First thing I did when I heard of Kobe Bryant's untimely death was come and watch your review of this game (first one). I remember them both getting good reviews in N64 magazine way back, though I never owned either. Will see if I can pick one up, as they look good.
It's really sad Nintendo no longer has their 1st/2nd parties making sports games for their systems. NBA Courtside, Ken Griffey Baseball, 1080 Snowboarding, Wave Race, etc. I really wish they'd bring these back!
Sports games flopped on the Gamecube, even NBA2K stopped getting released on Nintendo's consoles for years because it wasn't selling well. I think one problem is the Gamecube/Wii controllers were very poorly designed for sports games (where as the N64 controller is perfect for baseball for instance) but to me the biggest problem was Nintendo had no online. Once NBA 2K1 on Dreamcast went online I could never look back. I also think the Gamecube NBA Courtside was a big step back from this game.
I watched your two Courtside videos in memory of Kobe Bryant. RIP. I used to own this game btw. It was my pick for best basketball game on the N64. Although the AI did have a tendency to sometimes come to a dead stop when in possession of the ball. Random side question: is 6’2” your actual height? Also, the two NBA Live games on the N64 will need to be covered soon 😊
My fave basketball game ever is NBA Hangtime on N64, very underrated over the top arcade basketball game imo and dare I say it, yes even better than NBA Jam. NBA Courtside is my favourite simulation basketball game on N64 as part 2 unfortunately was never released in Europe and so I never got to play that one. I'll have to try and get an import copy now. :-)
I never had Courtside 2, but I did have the original. I remember when you created a character, you could basically give them godlike stats. That was always fun.
Is this going to be the first of a long line of basketball reviews? I'm suprised the N64 isn't known more for basketball games, as it's probably the 3rd biggest genre behind arcade racing and platformers
Hey Glenn! I always loved playing NBA courtside with my little brother. the character building mode was kinda bland but you could make your player 7' 10" with max'd stats if you wanted! I picked this game up in a lot a while back for a couple $ but haven't played it other than for a few mons to test it. I'll have to break it out next time I'm hanging with him and try out the "new" modes!
If you want to see the most horrifying cheat in any game, go to the cheat screen and enter C-Up (x2), C-Down, C-Up, C-Down for Long Neck Mode. Rest in Peace Kobe, and all of the victims of the recent tragedy.
I liked Double Dribble and NBA Jam, but this game reminds me of that era where Nintendo had their dream team and actually had a good sports lineup[(sure still nowhere close to PS but you know) and awesome close second party teams and where we had a constant parade of sports games on all consoles and PC. Then of course Nintendo's dream team fell apart, people went their separate ways and kinda went down the toilet, sports became a thing of the past with Nintendo, and nowadays if you want your sports fix, it's either EA or like two other publishers and that covers all sports. A real shame.
was my favourite game of the first gen consoles. i liked space jam on ps1 but it was kind of goofy cartoonish for kids. Then my favourite was nba courtside 2002 on gamecube, graphics were tremendous. Then NBA live 2003 for the career and one on one modes, which was my last sports game i ever played
Like for my favourite N64 reviewer! One more thing - I have a question. How many N64 games are left for you to review to complete the series? Thank you))
Rest in peace Kobe Bryant.
Amen to that brother, so sad

Rest in pieces

@@kenrickkahn wow that’s really gay lolol
My first bargain bin purchase. I looooved this game. Played so much with my Mom.

Japan destroyed them.
and the strange thing is Nintendo Sports was successful! Why Nintendo stop doing sports games is beyond me??
Why did this happen?

This was seriously my favorite basketball game back in the day.
one of mine too
Same
Player faces are spot on. Really impressive stuff graphically for the N64.
I always felt that way too
yeah true. It got even better in nba courtside 2002 on gamecube, they looked really realistic unlike nba live or nba 2k games of that time.
oh look at that I already passed here ☺
@@JSB-2Z-2K Courtside 2002 was very impressive in the graphics area during that time..
Would love to see a Glenn Plant livestream of NBA courtside to remember Kobe Bryant
Kobe was the reason I got this game. I still play it to this day.
I enjoyed the video! Keep it up!
Fantastic video! Keep it up!
RIP Chick Hearn ;-;
Stu Lantz is still announcer and does so with James Worthy who was playable in NBA Jam.
thats very cool to know!
@@n64glennplant Chick Hearn is really well recognized in LA, we even gave him a monument and a special banner.

This game was incredible, you could play off the ball and post up and do actual moves in the post.
Oh shit, and I forgot about the camera work. That angle where you're facing up court from almost court level is such an amazing experience.
YeH defo a great basketball game

i literally played this game yesterday in arcade mode with my friend :) it's amazing!
Going to have to pick this one up. Missed out on this back in the day
I was an NBA Hangtime fan, but this looks pretty good. I'll definitely give it a try.
Hearing the commentary saying the players names was mind blowing for me back then on the N64
Yeah really amazing hey
The whistle every couple seconds in your background music was distracting.
So much memories with this game
Amen to that!
Nice content!

This game better then 2k21
the intro music is bad ass.
I was more into football games on the N64 like NFL blitz my frienx but i can see why you like this game my friend it looks fantastic.
Love and miss u Kobe !

Oh yeah, and when do we hear the story about how a young Glenn got banned from playing basketball? ;)
RIP kobe
Amen 🙏🏼
Buying this in 2022 just so I can play as Vancouver.
Loved both titles.

Was my fav game
Still great isn’t it
This game looks really good! For a N64 game.
I recently book got this game, I will played and make some videos as well in tribute to Kobe. Mamba for life.
EA sports is the reason Nintendo left the sports game business. Yep EA was somewhat corrupt back in the 90s as well.
Portland was my team in this game... and this isthe greatest N-64 sport game

Arcade mode you could hit the 5 point mark
The no sink noise drove me crazy
I never played Courtside, nor 1 or 2, but I did play in the zone, the one from Konami I think. It was a fun game, but this one looks interesting too.
I hope you dont mind that Glenn! my last comment on this video has something you will love about basketball and games!
Am I the only one that watches these videos even if I have no interest in the game?
Cloud Strife buzz off idiot!
The guy has a great voice and a way of presentation that would make you interested in just about any N64 game.
me too
No lol I actually have interest in getting this game
Like for my favourite N64 reviewer! One more thing - I have a question. How many N64 games are left for you to review to complete the series? Thank you))
Hey Glenn, have you changed your capture software? You seem to be getting a lot of combing in this game. Is it just the this game?
How popular are basketball games in the UK?
Dope!
very good gameeee
cool
To bad this Game was not releast in Europe 😭😭😭
Big shame
Nvr played it
Shame it’s a fun one

Never gave this one a look before. Doesn't look that bad at all.

NBA courtside was trash live and 2k was wayyy better at the time
Your wrong. Live is garbage, 2K is still best tho but this game is classic bud
@@packie2624 it wasn’t that good it had some nice game modes but like I said live and 2k were way better
