Binging all your videos of Dead Gods now. Such awesome designs. This villain design and how the clothing both him and the Shipwright have to ward off predators, is so genius. 🔥🔥🔥
For a brief moment, I thought this was Esav, Jacob’s brother and a powerful hunter who, as I was taught, may or may not have killed someone to receive leather garments originally belonging to Adam himself. Probably nimrod. I was taught they were made from the skin of goats, but I’ve seen sources that claim that they were made from the skin of the serpent, or even leviathan. In any case, this is fantastic stuff!
Hi Matt! I really love what you are doing here. I've thought for a long time that Antediluvian Earth is a great fantasy setting that has not been fully explored. I especially love how you are taking seriously the ramifications of extremely old humans.
These videos are filling a void left by your brothers old youtube series about drawing dnd characters. I hope you keep making them for a long time! That hat is too good of an idea not to use on another character down the line
Very cool to see the process, I really like the face features and scars mimicking scales but I'm not sold on the costume with the wrapings and I really liked the scrapped predatory motif hat. Looking forward to see more though!
Please do not stop making this amazing intriguing story you are creating! I think it has amazing potential and I love it!!!!😃 you have my undivided attention
i liked the original design with the piercing, cold face and unique hat, but the final one really displays his brutish, primal strength in all its fearsome glory. watching your concepts come to life iteration after iteration is both inspiring and envied, as i'm the type of artist who tends to hold attachment to most designs I make, so discarding concepts doesn't work for me
this is like a free masterclass in character design! so awesome! p.s. whole story and the direction it's going to has a strong Primal feel, and I mean that as a compliment!
Thought he was a *giant* in the thumbnail! I’m a big fan of the body mods, but not the hat. The hat would just get in the way during a hunt, though it would be great for traveling *to* hunts. His digitigrade walk reminds me of someone I know who used to walk like that on purpose…
I’m relieved to see how many sketches went into just achieving this single character design, and makes me think I’m not in as hopeless a position as I once thought 😅 How much time would you say you spent on this one design, sketches and all? I was thinking through how much work was necessary to design for my comic, and I felt like I wouldn’t even begin doing the sequential art for a year or two when it’s only an hour a night doing exploratory sketches. Thank you for sharing your process, Matt
@@mattrhodesart Thank you, I appreciate it! You covered a lot of ground in that time, that's cool. Will see if I can hold myself to that sort of turnaround too : )
I'm trying to figure it out ... based on the description, The Hunter seems to be a human shaped by his years on the prowl, but he has the red mouth-paint and pale skin associated with Nephilim. Does he have Nephilim blood? Perhaps that's a given, since it's implied that humanity was almost completely tainted with some measure of genetic corruption in the Antediluvian era.
No doubt that beings who live for hundreds of years would often go at least a little insane from the numbing effects of time; having experienced and perfected all that they once cared for. No doubt these mad men would either convince themselves that they can’t die and try to become gods, or go insane and take their interest into the extreme ie. like the hunter
So if the shipright and the hunter are both many centuries old, what is the average life expectancy in this story? Are the two of them imbued with some blessing of longevity? I know within the early parts of genesis it wasn't uncommon for various figures to live such long lives, not to mention the spiritual presence and nephelim, but at the same time I imagine that might not be true of every indevidual. I suppose my assumption is that one, since a being of such long lifespan would more likey garner such acclaim when everyone else lives a fraction of the life they do. I guess my other question then is whether the hunter is an aforementioned nephelim, or some other being of demonic influence. Love the world building here, already hooked on it and can't wait to see more.
I can definitely see why the original design felt like it had a less coherent theme/shape language. The final look is incredible!

I adore the hunter! Everything about him is just so evocative. I would love to see him grinning ear to ear talking about his hunts.

That's a trustworthy smile!
God I am so smitten with this worldbuilding concept, the design process is Fascinating to watch

The hole eyes motif your developing is making me think of bionically accurate angels

Awesome designs. Like the talons on the head subverting the skull helmet. Keep it up Matt!
This would be superb turned into a board game or TCG or something like that...
Thats the best kind of video, where a top tier artist is explaining the brainstorming process of the design! A big thank you for that :)
Pretty cool !
Simply amazing, loved the shipwright, and this is even better. Keep up the good work!

I really really love these! Is this process similar to how you do your day to day work as well?
In principle, yes. It's a lot faster on personal projects though.
Okay... sad the hat is gone, but that smile is just... nightmare fuel!!
damn, miss the hat already. Awesome video man!
When I heard Hunter I thought Nimrod, but I love this design!
Maybe Nimrod is a post-Flood adherent to surviving members of this guy's cult?

Dang…I love your format. Fantastic
My god, you are talented.
This is awesome bro 🤯
Loving these!
Okay the Hunter is wicked cool
love the speed and pace of this video while still telling the story!
Looks amazing!

Watching you design the dragon hunter. Makes me think of Monster Hunter. Like ke the Monster Hunter world was the preflood world lol.

Just the sketch stage (to get to "the hat" version) was an evening, maybe 3-4 hours. The final version was another evening, similar timeline.

Vorinclex would be proud
is this one of those “mythical algorithm pulls” that the youngsters are talking about?
My first thought was Abel and then Nimrod
2:59 Homey looks like the comedian Steve Byrne a little. No offense meant Steve!

Noooo, the hat T.T

How long could a person potentially live here? The hunter is 600, and still seems extremely vital
969 is the oldest mentioned in the source material.
This kinda reminds me of Killer Croc from Batman the animated series. This looks amazing.
I give this video like and hope you will run ads to promote your nice channel
I find that making the for libs longer makes characters look more animalistic
NGL, not feeling the hat. A hunter wants to hide. Blend in. Not stick out. Not let the quarry know he's there.
Can i animate this charapters?😅
Sure!
:0
Am I the only one who thinks the background is too bright, or just doesn't complement the sketch that well
