I had to remove my old presentation video on this padlock as soon as I noticed a security weakness on it. Zinc die cast parts in locks are widely used nowadays as they are very inexpensive both in material and production costs. The die for a zinc die cast part will last much longer as the one for other materials. This part on the Abus 24RK 70 should be made out of brass and not out zinc die cast. This is the least you can expect at a retail price that is about 25-30€.
Watch bosnianbill melt the cover and bypass the locking mechanism:

Looks promising. We shouldn't need more than 2 locks to prove or disprove this. If it IS zinc, a common propane torch will be enough to melt it. Can't wait to give it a try!
I bypassed the 72/40 and the video was taken offline by YT. I will however do the video again and this time even shorter and better. You can not use the drainage holes to get access I have tried that before but will try it again. The drainage holes are actually a good idea, in the past they only had one and then they recognised that these padlocks often hang sideways so they decided to add two more.
No Problem, thank you for the comment!
Because he did. I uploaded the video in private so that we could talk about the project and whether he thinks if it will work or not :)
Smart idea Adrian...I too just watched the fiasco on Bills channel....
What Abus bypass video did you make, and yt take off, and why?...
And on the subject of bypass, what do you think of all the drain holes? The one at the bottom should give access to something? No?
Was fun to watch for me too :)
Depends, some companies like Anchor Las for example produce not only a wide but also very good in quality Padlocks. Anchor Las is the only company wich such a large variety of padlocks that I know of though.
The quality of the lock is good the cover should however be replaced by something made out of brass
