i heard a rumor that quinn has an army of gremlins locked in his basement working for free, slavery type of work, extra hours, no benefits, doing all the research for him. or was it goblins? something like that.
Producing and presenting this content IS a skill, and Quinn (and his team) are great at it! And it takes a lot of work… try making an in-depth video and you’ll quickly understand
@@easyluckable of course it helps. the study entirely missed the point. flux is for reducing eye strain, not helping improve sleep. you shouldn't be on the computer that late in the first place if you want to sleep better.
If you use nighttime mode on your phone which makes your screen more yellow, you can really notice how our eyes adjust the white balance. Cause after a while you dont even notice that your screen is so much more yellow! Its crazy honestly!
As a photographer, I am calibrating my monitors with calorimeters for years. You do not need opensource for that. Entry level ones are very cheap nowadays. Last gen also has ambient light sensors in it and switches to different modes. Calibrating once is not enough. If the amount of environmental light changes(day/night or sunset etc), a new calibration is needed. (Unless you are working in a no-natural light source ( windowless) room) Ones with an external sensor built in tries to compensate that for a degree by switching modes due to the detected light. (Note: a calibrated display is less appealing to a home user. Home users often are after vibrant colors, higher contrast, higher brightness and exaggerated whites)
Quinn, all of your videos are actually amazing. You cover really unique topics that many others don't, with such a high level of information and amazing videography. Not to mention, you're an audiophile and watch snob, both things I consider positive that I can relate to. Wish I had the money for it though :') One thing I just noticed is you are the ONLY youtube I've watched so far where I can fully zoom in on my iphone xr, and still watch comfortably without being cut off from important info. Super duper appreciated. Keep up the snazzy work.
From the moment you ask "What is colour?" to precisely 4 minutes 33 seconds and 4 frames, I am going to use as an educational tool in my classroom. Honestly, sometimes I think UA-cam is a better teacher than I am because of excellent media content like this - thanks Quinn.
As someone who recently decided it would be 'fun' to learn a bit more about display calibration (still got A LOT to learn), I got to say you did an amazing job simplifying an incredibly complex topic and making it understandable. It definitely helped me make some connections regarding colour that I didn't make previously. Once again, excellent video!
As a professional colorist I found this video very entertaining! Most people don’t understand color gamut and it is the biggest difference between nice and cheap televisions and monitors! Solid very informative video for people who know nothing about calibration and color space!
@@ThinkCMYK hmmmm bad take, the technological stuff for geeks is all apart of helping replicate the director and cinematographers vision. This “geek stuff” is used to elevate story amongst many other parts of production. 😂
Great video, the pre handmade factory calibration was a bit off because the color and light of the room is important too, calibrating makes it perfect for your room.
As a colour blind person I very rarely tell the difference between calibration settings. I just kind of want someone to tell me "its good, you're not missing out on anything" and trust them.
I only tend to notice these things when it’s REALLY egregious, like being unable to see anything in the GoT season 8 episode. Apart from that, it all blends together.
Your videos are second to none. I actually learn something when watching your videos, which is appreciated lol. A lot of tech channels are just mindless product spec and feature rehashes, which are basically just advertisements, even if the "reviewer" isn't paid.
This was such a technical and detailed video, that I had to literally pause and rewatch multiple times to understand. Can’t imagine the kind of research and effort that went into producing this. Superb work.
I usually just leave my picture settings I’m cinema/standard, and the LG tv automatically switches to ‘Game’ when I turn the Xbox on. However I did notice I had ‘eye strain relief’ on when I hunted deeper into the picture settings, I’ve turned that off and it’s made a huge difference to the picture, so thanks.
The writing in this video is fantastic. I appreciate how well he can translate technical jargon into meaningful concepts and then get to the point quickly. Thank you for respecting the audience! On a side note, how can we convince him to create more audiophile videos? This topic really needs a youtube champion and Quinn would be the perfect person for the job. He is already an audiophile and he would be filling the quality void that currently exists in this space. @Quinn don't let your audiophile knowledge and recommendations go unshared!
GOD your videos are fantastic. You give us SO much more than the titles suggest - you’re the opposite of every other big UA-camr! Love every video, every time :)
if leds in your tv or phone screens are made out of 3 subpixels or leds, Red green and blue, does that mean if you only display lets say red, that the red image is less detailed than a white image? Or is it just too small to notice a difference in detail?
The principal for this theory is really cool - not going to lie! Can you also use an iPhone in the same way to calibrate the screen of your Mac? If not, sure that would be a great feature that Apple should definitely add!

Graphic designers: (Angry noises)
I once edited the perfect picture with flux on haha, now it's disabled for all graphic programs
