  • Greetings viewers! In this video we look into the cause and cure for a Jeep Wrangler 3.6L oil leak. The customer complained of oil leakage from around the oil pan and bell housing area. We quickly located the cause and undertook repairs. Watch this video for more information on this common Jeep product fault effecting year models 2012-2018 and other production years and models equipped with Jeep/Chrysler Pentastar 3.6L engines. The oil filter adaptor is a common source of oil leakage, and we take a close look to identify the source.

I have done several of these. Wranglers are a bit easier because you don't have to remove the cowl. I always use the Mopar part because the labor is extensive and I don't trust Dorman or any of the aftermarket choices(Mopar obviously has a problem too). Everyone I have done the part came complete with new sensors. It looks like Mopar has cut corners now. Good to know because the next one I get I will add sensors to the job. Shame on Chrysler for not extending the warranty on this issue. My compliments to you Tim on another excellent video!

Great job as usual and great explanation of misdiagnosis. I can't tell you how many customers have had oil pans, rear main oil seals replaced for valve cover, intake manifold, oil pressure transmitters, oil filter adapters, etc. leaks. Always start at the top unless it's obviously coming elsewhere. Nice job Tim!!

I love your videos. You have great attention to detail and thank you for actually using a torque wrench. It annoys me watching other mechanic videos and they skip that. Keep up the great work. I live in Anchorage and would definitely use you for any work I need.

They like to warp as well. The Dorman replacement is made out of aluminum.I have replaced one 3.6 Chrysler because the oil filter cooler housing was leaking and being ignored to be fixed

I think my 5.0L Chevy V8 has a similar issue with the oil pressure switch at the rear of the intake manifold. I haven't pulled the dog house yet as I live in a condo and it would be a PITA. So, I poured some AT205 into the oil as a hail Mary move. Shazam, no more oil leak!
I know, I'm probably just putting off the inevitable, but for now, I call it fixed!

What a terrible design.. Should be made of aluminum there would probably be much lower failure rates.

I have a 2009 mercedes clk350 and it has an oil leak that comes from something just to the right of the battery. This car has a battery in the far left back corner under the hood. I can't afford to take it to a shop and nobody who looks at it knows what they're talking about. Im looking for any advice what you might think it could be leaking.
P.s. there's also gasoline being leaked into the oil somehow. When i check my oil level, it appears thin and smells of gas. Ideas?

Tip for cleaning gasket grooves. Use a new toothbrush with the brake cleaner
