Best mechanic videos on UA-cam, bar none..
Thank you so much!
I always try to do my own work on my car and I love when I can find a video of you doing the same job. Keep up the great work!!
Super glad it helped. Blessings
Buddy thumbs up.... Ok Tim this was another example of THE CAR DOCTOR saving lives. 👍
+STEVE ROB Focing cars and saving lives...sounds like a great motto for the car doctor. Thanks for the thumbs.
Thanks SO much. This was so helpful and you took s lot of stress off knowing it's a common issue. You rock!
Doctor, you are an asset to the internets.
Hey Tim...good advice on checking the flex hoses for the brake system. As you've said, a lot of people may not even know about this until it's too late. Keep up the good work and have a good weekend!
+stuzman52 Thanks. Saving lives one helpful video at a time.
Thanks for the video. Changing the original hoses on an '04 Escape. They aren't visibly cracked but they are 20 years old, so I figure that is a good enough reason 😆
The hoses are not expensive either.
thanks to you I fixed my husband's car lol
Very nice!
😂
I have a quad that had one break, first video I found addressing the hose. thanks for the post
Last year I replaced a brake line on the mother in law's 95 ford Taurus. The leaking line went directly to the ABS pump. After replacing I could not get the air out of the system. Had a very small pedal and spongy. Someone posted that you had to go to a shop and use a tool to activate the ABS pump, well someone counter posted to that and said if you have any kind of pedal then drive the car on a dirt or gravel road and hit the brakes hard to activate ABS. Well that's what finally worked for me, I was able to get the air out and get a good pedal.
+MostlymoparIH I thought I should have mentioned that after I posted the vid. Yes I almost always activate the ABS on gravel after bleeding the system. You can also do that then bleed again as any trapped air will pass into the calipers and be easy to bleed after. Thanks for the feedback. Take it easy.
Yeah it took me multiple trips to the dirt road to get all the air out. Thanks again.
Thank you for posting this helpful video!!! Just subscribed!!!!!
The problem seems to be on the earlier Escapes and Mazda Tributes with the smooth covering on the hoses. The replacements have a ribbed covering and last for much longer. Great video Tim.
+wysetech2000 oh thanks, and thanks for the feedback. Yes these had the smooth hoses and the replacements were ribbed. I'll have to pay closer attention in the future but I'll take your word for it. Total garbage but it's a nice job to do none the less.
Hi Tim, As always a good video. Thanks. That's a cool light you have there.
+Thomas Tommy The light broke today. Going to be ordering a new one off amazon. Pretty handy unit. Take care.
My mazda tributes front brake hose cracked in the exact same spots. This guy is awesome.
Very will done good audio and video and answer the question I had about this minor brake job. Seems pretty straight forward
just had a line bust a few hours ago this video is gold
glad it helped. Blessings!
Thanks for the video definitely helped me get my 2011 escape done !!
Thank you for this video!!!. Learned some good stuff and saved money.
Another good vid. Tim and a good job keeping the tourist in Alaska safe ! 😋
+N Smith people are going to swarm here just knowing their car won't rust in half here. Maybe I'll sell tours of the car Doctor studios and rake in the big bucks. Thanks for the complements!
+The Car Doctor One day before I get to old Alaska is one place I am want to visit !!
Ugh your in Alaska, I was going to call you and make an appointment😂 I'm in Florida
Thank you very much for making this video. Saved me a lot of $$$
Mine BROKE YESTERDAY..FAR FROM HOME..E BRAKE IS SO IMPORTANT..SAVED ME THANK GOD
You right Doctor ford escape are a pain on the neck I love you channel always good Information
Thank you! This fixed my truck!!!
Please keep them coming! Nice tips!
+Rick Anderson Will do. As long as cars keep breaking I'll keep the camera rolling! Thanks for your support.
Thanks, mine just broke today a scape 2006. lucky me I was leaving my house parking yard before driving on a high-speed road.
Just what I needed thanks a bunch
Nice job! I just replaced the front lower control arms and I found cracked hoses. UA-cam search lead me right to you!!
Excellent. Glad you discovered them while you were there and able to take care of them before they blew out.
Absolutely! It stinks having it sit in the driveway waiting for hoses. I read too many horror stories on the failures. Thanks again!
You got a thumbs up for the moose comment.
Awesome once again, don't listen to those thumbs down !
Thanks for sharing. Keep it up...
THANK YOU!! Dead on what I needed!
Great video.
Great video, thanks.
Great video!
So I just found both your channels and enjoy them both. Is there some kind of spray/oil/lube or whatever I can coat the brake hoses with to keep them protected ? I keep my cars forever so that might be easier than replacing. In advance, thanks a bunch !
In this case the replacement hoses will last forever. Just junk OE hoses. Not aware of any coatings but might be worth doing some research. Blessings.
Excellent video Tim and really wise words to to live by. Really like your videos. You got a new faithful viewer. Btw, was those tube wrenches the old snap on crossbeam's? Man, I haven't seen them in a while but then I ain't been looking for them either. I gave my son my full set of Imperial Flex-Head flare wrenches in a pouch a few years ago. Doubt he's even used them at all. He probably thinks they are junk cause they ain't shinny new or some chit.
+Hawaiian F150 Yes that's an old SnapOn line wrench that's actually a military issue I was told. I was just thinking I should upgrade my line wrenches the next time the snappy truck stops by. I gave one of my boys a set of SnapOn screw drivers (best in the world) and he probably don't know where they are.
+The Car Doctor -- Tim if you do upgrade would you consider selling your set to me? right now I'm using ace hardware wrenches. they're OK but the fit ain't the greatest. and who don't want a snap on set to brag about ;) if ya sell them please consider that even cuz I live over here I ain't rich by no means haha. ask big guy Steve .. that guys been after me to buy a camera so we can swap video lies.. lol .. personally I think ole big guy Steve rob just wants to see my legs in a grass hula skirt. not to mention a my set of coconut cups. haha... I dunno, me thinks that it snows too much of the year in canada. Seriously though I would surely pay ya a fair price and I promise to use them and take good care of them. also I'll nvr forget where and from who I got them from. I'm old school about those things. hehe gotta be ole school if'n I'm over 60 ;)
+The Car Doctor - I like old tools .. hmm I should say all tools. I got a set of snap on cross beams double box that goes from 3/8 to 1-1/8 XV-1214-S to XV-3436. think they were made in 59 not sure, they got a top flat lined looking J kinda like a 9 on one side.
I gave my son a set of 1948 Craftsman 1/2" drive ratchet and sockets. dunno if he really understands or cares what we went through back then or what life was like then. I kinda think he isn't buying tools cuz he thinks he's gonna get mine. he wants my truck too. I ain't dead yet.
Haha. You can pry them out of my cold dead hands.
+The Car Doctor haha the only real tool man's reply. thumbs up =-b
Thank you Tim. I hope I did not jenks your light by asking about it. I will order this first thing , Thanks my friend.
+Thomas Tommy No haha. I have two and they are getting old. Surprised I haven't left them stuck to the underside of a car yet.
I am happy I didn't jenks you. Tim you are a good person. Maybe someday I will get up your way. Or maybe you will get down my way. Thanks again my friend.
Hi Doc, I was gonna say steel braided lines, But I have never had a Ford that would last long enough to warrant it. About how long do those factory hoses last? Good Video, Thanks
+joel mccoin Someone stated that the older Escapes that have the smooth hoses are the problematic ones. Seems like they begin failing after ten years. Apparently they switched to a ribbed hose that holds up much longer. I had a newer Escape in today that had ribbed hoses and they looked fine. Thanks for tuning in. Always good to see you.
Exelent video ,good tips. What kind of flash light did you use it for this job.
Thanks a lot.
+juvenal alvarez it's a Blue Point rechargeable LED light. I got it off the SnapOn truck. I found a similar light I'm going to try out on Amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019DTMXIU/ref=mp_s_a_1_44?qid=1461385549&sr=8-44&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=magnetic+rechargeable+led+light&dpPl=1&dpID=51yXePYonKL&ref=plSrch
I like your plug for the tourist industry. I feel badly for those guys in the rust belt too. What a mess they have to deal with. Have you used stainless steel replacements lines? I see a lot of aftermarket companies pushing them and was just wondering if they had any advantages. Thanks for the tips on bleeding an ABS system. I often wondered about that.
+wyattoneable I'd like to know what you think about those kinds of replacement brake lines. And for owners of the Escapes that are having this issue and Ford isn't helping any - What can they do in the mean time? Is there a different length or design or type of brake hose you might "unofficially and without liability" suggest? Obviously Ford needs to be pressured on this and the best way is to do that is to document these problems with NHTSA. Anyone can report a problem with any vehicle at any time for free with NHTSA located here: www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/ -- or do a search for complaints on NHTSA about a specific complaint - such as brakes --- go here: www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues and type in the start years and end years of applicable vehicles to search for and then select the Make and Model to search for and then click on go. In this case "Brakes" - I found 5 reports of Failed Brakes Complaints Reported to NHTSA. Of those five reports relating to the word "Brakes", four of the five were for brake hose failures". Hope this helps someone.
+Hawaiian F150 Wow, good info. I have seen this exact issue dozens of times on these vehicles. Junk. I think the aftermarket hoses hold up better because I have never had one come back. I don't know anything about stainless lines. I use those coated lines that bend really easy but again I rarely have to replace a brake line and when I do it's generally not a good day!
+The Car Doctor. I can't come close to knowing much but I'd think if it was such a big deal, having stainless hoses that is, then they would be on there from the factory. I can see using them on race or the like applicatiions were you need the zero hose deflection that you get with stainless. rubber hoses swell up under increased pressure. that's lost hydraulic force until you press harder.
in a nutshell -- to stainless hoses are good lookers bit perhaps what's best is remember the KISS montra... and to simply drive safely.
I ain't never seen one street with NASCAR Officials lined up along the roadway.
+Hawaiian F150 Oh i didn't know you guys were talking braided stainless lines. That might be a good fix for these. Even if they just had a little longer hose that didn't have such a sharp bend in it. But yes, safety first. And a regular inspection to keep it safe.
I have a 2001 Escape & the brake lines on both fronts are cracked. The abs light is constantly on, off when I go for ride but it reappears. There's spongy play with a hardness that tends to kickback with sounds of metal grinding a little when stepping on brake. Checked brakes, but all seems find! Whenever I start to take off or come across a bump or what not I hear like something is loose. Check but could never find anything. Have you came across this type of problem with these Escapes?
God bless you! Thank you
Thank you, I am blessed!
Yes and its a FORD ESCAPE..2005 ...READY TO GO WRENCH NOW .IT'S 30 DEGREES OUT AND FICKIN WINDY
I have a mazda tribute and i notice a crack on one of the front hose I drove it for a year until one night it broke on me i was able to pull over and used the emergency brake to stop so I always keep an eye for these hoses , found another crack at the rear change it immediately. so theres a problem with these hoses keep checking on them .
I have a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid, if I'm going to bleed my brakes do i HAVE to use a machine? Can I just bleed them like any other car?
I have a 2010 escape. When it’s hot out after driving 20 mins or so my front driver side brake wants to hang up. I can stop at a light and let my foot off the brake and it takes a few seconds to release. And as it releases it comes off the disc causing the car to groan coming from the front driver side.
Hopefully it’s a bad caliper.
Mister I have a question. I would like to know how to replace brake master cylinder fot mazda tribute 2001. Do you have any video?
No. Sorry
My brake line bolt is nicely rounded and rusted and is not coming off. They need to stop salting the roads here in nova scotia because working on cars is a headache every fucking time.
im talking about the rear brake hose lines...
Wait, Alaska doesn't use road salt? I know they get snow so what do they treat the roads with!? I would love to live in Alaska but a lot of companies don't ship there and if they do it's expensive. And I don't have a passport to be able to drive through Canada as I would want to take the scenic route. Quick and easy repair nonetheless.
+Jon Rushing They just use plow trucks to remove the snow and when there is ice they put down sand. Also, most folks switch to studded or studdless snow tires. The additional cost we pay is in road maintence and tires instead of the cost of rust on cars. The studs wear out the road and create ruts so we have to re-pave roads regularly. We used to pay for all this with revenue from oil taxes. Now oil is drying up and the price per barrel has plummeted so we are in deep crap. We are going to have to pay some taxes to fund state operations. We have never had a state tax. For years we have all got a annual check form a fund started from those oil revenues but that too will likely go away to help fund government. Still a great place to live and yes driving the Alcan Hwy is a great trip I never get tired of.
The Car Doctor Oh good to Alaska for not using salt. I didn't think studs would ruin asphalt. At least you get new pavement every few years. I used to live in Pennsylvania and PennDOT would just put a 1/4" layer down of tar and call it good instead of ripping it up and redoing it the right way. I didn't know Alaska had no sales tax either. Sorry to hear the wells are drying up. Alaska is going to have to start exporting moose meat to the lower 48 for revenue! :)
+Jon Rushing haha we have way too many moose here in town. We should turn them into sausage and ship them south
i have had 2 times where i racked a escape and put it back on the ground and when i went to back it out a hose popped, junk parts
+UBBERTANKER Seems like an issue that should be covered under a safety recall. These are the worst hoses I have ever seen. I've learned to look close at the hoses whenever these rigs come I the shop. Maybe this vid will raise some eyebrows and get the ball rolling on a recall or a reimbursement.
Can you send me the link to order that light. I'd be greatful, Thank you
+Thomas Tommy The light you saw in the video is made by blue point and probably only available on the SnapOn truck. I am going to order this light off amazon and give it a try. It looks like it might work. www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B019DTMXIU/ref=mp_s_a_1_44?qid=1461385549&sr=8-44&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=magnetic+rechargeable+led+light&dpPl=1&dpID=51yXePYonKL&ref=plSrch
the driver side brake hose is a little bit longer than the passenger side brake hose...
No rust . yes i jealous
+wtbm123 Yes but at least you get more snow than us.
Is Ford using Play Doh for the outer layer of those brake hoses? There needs to be an annual safety inspection where you are, may save many lives. Lots of moose and other large animals on the roads.......................
+ICU2 You're probably right. Not mandatory inspections and so many unsafe cars. We also have some of the most dangerous roads in the world. All makes for a recipe for disaster!
2:35 😂🤣😂
That's the scare tactic I use when we need to sell a job! hehe
Wow, that ain't good...
+risc19 it's all better now. Another happy customer who will live to see another day!
