I don't know if I'm right, but I consider that this locomotive has 7000 HP on the drawbar, because it has two powers: output power and original, the original is 8550 HP, because when it was delivered in 1941, its power output, which is what fuels the traction effort, was 6290 HP, and the original power was 7450 HP, an enormous difference compared to now, How the Allegheny is an Original mallet, that is why it is slower, that is how they put it to transport coal, this locomotive is to transport merchandise and income, they are two tasks the Yellowstone for minerals and the norfolk AND western for express coal.
It could be fun if the public of Sacramento got to see the Big Boy train on display like they did with the 844 train, and people travel to come see it on display but i don't know when they would do that again really.
I think they still used the diesel for additional power, probably to save on the wear and tear of steam locomotive parts, when the Big Boy has to endure grades.
@@NPFIlms-LionelTrains4014 doesn't need any help, not with 7000 HP on tap. They say the diesel is for dynamic braking to conserve the shoes on the Big Boy.
OUTSTANDING ! ! !
Солидарна😊
Great touches with the WP Heritage Diesel! UP Delivers!
I still hate seeing a diesel behind her.
Being from Cheyenne, the rare occasions the big boy is out, you can hear the whistle all over town, awesome

I was there, but not taking video. Thanks so much for sharing this!
No problem!
Wow! No graffiti on any of the cars. Great video! Thank You
@@IdahoPohTaToh That’s what I thought as well! You can actually see the parts of the cars that they touched up.
Nice to see that steam instead of what you find on the sidewalk.
@@joshuapaul349 It is, fun stationary and moving too!
@@NPFIlms-LionelTrains I meant the fecal matter you find steaming on the sidewalks.
@@joshuapaul349 😂 Didn’t know you meant that!
Nice video n I scrb you 👍❤
Not fair. They should have made a visit to the bay area 😢

@@JoshuaBarnett-d3l I asked Ed Dickens about that and he said the next time they do a train tour they would bring it to Old Sac.
Both Amtrak Zephyr trains literally missed Big Boy by mins😢.
It really did, but I think the Big Boy stopped to wait for the trains to pass.
Didn't come down to Santa Barbara. Maybe tuns to sharp.
while the diesel is no longer needed for PTC, is it not needed for head end power for the consist?

I Was There Too when I saw It Then Chased It To Del Paso Heights Video On My Channel
Why have they had to add the diesel loco back to the train? I thought they had found a solution to having a diesel as part of thet train.
@@davidbross6942 Something along the lines of a pusher engine to help the big boy up grades, and prevent the wearing out of parts.

@@brucefrytz8611I think I once heard on a video that the shoes can run around $25,000 as they have to be custom made.
Is there a way to track this trains journey?
Search up UP Big Boy tracker on Google. They have their own website and twitter that tells you it's current location!
Wall to wall foamers. 😆
@@markfrench8892 In their natural habitat
Somewhere they switched diesel locomotives.
I think it was switched in Portola CA.
I read they wanted the WP 1983 Heritage unit to go through the Feather River Canyon.
