      Frederick Funk Brian in my opinion has the best how tos on you tube proper preparation is so important my cousin who is 62 and is old school and has done years and years of brakes and also painted cars for a living was impressed how detail oriented Brian is I followed this video yesterday while doing my son's brakes all four wheels on 2002 escape at my cousin's house he has all the power tools Jack's jackstands and he supervised me doing it the only problem we had was the front left disc was seized to hub so bad we had to break it in parts with chisel to remove previous owner probably never had them installed correctly with anti seize

    If it wasn't for this video, I would not have known the caliper bolts required a hex key. And how to put back the stress clips at the end. Thanks so much for taking the time to create such a clear and good video and providing great instructions.

    As far as I’m concerned and this is only my opinion, you are one of the coolest mechanics I’ve ever watched. I have a 2010 Ford Escape XLT with the 2.5 liter engine. I have learned how to do so many things by watching your videos and saved thousands of dollars in repair costs by doing things myself. This morning, I watched your video on doing the rear brake drums/brakes as well as the front brakes video you put out. I’m not ashamed to admit that I have actually learned something and now have the confidence to perform break jobs on my escape. Thank you so much for putting out such quality videos that are descriptive and informative. Don in California.

    Thank you!!! Straight forward and the channel lock trick worked very well. My 2012 Escape’s rotor were stuck and hammering didn’t work so I used both caliper bracket mounting holes with two shoulder bolts, nuts and washers with 3/4 inch heads to jack them off from the back side. Just went back and forth between the two since the car was in park and I couldn’t spin the front rotors. Both rotors separated in less than a minute once I started ratcheting. The sound of that rust seal breaking was awesome.

    Good video. I would agree with the previous comment by John Castor. It is advised to crack the bleeder screw on the caliper when compressing the piston into the bore for two reasons. First, it helps remove some of the nasty old overheated brake fluid from the caliper, and second, it keeps that nasty overheated fluid from being forced back through the lines and hoses into the master cylinder. By doing this you introduce cleaner fluid into the caliper, and new fluid is added to the master cylinder to top it off if necessary.

    • @donjohnson3701
      @donjohnson3701 Рік тому

      Thanks for the tip, I read that with ABS systems the “bad” brake fluid can be pushed back into the ABS and screwing it up. I use the woodworking clamp to compress the piston also, it is lighter and easier to work with than a heavy c-clamp.

    Well folks just thought I would get back on here and reply to how great this video that Brian shared with us helped me with the complete all four wheel brake job on my son's 2002 escape yesterday I by no means am a mechanic but can do small things like oil changes and stuff I did the brake job along with my cousin who is mechanically inclined but has limited feeling in one of his hands due to a surgery he even had all the tools jackstands jack and air compressor and impact this video for the fronts is spot on for removal of calipers,gravity bleeding the calipers and even a little pb plaster and heat around bleeders THE ONLY PROBLEM we had was the front left disc was seized to the hub so bad we had to break it off with a chisel in pieces to get off the previous owner or whomever did brakes probably never took the time to apply never seize as Brian shows in this video we followed all these steps the the slide pins caliper bolts came out easy with the 7mm hex socket and the 18mm bolts that hold caliper brackets came off after a little heat was used we did the rears as well and they were a breeze but a pain in the butt because of being rotors and shoes and having to hold all the springs and stuff when reassembling BUT DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND FOLLOW THIS VIDEO ITS THE MOST ACCURATE ONE ON YOU TUBE TO HELP YOU WITH TACKLING A FRONT BRAKE JOB BRIAN'S STEP BY STEP GAVE ME THE CONFIDENCE TO DO IT, THANKS BRIAN!!

    those ceramic pads are kick ass...I've installed a blue million of em at Midas and Firestone chevy and Lincoln merc. One thing I've seen is new rotors and a base antisieze can make the rotor pop as it takes up slack space on the studs and the aluminum compound smokes a hell of a lot. I switched to bronze antisieze and became the no comeback kid in Indy

    Your video is perfect and covers my 2017 Ford Bronco. Here in Canada, apparently there are two brake rotor sizes available for my model year,. My Escape SE with 2.0 turbo engine, has the 'factory tow package. I don't know if that makes a difference or not, but my Escape takes the larger diameter front rotor with those 'flat' steel spring retainers for the pads as you've shown here.
    Regardless, your video was 'the tool' I used to help me through the job. Thank you.

    Thanks very much for posting this great step by step. I've done brakes before but I like watching a tutorial if I can find one. Finding out about the 9 mm hex for the floating bolts was great. The manual I have doesn't mention the size so this helped me out.

    dude thank you. this video guided me spot-on to fixing my daughter's car. i replayed it' at least 2 dozen times to get me through the process. thank you Sir! [note: there are 2 types (an A & a B) of brake-pads at AutoZone for my 2008 ford escape. the clips on the back that go into the caliper are different sizes. mine took the bigger a type]

    Nice thorough brake job. I have an '05 myself! The only thing i'd add is bleed some fresh fluid into those lines/calipers. I'd love to see some more vids on this vehicle, especially a PCV replacement on the 2.3L Duratec, which I'll be doing before long! Subscribed!

    Just finished this job on our 2012. Thanks for the info! One other important note, at least for that year, is you need to find out whether you have steel or phenolic pistons. The inner pads for the models with steel pistons use a much larger retainer clip.

      Is there a way to tell which pistons you have without taking everything apart? It would be nice to buy everything beforehand.

    I am a big fan and appreciate your videos. I just did a 2005 break job on a 4x4 escape 6cyl and it was a 9mil for the slide bolts. Just wanted to pass it along.
