Te deum de Jean Baptiste Lully (1632 - 1687)
Jean-François Paillard, Orchestre de Chambre
They say the "soundtrack" in Heaven will be pure Baroque....and Lully will be conducting!
OK, I'm going.
As a Devout Catholic thats what i imagine heaven s music too
It´s end of Octobre.. dark and cold time.. a cup with hot coffee, candle lights and sit in a comfortable chair...what a great moment to listen this heavenly music.
I'm a fanatic about all things Baroque, as well ! What an age of glory, from music to architecture; a flowering of the best of humanity.
Culturally maybe, but what about the Enlightenment?
You should visit Sicily!: The capital of italian Baroque. Take a look at the churches of Palermo . Santa Caterina d'Alessandria, San Giuseppe dei Teatini and San Matteo

Did you know a little bit about "realistic" history?
Did you know that the "enlightenment" ... Wasn't really enlightenment?
There was NO, enlightenment, during the enlightenment, neither culturally or scientific. You're just telling the same bullshit story that Is writted in the oficial texts, wich Is nothing but a masonic lie, hahaha.
During the enlightenment, there was just murderers, with an anti-democratic goberment.
Robespierre and his bunch of Jacobins ... Will not let me to lie you, haha;).
@@margaritabarbosa7235 It's interesting that Robespierre, who sent many a Frenchman to the guillotine, ultimately found himself on the scaffold, waiting to meet the "National Razor".

A wonderful, dramatic and thrilling performance.
Gloire éternelle a Lully !
This performance is after decodes the most engaging and solemn. Good choice! I started to listen to it at the age of 20 , and never left me
Kippenvel-muziek!!!
This is majestic to the core! I want to go back in time..

Haevenly divine and royal SOUND of the absolute SOUVERAIN - the only king worthy of such title. Spirit of highest possible EXSTASY and MAJESTY without Equal, balanced with SUPREME sweetness and delicacy . Every time is like the first time. UNBELIEVABLE ! BRAVO Jean Baptist ! But,- this is only one short excerpt...entire composition is longer.
'The only king worth of that title'...Uuuum..., not indeed for a moment! In spite of his scenic splendors, Louis was a disastre for all European powers, not to say the rest. He settled a quite ominous example for centuries...to follow.

Truly beautiful! I have this exact version on a record that I play now and then! One of my favorite Te Deums
Lully is divine!!!
I first heard this around 1960 and have been looking for it ever since. Don't ask me why I did not think of You Tube before I saw it by chance now. Just Thank you.
fantastic ,magnific,vive Lully!!!
Glorious music. It must have been absolutely overwhelming amidst the splendour of Versailles. The Ancien Regime in all its power and magnificence, a hundred years before the tumbrils came-but come they did. Sic transit Gloria mundi;as the man said.
Then the Reolution came i.e. the leftists and they never cease since then to pollute . Conserative is the real thing.Noble motivations .
For my money there is more colour and movement in this sort of music than in modern pop
Most definitely so! The difference between an ant hill and a Himalayan mountain!

....This -Jean Francois Paillard recording of TE DEUM, I find incomparably best compared to all the others. Same music, in its complete version / 39 min. / is posted on You Tube as well, but it must be typed-in as a request, and specifically the orchester of JEAN FRANCOIS PAILLARD , because that is, what makes all of the difference.
I have that recording
When I walk in anywhere...Either Te Deum or Handel's Royal Fireworks play in mind =)
Khalid AlAli Absolutely ! I'm going to add to that list, very similar in style if you don't mind, Handel's Zadok the Priest. These three pieces are almost on constant repeat when I'm walking.

great!!! magnifique!!!
Typical ceremonial Lully, very royal... would like it performed with period natural trumpets, However. it still sounds properly regal. Great music! A shame Lully departed this earth prematurely, "Le Roi est mort, vive le Roi !!"

@krystufekrobin1 The singers don't sing "france" because it is in latin. If you mean "latin with a french pronunciation", probably because it's a pretty old record (1976) and the historically informed performances art was moving the very first steps at the time. I don't agree that a bit more down-tempo is necessarily a bad thing, especially with such a sumptuous work.
It's funny... I don't understand why all the other interpretations that i heard of this piece seems so rushed... This is a great mass for god's sake. Not a carnival parade. This great ouverture should sound majestic and suitable to king's Louis XIV taste in ouvertures and all types of introitus. Now, that's a good tempo !
What happened with the tempo change at 1:20? Was this a mistake or intentional?
The music of Lully marks the end of the French Renaissance and the beginning of the classical period. Lully, an Italian by birth, called on his formation to create the "style versaillais". Lully himself also created the 'suite', the very notion and arrangement of a succession of pieces of various moods, may of them dance music, which in turn became the basis for the symphony, so he was undeniably modern. However, his music still shows its roots, which is why it is so 'dynamic'. The Renaissance, and previously the Renascimiento, had certainly accustomed us to scores that changed tempo abruptly, to mark or follow the mood set by the 'livret'. That is why the music of this motet follows the wording. Where they speak of the divine, the music is heavenly and where they are warlike, so is the music. By the way, the words are those of Psalm 51, if memory serves. A perfect example of the transition from heavenly to warlike is heard in the transition from "Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus" to "Dominus Deus Sabaoth", Latin for "Holy, holy, holy. The Lord God Sabaoth [meaning, 'of War', one of the ancient Hebrew names of the one better known, nowadays, as Yahwe, Jehovah, or simply God]. The music for the sanctus is sung by a Manécanterie, a choir of young boys, gifted with high pitched, ethereal vocal organs, while the very martial passage for "Dominus..." is sung by both the adult and child choirs accompanied by an orchestra with heavy emphasis on the role of trumpets, which are military instruments used to sound the charge, but also to celebrate glory. Although the score was sub-titled "Gloria Dei" (to the glory of God), no one at the court of Versailles was a dupe; this was composed to celebrate the nascent glory of the Sun King, who fancied himself a Warrior-King. Naturally, he never fought in any of the many wars he declared, as his precious person could not be exposed to such dangers, which may account for the fact that France has gained nothing from the death of so many young men. Nevertheless, Louis made Lully his minister of music to repay his accomplishment. It is said he asked to hear it again, a second time, right after hearing for the first time.
Vive Le Roi !!
@@eliseereclus3475 you say he / she imbecile just because his / her choosing . And you think democracy is better than monarchy then you are the one that idiot and i wonder do you even graduate from pre school or kindergaten
👌👌👌👌👌
Lully actually stabbed himself while conducting this with his conducting staff (Lully would hit the floor to keep the musicians in time, this was a time before conventional conducting) Lully refused to have his infected foot amputated because it would ruin him as a dancer. Instead he caught gangrene which killed him two months later.

@krystufekrobin1 I agree about the speed. I would have play a less slow version. Concerning the language, this is in Latin, cause a Te Deum is a religious play, which says basically something like "thank you God for what you have done for us" :)
I'm going to heaven!!! Wait... False alarm.
