I don't know how long you've been on UA-cam, but you deserve to have more followers. I like the way you critique the manufacturer, either positive or negative, which really helps others who are viewing. And you're not hesitant about criticizing your own mistakes if it's deserving. On top of all that, you do excellent work, especially your weathering !! Keep them coming !!
Thanks for the comments. There might be two reasons I don't have more followers. 1. I don't monetize my channel and the theory is that YT doesn't promote it as heavily since they don't make money. 2. I never tell people to like, subscribe, etc, so maybe they just don't. Occasionally, I video will get a bunch of views, but I never know why.
I enjoy your videos and I think what you do here is it extremely unique. I especially enjoyed the background reveal and history of the different companies that built these craftsman kits. Very fascinating to me. I have always been intimidated by craftsman kits. At the level that you're doing them at.
Thanks. when I started the channel, I had no idea what I was going to do with it. I sort of fell into this but I find the histories fascinating as well. I would like to do a kit from every manufacturer, but there are so many!
so excited to see a new video. I had just glanced at your channel a few days ago, hoping I had just missed something. I pondered getting this kit but decided to pass on it. I liked the other buildings that came with the options, I wish they were offered separately. I have a lot of their kits and although I like them a lot, they just look like they belong in the 1800's to me. I wish they would do some brick structures but I know laser cutting brick would most likely add to the price of the kits which is probably why its not very common. The way they do rafter tails and stair stringers are brilliant. Your weathered wood technique is still the standard in my eyes, just perfect colors and tone. Thanks for sharing. Cheers Rob
When I use rust on my models, I actually use real rust. I take some 4-0 fine steel wool and put it in a quart jar and add some vinegar and water about 2:1. When I get a jar full of rust I pour the mixture into a large stainless steel pan (from my darkroom used to develop & fix photos) and wait for it to dry (usually about 3 to 4 weeks). Then I use a single edge razor blade and make sure the mixture is completely powdered. Pour the rust into a small container to keep. When ready to use, I usually dilute it with 1:1 distilled water & 90% isopropyl alcohol with a drop of glycerin and paint it on my model. Looks quite real, 'cause it's real rust. You can use the powdered rust like chalks or pigments too. Cheers & 73 from W Rusty Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee
Another great video, mate. Perhaps some tar paper strip to cover the slot and give the area a repaired look? Would love to see the other buildings done. Cheers.
Thanks for checking in. I am not dead yet! Unfortunately, I probably won't get any videos up until winter at the earliest. Besides the summer fun, I started a new job and I am back in an office full time so I can't work on the train when I should be working for real. You're not missing anything. I have not done any builds since the last video.
With the shortage of shingles do you need to start from the top of the building that has the wall covered or is the whole wall covered. Does the instructions mention anything about not covering the whole wall. I am asking tbese questions because I have the saame kit. It seems ashame that the price you have to pay and being laser all the parts should fit.
Thanks for the comments. The entire wall is covered. I didn't bother contacting Bar Mills because I suspected that the entire wall would be covered and I knew I would have the two buildings together. I think there are just two many problems getting small enough tolerances for a kit this complicated, so really I don't blame bar mills. They aren't Tamiya and I don't expect them to be. You should do a video of the other three buildings so I don't have to!
@@asdasx392 I am not that good of a modeler.. Did have another question- On the one building you did it nlooked like stuco over brick. Would like to know how you finished that wall. I usually watch your videos mulitple times.
I think I painted a tan color and then airbrushed different shades of tan over it. I did film some of it, but it wasn't good footage so it got cut from the final edit. I think it was similar to the stucco building in my Hooligans Alley video.
Hi, hows it going? Been awhile since your last video and was wondering if you were going to be posting again soon if so what are you working on? Thanks , Joe
Thanks for checking in. I have not been working on the train for a long time. I will try to get back to posting videos this year. I have some cool stuff in the stack. It has been so long, I have forgotten how to use the editing software.
Thanks for the comments. I do hope to return to making videos but I have been working on other projects and just have not had time. I am halfway through an FSM building which I am recording but I am not making much progress.
How are you doing? I was just reaching out to let you know, I'm a huge fan of your channel and often binge watch your channel while I'm building my own kits. Its been an unusually long time since you've posted a new video so I thought I'd reach out to you and see if you're ok... is there anything you need from us, your fan base? Do you have a "patrion" or "go fund me" site to accept donations?
Thanks for checking in. I am doing quite well but quite busy. I took up a different hobby and have not worked on the train in quite some time. I have a half-finished FSM kit on the workbench. It's been sitting there for at least six months. Maybe this winter I will get back to it. I do not have a patreon. I do all the train stuff and videos purely as a hobby and I really don't want to have any commitments that make them feel like work so I wouldn't feel right taking money from others for it. Anyway, I already have a stack of kits to build.
@asdasx392 that's great to hear... I was a bit worried. You hinted at possible health problems with your voice being different in a few videos. A confession... because of your videos, I made the step and purchased my first "craftsman " kit. Now, I've built nearly 20 of them... and LOVE them. Your videos inspired me to take that terrifying step of purchasing an "expensive (over plastic kits)" wooden kit. But, it's what you love in the hobby. Anyway, glad to hear you're doing ok... look forward toward new content my friend.
Well, since you mentioned it, I will spill the beans for anyone reading this comment. I had throat cancer two years ago and lost my voice temporarily because of treatment. Enough time has passed that it no longer seems like a big deal. Once I started building the wood kits, the plastic kits just didn't look right on my layout. And I think they are similar in cost on a per-hour-build-time bases if you think about how many more hours you spend on them. Glad you took the leap.

Fun to see a new video. Very nice build and I always learn something from your videos. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Thanks again Dave.
As always. Outstanding work! Can’t wait to see what you’ve got coming up next!

Nice work! I have several of these Bar Mills kits
Nice build and video, thanks for sharing it.

You should do more build videos, you do a nice job and are informative qith your techniques.
Thanks for the comments. I hope to start back this year.

Really nice build. I would love the hobby, but not patient enough 😂
Thanks for sharing your build. Hopefully a quick message to the manufacturer will yield the requisite amount of shingles.
Did you contact bar Mills about the shingle shortage? I would be curious about their response since they pride themselves on customer service.
You do some amazing work on these craftsman kits. Great work!
Do you build kits for others on commission?
Thanks for the kind words. I don't do work on commission at this time, but I might in the future. I don't really have time for it right now.
Great build. I do get frustrated with Bar Mills instructions at times.
Sierra west has the best instructions

I would love to get only the instruction sheets of these kits. Can anyone tell me how and where I can look for instruction sheets. Thanks.
