new as part of the 'National Grid' and look close...no wires..so this was really when the nation was being connected via the grid.
