Fun to watch you work, Charles. Impressive stuff. Only 55 more subscribers to go for your giveaway! If you have the time, I know our little knife group would love to see a video of you making our Wilderknives, esp. the clay hamon work! Thanks for posting this!
Really cool project! Do you consider 5160 to be the ideal metal for a spear like this? Or do you consider any of the other steels ive seen you work on to be "better"?
Great lookin spearhead. Question for ya. Will the socket now be considered the weak spot because the offset and how it wraps around shaft vs a split shaft and solid tang? I've thought about mskin a Spearhead like yours now for yrs but never pulled the trigger so to speak. God Bless
The cone shape of the socket makes it very strong, it is much stronger than the shaft that it will get mounted on. The area of the spearhead most prone to possible damage will be the point.
At 7:16 you can see how I did it, I move the socket over the edge of the anvil and gently persuade the socket to be centered with the blade. I did a couple strikes like this to get it just where I wanted it but that is the jist.
beautiful black finish! I didn't know an etch could look so good on 5160.
Awesome video and instruction. Best video I've seen on forging a socketed spearhead. Thanks.
Your hat looks super comfy. Thanks for the advice.
bruh your power tools are holding on for dear life XD that press there was about to fall apart XD
That spearhead is absolutely beautiful!
Thank You!
Would much rather hear the ring of steel on the anvil than music.
That's awesome, man! Looks great!
Great stuff man. Glad I found your channel. Keep up the good work

Thanks for the video. Did you forge weld the socket closed? I was very curious to see how you closed it and centered it. Much appreciated!
I had this question too, how did you close the hole?
Very nice point.
Cool! I’m inspired to try one! Thanks!! :)
I love this project!

5160 is a very tough steel so it what I tend to make a lot of swords and rough use blades out of it, and its pretty easy to work with!
woulda used used moter oil for get a black finish like that my self but after temper i usally heat treat good vid tho.
Where do you get your steel
Are these for sale? I want one.
I want one!!
Did you arc weld the seam?
Yes this Customer wanted the gap closed, so it was welded shut prior to normalizing and heat treating!
how do you put it on a stick?
Great lookin spearhead.

Can I buy your products in India?
Are you making a musical?
👍🏼
I want one!
They are available for order on my Etsy!
Pity you didn't show how you did the offset to line up the blade & socket..otherwise nice job..
At 7:16 you can see how I did it, I move the socket over the edge of the anvil and gently persuade the socket to be centered with the blade. I did a couple strikes like this to get it just where I wanted it but that is the jist.
Do you sell your spear heads?
Yes I do!
just want to say there wasn't any tempering shown which means that blade could be very brittle and not truly functional
It was tempered twice at 450 degrees. I usually dont show any tempering vecause its pretty boring
Beautiful
