Same here! I watched that Juan Soto HR (that sent them to the World Series) live and new Jomboy was gonna do a video. So cool learning about the game. I haven’t watched baseball for 20 years, I’ve been missing playoff baseball this whole time!
Jomboy's analysis today is lightyears beyond where he was a few years back. His videos were always great, but his feel for the game is even better now. Likely comes from watching videos and talking to actual players and managers like Boone that he picks up things he wouldn't have when he first started.
I've been learning about this strategic battle over the last few years but this is the first analysis of a hitter deliberately swinging at a ball to entice the pitcher.
Stanton was 100% chasing early to get people to pitch to him. His eye was infallible all series but magically, he swings at the first two pitches of every at bat? I don't think so. He knew EXACTLY what he was doing.
He was 1000% baiting them in that last at bat. Stanton doesn’t swing and miss on something that far out of the zone in October unless there’s a purpose for it lol
Man that’s what makes you the goat, Jomboy 9:15. Even live, you had the strategy of that at-bat nailed and that’s what made you so incredulous at the result. You are what the words “baseball purist” ought to mean.
Because the have a three headed beast in Soto, Stanton and judge. A mistake to any of those 3 can change the dynamic of a game. Say you walk Stanton and jazz comes up. Even if he gets a hit the chances are high that it won’t be a home run or a single or most likely it will be an out. Play the numbers. The Yankees pitchers can take that risk.
This is why Jamboy is the best, he gets angry at the Guardians for making bad decisions when he's rooting for the Yankees. That is next level baseball knowledge being a curse.
Thank you for this video, I wasn't watching cause I was still upset about how we blew this but I knew there was reason I loved watching Jomboy, thank you Guards you gave a magical season I'm glad I paid attention to almost the entire season!
Here after WS Game 1, this breakdown is golden: teams should walk Stanton or he will crush a homer (check), and the Yankees will aggressively load the bases (CHECK). Went a little too far with that strategy when you load the bases for Freddie Freeman!
The Yankees lineup where it comes to Soto is like coming up on the final side of monopoly and you don't own Park Place and Boardwalk! Lol..... And there are hotels on them 😅
I love that he's more mad at the bad strategy by Cleveland than celebrating his own team's home run. That's the hallmark of a true sports fan, rather than just a team fan.
A few years back Jomboy hooked us on baseball because of the analysis and lip reading. Now he's doing it because he really has good instincts and eye for analysing the situation of a game. Kudos!
Not only Stanton but also Soto got the go ahead homer to win the series cause they didn't walk him to face Judge who right now couldn't hit the ocean if he fell off of a cruise ship.
Great video, excruciating decisions by Cleveland. Stanton's swing at that first pitch outside was so unconcerned, like "yeah, it's a foot away from my bat, don't care, just please keep pitching to me."
Watched this game on TV and so glad you decided to put this breakdown on your channel. Hilarious!! And I was rooting for the Guardians, but they really got “played”!!Great job.⚾️‼️
Late nights, exciting playoff games with lots of screaming, small child at home, operating on less sleep than usual. I'm sure his voice is a bit strained.
Nah. There was a video almost a year ago where jomboy said "what's up with my voice? Anyway..." and it's been scratchy ever since. I told him in the comments to get a speech therapist, because he speaks unhealthily and his job is his voice. Jimmy uses his throat muscles to force the vocal cords together instead of using breath pressure and resonance. Lots of people do not speak in a healthy way, but they're not speaking into a mic 10 hours a day every day for years. He's on his way to nodules
Just found this channel. Hiiiiiii-larious! You are a misguided Yankee fan, of course, but in my culture, that can be forgiven when the humor is well placed.
"It's a weird thing I do that I wish I didn't do..." You are hilarious! Can't wait for tomorrow! Although I'm an LA fan, I just want to see good baseball.
The catcher was clearly setting up outside. They were prepared to walk him rather than pitch in the zone. He just missed his spot, made a bad pitch, and Stanton made him pay.
This reminds me of the peak Hideki Matsui days. When teams would bring Lefties in just to face him. I used to love it because Matsui raked against left handed pitchers.
His laugh made the clip. I had to watch if over and over it made me laugh so hard watching his reaction. They both knew if they ball was in the zone Stanton was going to crush it.
Can someone explain the 2-2 change up high in the zone on Stanton in game 5? Why would ever want to throw a changeup high, especially in that situation to that hitter? Pitched through high school and never once was I signaled for a changeup to be above the belt
Been watching Jomboy for years and this is the coolest breakdown I've seen yet. Never ever ever have I seen the whole concept of hitting the strike zone flipped on its head like this. Jake's cackle laugh at the end is the icing on top
With how the skill gap just keeps rising for athletes generation after generation (i.e seeing players from today would absolutely blow the minds of a team from 50 years ago) will we get to a point where every batter in any given lineup is so lethal that walking someone to get a better matchup just becomes a thing of the past? Will there come a time when future pitchers wont be able to make that risk reward calculation anymore?
I don't think so, cause pitchers are also super lethal these days. You can see the level of pitching has also been rising, and so far has exceeded the hitters. Look how many strikeouts there are in a game these days. And all the .250 hitters which used to be considered mediocre
I like that you shfited from Yankees fan to baseball fan in this sequence. Do you think it was an absolute mistake pitch, or was he trying to be cute and put it just on edge of the strike zone and was off? The glove was set up well off the plate, with the catcher likely assuming that Stanton might chase, making up his mind before the pitch was started to swing.
I was playing The Show online. and it was bottom 8th and I was down 2 with basses loaded, the person I'm playing against has a 2-0 count. and I knew he didn't want to walk giancarlo, and next pitch I got a grandslam off him.
Jimmy actually read that at bat like a book. It was insane to watch live. I couldn’t believe it.
Fr the livestream is great
Giancarlo is the most Yankee-looking Yankee to ever Yankee
He Yankee’d all over home plate
If Babe Ruth found a way to reincarnate himself into new versions of himself he reincarnated into Stanton, Judge, and Soto.
I Yankee this message.
Tommy kahnle takes the cake imo. looks straight out of the 50s with his monotone accessories, all black cleats, and square looking face.
That’s because Aaron Judge is a majestic Unicorn.
Jomboy literally is the only reason I watch baseball. I never knew how intricate this game was until I found this channel years ago. I get it now.
So does that mean ur a fan now?
Same, it seemed like luck and bad pitchers to me before Jomboy came along. Now im a fan!

Trevor Bauer's UA-cam channel is also good if you like this sort of pitching battle strategy, from the pitcher's perspective.

#1 highlight of Jomboy's videos this year so far
As a guardians fan i was screaming for them to walk him every single time he got up to bat. Absolutely owned us.

Like we were screaming for Torre to hit Ortiz in ‘04

Yankees can buy a world series whenever they want. They spent 3 times more than Cleveland did. MLB needs a salary cap.
I'm sorry Nick, we can't hear you over the sound of waaaaaaahhhhhh

So educational. I'm astonished at NY's willingness to load the bases in the ALCS just to get matchups. Now that's confidence. "Dey got stones."
