    Another thing is that number of followers isn’t always what is important, it’s more of a question of engagement and what the purpose of your social media is to you. I run a small animation studio and despite not running ads and having less than a thousand followers we still get clients and other opportunities from our social media. Depending on what you want to do with your creative career you might not need to go viral.

      👋 If you can find quality client with a small following, you don’t need to scale up. Being small is also a nice choice in this uncertain time.

    • @gnowra

      @@ClickerFest a bit of both but also I can’t speak highly enough of word of mouth clients. Some of our early clients were friends of friends who found our social media via conversations. I know a lot of other creative folks who started in a similar way. it’s really valuable just to be nice and to make sure your friends know about your business (I’m not saying to be pushy to your friends, just to make sure they know about what you are trying to do...you never know where an opportunity might come from). Now days I also ask clients to recommend us to other people, we specialise in music videos and musicians tend to talk to other musicians.
      Edit: just to clarify I think a social media presence that accurate communicates your art in a pleasing way is super useful in word of mouth because that’s where potential clients are likely to be sent...even if they weren’t sent by the algorithm

    • @gnowra
      @gnowra 3 роки тому +1

      @@Anastasia_Sever that’s actually kind of why I made my first comment. I’ve always struggled with getting followers and likes but still had some good opportunities. In terms of the friends thing it’s not really that my friends are particularly supportive it’s just that you really don’t know who could give you an opportunity. As an example someone I barely knew from University showed one of their friends a project my studio worked on and this led to a client for us. Not all creative businesses and artists work in the same way but that’s the whole point, maybe you get success by going viral, maybe you cold email the right person, maybe an acquaintance recommends your art to someone who wants to buy it...the point is that social media is one element of getting opportunities, something else might work better for you.

    1. Have your niche. (Remember: Jack of all trades and master of none)
    2. Have strong visual identity ( people should recognize your art)
    3. Don't shoot too many blanks ( if you can say in one post that is it)
    4. Engagement ( want to reach new people)
    5. Storytelling
    6. Catch your momentum ( check which of your work is most trending)
    7. Don't show too much of your personal life

    I was very upset today because I posted some new art on my ig, thinking that maybe my engagement would get better, but I totally fell flat on my face. Your video helped me see what I'm doing wrong, and I think the problem is that I don't have a strong visual identity and a target public. At the moment, I'm very lost as an artist and don't really know what path I should take. But anyway, thank you so much for the video. Even though I'm kinda lost, I know what I should do now.

    Doesnt matter what galleries or others think about what you have been doing for the last years and why you are start painting now - No „late-starting“ artist has to come up with some story - Just say the truth or say whatever - If someone find it strange thats they're problem - Important thing is you started and should just focusing on painting and share it - Dont have to have use the old school galleries - The world is a one big gallery with all the social media and millions will love what you paint without asking questions "why are you starting now?"

    • @VeryPrivateGallery
      @VeryPrivateGallery  3 роки тому

      Sure! Just start at any time and create works that people would want to buy. That’s the real deal. But some people like to “small talk”. Like when I entered a kayak club for the first time, other club members asked: what brought you here? I applied for business school after 30 years old, I was also asked: “why are you doing this?” They are not trying to embarrass me, they are just trying to break the ice. When you start painting later in life, people are gonna ask - not in a bad way. It’s good to have some kind of answers at hand, so you can make great impressions. It’s not to justify, but to socialize.

    Hello again!
    Great points! While watching the video I just jotted down some thoughts:
    I just wanted to say that the fastest way to grow your art on social media at the moment is tiktok. You can go from 0 to 300,000 overnight. It is one of the best social media platforms for art!
    Other things you can do is utilize places like reddit to advertise your art, and be smart about what you post! EVERYONE loves a good realism piece and if you create a really good one and share your other social media platforms through reddit then people can see the art that you truly like to make!
    You can also take advantage of holidays, national events, etc. To get on trending very easily.

      Haha yes. In the past if you have several skills you might be the most popular person in a village. Today art becomes more and more niche. People would like more to see a specialized and dedicated artist who isn’t doing anything else. Like when Paris Hilton told the media that she is becoming an artist, she received quite bad press. If she had been doing art and only art all her life, I am sure she could receive much better feedback from the public.

    • @VeryPrivateGallery

      One of the good way to promote your art brand is to separate all the different skills you have, and make different profiles for each of them. This way you can have several sources of income. Many brands like Inditex (largest fashion textile brand in Spain) is doing it this way.

    I like how you addressed points besides posting consistently or connecting with a lot of other artists. For a while now I've observed how most of my favourite popular artists have stayed on the app for years, but I didn't hear about something like that other than here when you pointed out being born in the wrong time. For me, it was accepting my art enough to show it to the world too late. I won't say my progress is bad but not really favourable either, my art has progressed enough from practicing that now I get comments telling me that they would love to see more of style. I'm at about 30 posts with 450 followers and i show a lot of OCs and sometimes their stories and little comics. My biggest fear is spending months on instagram with little to no progress. (Sometimes comments saying you're underrated can be embrassing or even painful to read lol 😅)

      Hi thanks for sharing your thoughts. If each post can bring you more than 4 new followers, that is already better than my growth rate. There is no mathematical equation to calculate how many followers you will get from posting. Just think each follower you get without paying, is something you’ve got for free :)

    Hello, I used to post my art on my personal channel, but now that I decided to sell my artwork, I created an account for my pieces. All my paintings are abstract with different styles. I posted my first post today, but to be honest I’m kind of scared of failing and not being able to sell my art. I don’t know I’m trying to grow my account before selling obviously, but I just hope it does. Thank you for your tips!

    IMO we don't need to try harder at social media, we need to stop putting so much emphasis on it. The algorithms weren't created to lift up good art and help artists gain a following. The algorithm's only purpose is to keep people engaged and scrolling on the platform. It only promotes the kind of "content" that does that successfully. So stop caring. The number of likes and follows we get means nothing about the value of our artwork. We should focus on making the things we want to make and finding success through the tangible goals that we want to achieve.

    So basically artists have difficult growing partly because people are short-minded and an artist must adapt to these people? Tbh it should be the other way around, people should try to reach for all the variety of art, being good at a lot of stuff is sometimes better than being excellent at only one thing, it depens on the circumstances. I'll never understand people who only want that only one thing, the more creativity and talens one have, the better

    • @VeryPrivateGallery
      @VeryPrivateGallery  3 роки тому +1

      Trying to change how people behave is almost impossible. My personal goal is to change how artists think about money, and I could not. I can only change the ones who are more receptive to changes. How to find the ones who can and want to change? You need to reach people, lots of people. You need to grow on social media to reach and elevate them.

    You cant understand artists who dont want to follow trends? It doesnt seem true either. Very trendy ig artists are hardly seen as separate from one another. New interesting and experimental stands out.

    • @VeryPrivateGallery
      @VeryPrivateGallery  3 роки тому

      You can follow trends yet stand out. It’s not mutually exclusive. For example, urban art was trending few years ago. The French artist C215 stood out using a special technique. He didn’t really follow the trend intentionally - the trend happened to be on the same way.

    • @bradleiby
      @bradleiby 3 роки тому +1

      @@VeryPrivateGallery maybe you are just looking for more replys. Ill just say again that following trends feels gross to some artists and thankfully isnt necessary.

    • @VeryPrivateGallery
      @VeryPrivateGallery  3 роки тому +1

      @@bradleiby Sure, it isn’t necessary. Nowadays to get collectors’ attention, one has to be bigger, better or different. Bigger, as a strategy is leaning towards the trends. Better and different aren’t necessarily following the trends. There is always a path right for an individual artist.
