Damn! Bill! Isn't that just how it goes sometimes? Skating can be so humbling in that way when you clearly have the skill and the confidence to do something and a little mistake pops up and bites you. I started to get gun-shy of rolling stairs with 3 wheel set-ups after I got tripped up a few times. Lino says it's because of the bigger gap between the wheels so that is now stuck in my head. I know the bigger wheels in a 3 wheel set-up can help roll over obstacles and obviously you were killing it on the first 4 attempts. I guess speed is the key when the stairs are not too steep but I'm going to stick to 4 wheels for stair rolls. I don't know that I'd ever attempt those 5 sets even if I was in full hockey gear with a face cage! But I look forward to seeing you conquer those!

Thanks Shawn, yes I usually don't push my stair limits on 3's. I was going to mention in this vid that I forgot which skates I was wearing and was like 'holy fuck, I did that in those!? when I got home. (It sounded too humble-braggy though) The 110's on the GTO don't feel much different than my 90/90/84/84 setup.
It would help to remember what I'm wearing when I skate, as there are differences, like sliding out when too inverted or turfing it on slower stair rolls...

Awesome video Bill! I’m not ready to go anywhere near stairs so I’ll have to settle with living vicariously through you instead lol.
6:03 I think that guy honked because he was afraid you were about to cross the street; he brakes right when you hop onto the road (unless he said something or gestured :)you, I can’t tell). Not criticizing you because you have no way of knowing that going on behind you obviously.

I wear a helmet and wrist guards every single session now, even if I'm just skating up and down the seafront.
I'm at the age to not care how I look, and being padded up gives me the confidence to try new things without turning myself in to a potato. I can deal with knee and elbow scrapes but I got weak wrists and my kids need my brain to work for a few more years before they can look after me lol.
*Not suggesting that Bill should pad up all the time, for myself there is no downside to doing so.

@@ingenious4t right, I got some ennui city wrist guards and I think they look so cool. I cringe when I don't see people wearing at least a helmet and they're skating alongside cars, hopping off curbs etc. I'm still waiting for my S1 retro helmet (color lagoon) to come in. I'm so excited. They're both gorgeous protective gear pieces imo. I have yet to find the right knee pads though. I got the Ennui park knee gaskets and they're huge. Hi Bill,
Just want to mention that I admire your courage!
Bravery is not necessary being strong, but to have the courage and openness to show oneself just the way one is, no over exaggerations nor the opposite of it.
As you showed and shared with us your fall at the steps, but especially the little missstep at 4:13 and that you share at 6:03 that you not always a joyful and that you have your moments, as you say. You could have cut them out, but you didn't. I like that!
I think in society there are a lot of people who fear showing themselves fully. But that is not necessarily helpful for their well-being and a community as a whole. When need such brave examples to show others that it is ok to fall sometimes, it's part of life basically, and that also more difficult emotions are part of our experience, that's just pretty normal and we are ok with having them, no need for shame here, we are good enough.
I think if everyone would act like that, we would have a much healthier society - so thank you for your courage, Bill!

I love that it's so free there. We don't have that many spaces like this here (smaller country so no surprises there) and due to the congestion we'd be thrown out for trying stuff like that in the spaces we have.

I live in a state where skating on road ways is prohibited. With which I strongly disagree with and show the oppressive laws middle finger just like Bill showed one to a driver that has road rage issues. I am not skating on sidewalks doing 20mph. Why do cyclists have more rights than us? You should take your chance and skate in the spaces you have. Getting thrown out won't hurt you. Stand up for yourself against the opressive "rules".

    • @kiriappeee
      @kiriappeee 4 роки тому

Great effort and balls of steel! I have been doing a lot of crazy stuff throughout my Life.....racing dort bikes, racing alpine downhill single trails on my mtb and fast city skating with my converted Bauer Supreme TotalOne's. I had been and always will be wearing protective gear.....simply because you have to allow for other people mistakes. It has happens to me pretty often.. Upcoming traffic on a one way high speed downhill single trail, dirtbike pilots who drove faster than their skill level alowed them.... Last year around june I trained for a uphill mtb race in the Austria. After 120 km on the bike and 3 km from home I was stopped by a old woman who rode her bike on the wrong side of the narrow track, and to make it worst in a curve. All I could do to avoid a headon collision was to use my breaks. I run 4 piston downhill calipers on my mtb. I turned into Superman and went over the bar. I stopped the flight with my face on the ground. Unfortunatley the bones of my lower Arms were to weak to prevent my face from hitting the ground. I was taken to the Hospital with a broken face a multiple fractures on my Arms. As I mentioned before.... sometines it does not matter how good you are when some idiots can ruin your day. Wear at least a helmet when you out there, it might save you Life.

    Hi Bill,
sorry for the accident *but all in all a GREAT video!!!*
    I liked:
    - the sceneries
    - the looong straight paths in high speed
    - the vibrant colors
    - your sense in view for details (like: no mask, no entry and then the pointing to your face, very cool!)
About the skates: many skaters prefer small wheels (4x 80 mm) with the shortest frame possible for stairs, because you have the smallest gaps between.
I think you can manage all the way down with other skates and protection. How about contacting Ricardo Lino and Tiago for some tips before? Both have experiences with stairs.
Good luck! When you stay low you'll succeed!

They're much thinner than pads (leave them in the bottom of your skate bag) and can get you out of having to disinfect. I bought mine on sale from a sporting chain in America called DICKS after the school sports season ended for roughly ten USD. is it just me or does the body automatically switch to drag and power slide instead of parallel slide, i can't do a parallel slide when i'm tired.

Should’ve rolled the ledge all the way down. Also, three wheels seem sketchy for stair bashing. Go back with 4.

I was going to say holy crap you are so brave for running around with your insta 360 naked but at the last stair bash we could see the lens guard go flying off..... how the heck did you get the lens guards so clean? I totally thought they were not there except for the aggressive stitching. please tell me your secrets guru

I feel my lens covers are never clean enough even though I wipe them down throughout every session like I'm seriously OCD. It's nice to know it's not super distracting. Thanks RD!

@@BillStoppard looking at the vid again I noticed that the stairs were relatively shaded which must have been the difference I saw. I've been having issues with keeping the lens covers clean as well. I purchased some completely new covers and they still had that smudgey grimey look to it. I have a dive case coming in from aliexpress (horizontal case not the vertical case they had before) I'm hoping that will be easier to keep smudge free.

A Fourskate probably wouldn't have let you down on the stairs.
You just wanted too much from a Trisakate.

Broke my left radial fore arm bone over the summer and still dealing with the side effects because I falling on my blades you bet your ass I’ll be buying pads and a helmet next year we get to caught up in feeling free while I’m a session that we forget one slip or mistake and hurt you very badly you’re lucky you didn’t need staples I. your head or something bro or even fractured your elbow or forearm

B, you got some beautiful rails on those stairs. Next time get out the Aeon 80’s and go for a rail ride.
