I just added some to this batch so not very long :) I like that sol soils has it but I don’t like the coco husk so figured I would try leca out in mine. I think I like having some in the mix now ☺️
@@plantsbymelissa ty, I have tried it on a few plants up till now. It certainly doesn’t hurt and I like the presumed concept of positive wicking. It certainly compliments your desire for ‘chunky mix’ which you have convinced me of as well
I feel that charcoal is the same as horticultural charcoal. But that’s just my anecdotal opinion. When you say regular charcoal. I hope you’re not referring to charcoal briquettes. The ones used in grills. lol Don’t use those
Hi Melissa 👋 Good Evening I saw you used shredded charcoal in the potting mix. I wanted to know your experience if it didn't hurt your plant! I heard fine charcoal shouldn't be used in soil mix. Please clear the air about it😊. Thanx in advance Angel
Do you rinse the LECA before adding it, and what is the percentages would you use for Black Velvet Alocasia and an Imperial Red Philodendron? I've been using your other formula. It looks like 10% bark and 10% LECA instead of the 20% bark
I’m not sure if I’m supposed to but I didn’t I just added it. I like the sol soils mix and they use leca in theirs but I don’t like the coco husks. I’m not really strict on percentages but I made this batch a little less chunky to see how it does in my plant room this summer with some plants. Everything dries really quickly in there 😊
Hi from London England UK, Can I use thus soil mix for all my house plants. or balcony plants? I'm total gardening beginner. I just discovered your videos today. ❤🇬🇧
I'm not sure whether or not you found your answer, but Drea with Aloha Plants has a detailed video on soil mixes for species groups. ua-cam.com/video/k9B8jNsYzjw/v-deo.htmlsi=yGSve12ARYB6SFyT
When and Why did you decide to add LECA to your favorite soil mix? Thank you for all the effort you expend for our benefit 😊

Leca also soaks up excess moisture, so it's actually pretty practical in preventing root rot

@@plantsbymelissamay I ask why you don't like coco coir?
What are your usual percentages?
Soil base, is that the commercial potting mix? Potting mix vs indoor potting mix?
What about the charcoal?is it regular charcoal or must be horticultural charcoal? I'm confused about this

Which brand soil do you use?
I guess no answer for you 😂
Where do you get these supplies. I dont see them at my garden enters.
You still recommend mixing in leca?
Wat the mix percentages u use
is this good for succulents and cacti?
For those I usually buy a premade cactus mix. You can still use this mix too but sometimes I like the soil to be a little more gritty or aerated
Could I add orchid bark for a Cannibus plant ??
Where do you purchase these things? Ty
On Amazon :) here’s a link to the mixes www.amazon.com/shop/plantsbymelissa/list/B6F3YIOPBQAN?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_m

Thank you! Is it suitable for all plants or only specific?
I use this for my indoor plants! Sometimes I add a little more perlite or orchid bark depending on the plant but it’s a great mix! ☺️
@@plantsbymelissa thank you will do that from now 😊🪴
