For those who do not quite understand...Mouret knew EXACTLY what he was doing.He wanted the hunting horn, not the more-tamed orchestral horn, played with hand in bell, that was coming into use. (Likewise, the outdoor shawm family was being tamed into the orchestral oboes and bassoons.) What you are hearing are the NATURAL harmonics. Unless you are familiar with organs, and know of such mean-toned stops as "Tierce" (1-3/5) and "Sept" (1-1/7), they will sound strange at first. Why no hand in bell? If you are a hunting horn player, on horseback, you hold the horn in one hand and the reins in the other. So Mouret was having a bit of fun, and I am sure his intended audience understood and enjoyed the contrast between the natural tuning of the horns, and the mean-tone temperment of the Orchestra. (Mean tone temperment should not be confused with well temperment, which came later, or with the modern equal temperment. It is precisely because you are mostly used to hearing modern tempered that NATURAL horns sound so...well..."unnatural"...

Frankly, the horns are the best part. They give you images of great armies marching to victory, or great men on horseback charging into victory. That’s what I see, atleast. Speed it to 1.5 and it sounds really good

Paillard's recordings are in line with the Baroque performances fifty or sixty years ago. We should be grateful to Paillard for bringing to light so many works and so many composers beyond the Baroque superstars and pioneering in the flowering of Baroque music performances.

Acheter de la viande issue d'abattoirs aux pratiques discutables c'est la soutenir. Le maltraitant n'est pas toujours celui que l'on croit. Et l'enfer est pavé de bonnes intentions, donc d'idées droites.

La population de gibier est artificiellement gonflée par l'élevage et le lâché (sangliers, etc.) et le nourrissage (cervidés, etc.). Pour diverses raisons (éthiques, écologiques, etc.), nous devons drastiquement diminuer notre consommation de viande. Sinon, je parlais des prédateurs qui ne sont plus là, les loups par exemple, et tout ceux qui se trouvent au bout des chaînes alimentaires. Leur absence se fait sentir quand on vit dans des régions comme la Picardie, où les sangliers sont en trop grand nombre et causent des dégâts aux cultures et même aux forêts. A noter que la baisse du nombre de chasseur n'a pas été non plus compensée. Pour les autres prédateurs, ils sont loin d'être partout exterminés, puisque dans beaucoup de région ils se mettent également à pulluler. C'est vrai des renards par exemple qui se rabattent sur les ordures des villes. Il y a de nombreux autres exemples. Vosian Nope. That is the way true hunting horns sound. No hand in the bell to modify pitch and/or tone. There are other You Tube uploads of authentic hunting horns in action. Aslan is not a tame lion, and hunting horns are not tamed orchestral horns. Like the Scottish Highland Great Bagpipes, it DOES take some getting used to. But it is worth it.
This is the authentic sound of it is known to be a "Trompe de chasse" , which is a special kind of a natural horn, crafted in a way that allows the sound to propagate through the woods during the hunting sessions. The choice of the cover image is either just lucky or fully conscious or both, as there is a very special area inside the castle, where all the walls are covered with paintings of hunting episodes, plenty of horns...
