Thank you! It doesn't have to be an Intermountain 5277 to be done. Any boxcar the the doors are a separate piece it is possible to do this process to. The PWRS PS-5077 boxcars as well as the new Rapido PC&F 5258 boxcars also have separate doors as well. Should you find a car to do this to and have any questions during the process feel free to ask and ill do my best to answer/help with the project.

I use an A-Proxo knife with a razor saw to cut out plastic. I never use an X-Acto knife since nothing on this earth is exact, only approximate. Why not just purchase rolling stock with opening doors? Almost all of my rolling stock is from the 70's & 80's until my most recent purchases. I model from the turn of the century up to the 1950's, so most of my rolling stock have roof walks and most are below 100 ton cars. Since I used to live in Jonesboro, GA, I model the Central of Georgia Railway Company which was purchased by Southern Railways in 1962. My most modern engine is a GP-38-2. I mostly run steam with very early diesels. Cheers from eastern TN
I suppose the reason I choose to modify cars as opposed to buying cars with already open doors is that I enjoy taking a factory model and being able to modify it into something of my own. Also, the only Seaboard Central cars that have been made are these boxcars thus I can't buy a version with opening doors from another manufacturer at this time. The open doors are more for looks and for something different to spot in trains than for operation purposes as well.
@user-lq4mo8dw1p A big part of the hobby that alot of modelers miss out on anymore is the kitbash/modifying of rolling stock. Hopefully doing more and more of these somewhat simple kitbash videos will help to get others to try it out for themselves.
@@ConrailSteve yes sir, I actually gave up on model trains when horizon made athearn and MDC ready to roll....I made a trip to Brasil to visit a cousin that worked for a railway down there and I was sold....back to kitbashing locomotives and cars....
I think for some cars it would increase the cost too much to be able to have working doors is my guess. It would be nice if more cars did have working doors from the factory but it also does make for a fun modeling project as well.

Why not just buy cars with open doors? Because this hobby still needs some craftsmen .....

Why don’t they make ho scale box cars with sliding doors.
