1:27 this is just brilliant. I mean just brilliant, so polished and done up like a bow, it almost made me recite a certain christmas poem, and the next line ends with snow.
The arrangements, first they are conceived in the brain ... then they are written and finally executed. Mr. Alan Baylock, should be considered ... GENIOUS !!
Superb !!!!!! You guys are a monster of a band! Good dynamics, monster chops done very well. Talk about being in unison.... Bass and drummer really kept the foundation hoppin'. Keys were good. Here I am, 3:30 a.m., sick as a dog, and for a few minutes I felt great!!!!!
Haha, 1st and 3rd ;) they use alternate positions both, 2nd doesn't probably because they had both the idea of doing that the same time (i know the feeling :P soms sectional humor)
Amazing. Thank God for His love, mercy, protection, and creations, and thank God during the highs and lows and God bless you and all of us in Jesus Christ’s King of all kings blood that was shed and name we pray amen. 😊 Fantastica. Jim, while I love the Airmen of Note, I can't endorse your statement that they are the finest in the land. There's a LOT of competition for them, some of it coming from North Texas, and the UNT One O'Clock Lab Band. Here's *their* rendition of Cherokee! ua-cam.com/video/NGQvP3Buv60/v-deo.html
Gary C I agree that the soloist on the UNT version of Cherokee was better than the soloists here, but he's not even in UNT. As a band, AON are a better overall ensemble by quite a bit. It's not really fair to compare though, because unt is a bunch of kids and aon is all full time professional musicians. UNT is amazing though, regardless
@@hughpenner1417 Both bands are wonderful, and IMO both are better than many name bands, and each deserves our mutual respect. I wouldn;t want to compare them
This is one of the sadder performances I’ve had to watch, not because it’s bad, but just the opposite. It’s a great rendition that just overshadowed by UNT and Sean Jones. Not much you can do against both of them though. Still some absolutely fantastic moments though.
@@harrison7723 I’m gonna guess that Josh from the UNT recording has since “fully fundamentally developed,” as he is now the lead trumpet player in the US Army Band.
@@harrison7723btw I agree with you that I prefer this recording over the UNT one, this band is more locked in with sound and blend. This is a cleaner performance than the UNT video.
The Air Force, along with all the other military branches, have several bands for different things. This particular band is all about jazz, and yes, they have a piano. But, you'd better be professional level before even thinking about joining up, they expect you to already know how to play, and play well. So, they aren't going to 'teach' you anything about HOW to play, it's expected you already know how.
This is one of the recordings of all time

The 1st trumpet is God level
so is second
I think the trumpets sound best as as an ensemble rather than as soloists in the lower-middle register.
Thomas what?
@@masonklein I liked the ensemble passages. I thought they were more enjoyable than some of the solo passages.
Watch the One'O Clock one, it is so much better.
The band all together was genius and beautifully in tune.

Great stuff! Love this rendition of Cherokee! My wife was USAF 1980-1984 stationed in KI Sawyer and Thule!
My niece's husband on the trombone at 4:36. Kevin Cerovich.
I love this band. What a fun association for you. Thanks for their service! Best wishes.
Wow. Just dropped into this. Great band!!! Super arrangement by Baylock! Each section is so spot on.

Trumpet four Flugel solo love to see it
Listen to this almost every day
I loved it - especially the flugel. I can't believe as I write this in 2020 7 people disliked this. I'd say to those 7 - you try and do it better
1st and 2nd bones at 2:55
what happens?
They look at each other, smile, and laugh.

The USAF always had the best music. Started with the Glen Miller era.
Lead alto got denied so hard when cutting off the tune lol
No, it is very common for the lead trumpet to hold the last note for a little bit "too long" and do a little fall like that called a kiss off.
Amazing. Thank God for His love, mercy, protection, and creations, and thank God during the highs and lows and God bless you and all of us in Jesus Christ’s King of all kings blood that was shed and name we pray amen. 😊

As far as speed, I'd say presto to breakneck. The bass player got a real workout. Quality brass here, too.
Drummer is a friend - (grew up here where I live)
2:16 what’s that like a double C?
Yup
That Double C is the size of my head
This is what the whole world must listen to, to live happily!!!!
One of the best I have heard so far
Have you heard the other Cherokee recording by airmen of note?
And to think they intend to drastically cut the budget for our military bands.
Nice bass playing, too!
It's a shame we didn't get to hear any of the trombones solo.
Props to bass player
3:16 the drummer played the dr jekyll rhythm!!
Also at 2:16
Literally my favorite rhythm ever
I`m going to the Irvine Barclay Teatre on September 25 .

YES SCREAMING IS IMPORTANT BUT SO IS TASTEFUL IMPROV.
I disagree about the screaming. Musicality is boss!
Wow!
Sort of incredible.
That was pretty sick!!
Kowa Bongo !
Who are in the trumpet section?? Amazing playing
From left to right, Luke Brandon/Brian MacDonald/Kevin Burns/Tim Leahy
Does anyone know if this arrangement can be bought anywhere???
The Arranger of this chart has some other stuff that he never sends to publishing and only writes for certain bands. So I guess not
Walter Brown this is almost the same arrangement as the university of north Texas one o clock lab band.
It's exactly the same one. Alan Baylock wrote this when he was chief arranger for the Airmen of Note and is now directing the One O'Clock at UNT
Saed 276590 j think it is the exact same arrangement
It sure was
The smile at 3:30 :)
Outstanding jazzing!
Just think folks.AON has ,for over 50 years ,been the finest band in the land.
