- On this episode of Make It Kustom, we take a little day trip, through devastating forest fires, all the way to Rust Valley to visit Mike and the boys at Rust Bros, in Tappen B.C. Mike couldn't resist buying YET ANOTHER Mopar and he had to have my rare 1941 Chrysler Windsor 3 window coupe. I also lend out my personal planishing hammers to help them to get a Volkswagon project finished!

On a more serious note, it is heartbreaking after seeing major bushfire damage. We had shocking ones 2 years ago in Australia.

We had a nasty fire season this year in north Idaho . The nearest one to me was along a long steep section that let loose and closed the major road to Montana in July and it's still not open yet. Nobody killed in the fires so can't complain too much.
@@OldGriz708 glad to hear no lives where lost, but wow, a major road has been closed for 3 months.
Trees are very resilient. If they are still standing, there is a big chance they will have survived the fires and will go green again. Can't say the same for the wild life... Those get hit a lot worst in these wild fires...
Yeah this is true the poor wildlife it’s pretty sad
Actually once the fire has gone out and fire mitigation crews come around they told friends of mine (in colorado) that if its 50% burnt it has less than 30% survival however it jumps up to a 70% survivability rate at only 45% burnt.

That fire damage is horrendous! Not too many years back, I gassed up at that same Chevron in Hope before heading up the Coquihalla on a drive to Alaska...... In a Honda Del Sol SIR. What an epic journey and what a beautiful place you live in!

I live in Trail and during that forest fire season I couldn't see 2 blocks due to the smoke.That lasted for a couple weeks.

the fires don't mess around. the 2019-2020 black summer fires in Australia got within 8km/5miles from my house and it was the scariest week of my life.

Definately a full day ! We drove up the Coq at the end of July and it was crazy . Beautiful blue skys then thick smoke then beautiful blue skys etc etc . Thanks for sharing your day .

I’ve lived next to a forest all my life, it’s always a relief when things start to cool off in the fall and the threat of a fire is no longer a concern. I just finished doing a bunch of work on a 1950 Plymouth, they didn’t change much in 10 years.

Unreal seeing the affects of the fire. I was out west few year's back, flew into Vancouver then stayed in Aborstford up to Hope and Chilawack. Spelling could be off lol. It was great trip beautiful country. Watch your videos alltime pick up a lot of little tricks 👍👍

I checked out your video to see the sale to Rust Bros but stayed for the fire. I'm from So Cal and have driven through a "tunnel of smoke" when there were fires near Lake Arrowhead. I've vacationed in BC and driven from Vancouver to Calgary... Such a beautiful country that you live in and with all of the trees. Unfortunately, fire can be part of the reality. Just a word about the way you strap the car down diagonally, this is potentially dangerous, if one strap breaks (unlikely) then the other strap is then doing nothing, it's best to strap inline with the wheels then if one breaks the direction of pull does not change, I'm not clever, I just watched a YT vid on it last year and it made perfect sense to me.

Went thru Kenai Alaska during their fires and it looked just like that for about an hour out of my 3 hour drive to Anchorage!

Too cool! I grew up in Washington state and I had family in Surrey and Langley. Mike is one of my TV car heroes… another one I’d like to meet someday! I have a friend in Pennsylvania that deals in nothing but Lincoln parts. I’ll see what he’s got. I just sold my 66 coupe but still have a bunch of parts left. Not that those would do you any good, lol. Glad I found your channel!

Yeah dude he totally is a legend. All his cars go for sale pretty soon here. He saw the property they’re all parked on. I walked through and looked at them all he definitely has some real gems but he’s cherry picking the ones he wants to keep and auctioning off the rest
Fires are crazy! My partner and I were stuck in the fires over Christmas 2019 in Australia. The land is starting to bounce back now but it was horrible for months to see the destruction

The fires here in north Idaho were nasty this year. The road between me and Montana has been closed since July 7th and no expected to open before December. There were major rock slides that took out miles of road. I'm sure I'll be sick when it finally does open.
I don't know when this video was filmed but all of Mike's cars are going up for auction on October 2nd with Electric Garage Auctions

Yeah they are all going but not this one he’s obviously cherry picking some cars and the rest of the ones in the field are going to be gone
@@MakeItKustom I kind of figured that's what was happening. The updated auction list on Electric Garage's site still had 530 cars that he has up for auction. That's a heck of a lot of cars to have accumulated over time. It would definitely be cool to say your project car came from Mike Halls field of dreams though. 🍻

Carl (sp?), it's a shame about the forest fires, but I''m afraid that they will only become more common. The ventilation in your cars & trucks, even when on recirculation, is still designed to mix ~10% or so of (so-called) "fresh" air into your cabin air. That's why you breathed/smelled it so much while driving through the smoky areas. I've failed to keep smoke out of my car when driving to work when going past "controlled" burns and wildfires for the same reason.

Yep it sure is! That is confirmed. He did sell the property where the field of dreams is and all those cars are going up for auction but he still has plenty of projects to build but the number is much more realistic now lol!
