    I run 3f straight across the board. No need to carry extra equipment. It works as well as 4f. If you get a little fouling around the pan it won't leak out like 4f. I love my lyman, have been shooting it for 30 years this year and haven't even looked at another muzzleloader for purchase. Love your videos. They have great practical information.

    Didnt get a chance to watch this on Sunday as Im on the road back to the house. Great video. I know you like the null B from watching you. I have only used Goex 4fg and havent had any issues. I havent got to shoot any BP for four months and been wanting to get back out. But I have got enjoyment from watching you have fun.

      4 months? WOW, you must be getting that dreaded disease called BP Syndromitis...LOL Thanks for watching & now its time for you to get to there & burn some powder.

    I always use a priming wire (vent pick) before every shot in my flinters. And I use 1f for the priming powder in my Fusil.

    These are so much fun. I've gotta admit the first time you did an upside down shooting video, I didn't think it would work. I figured the powder would just spill out as soon as it opened up. Or I thought all the power laying in the top of the pan wouldn't set off the charge. Anyway thanks for sharing these fun and educational videos for when I do finally get into this. Well I'm off to church I hope you and Mrs. BPMS have a very blessed day.

      These are fun to try. If the lock is working OK, most of them should shot upside down. I'm off to church also. Have a blessed day...

    My range where I go isn't flooded like that, but it's so muddy that by the time you walk to the 25 yard line you wish you had hip waders. If you go early enough on a couple mornings when it's still in the 30's, when it's rock hard. Waiting for it to warm up but it's supposed to rain three days this week, I've got some BP shooting to do with a couple different guns.

    Awsome video, I got some actual BP, 3f schuetzen today. I messed up target, shot placement for scoring. I got 13 shots in scoring placement. 5,6, out of scoring zone on targets. First time out shooting free hand. So I'm happy with. Placement

    Hi Mark, good video! A flintlock that fires when upside down is a good flintlock. Black powder is hygroscopic where on very humid days Nul B and f4 powder can turn to wet mush. On very humid days I use a courser grain black powder in my pan.

    • @blackpowdermaniacshooter
      @blackpowdermaniacshooter  2 роки тому

      Yep, I do that too. I had to switch to 3F during the past New Year's Day event. It rained most of the day.

    I have found that most slow ignition issues were caused by too much powder in the pan...and yes a touch-hole pick is your friend. I usually have it in there as I charge the barrel.....I got that idea from an old book I read many years ago which was written in the late 18th century when flintlocks was all they had. They knew how to run them then....

    Mark, I can’t recall you ever using Goex powder. Do you have a reason for not using it?

    • @krockpotbroccoli65
      @krockpotbroccoli65 2 роки тому

      Goex is not exactly available at the moment. The plant caught fire, hodgdon sold it to Estes and they won't be resuming production for a good while. And it's still unknown whether or not they'll be doing commercial sales even when the plant is back up and running.

    • @blackpowdermaniacshooter
      @blackpowdermaniacshooter  2 роки тому

      Yes, there is a reason. I prefer the Schuetzen & Swiss because its easier to clean the guns afterwards. I spend 4-5 minutes cleaning each gun. When I used Goex, it took twice as long to clean. I still have 4-5 pounds of Goex in 3 & 4F, but haven't used it for 3-4 years now.

    Mark, I'm ready ti get my first smooth bore flintlock. Could you recommend an inexpensive model for a first gun and where to get it? I'm kinda on a budget.

    • @blackpowdermaniacshooter
      @blackpowdermaniacshooter  2 роки тому

      That's tough. Not sure what your idea of inexpensive is....but, a new Pedersoli smoothbore runs in the $1200 range. Occasionally you can find one on a blackpowder forum for a little less, but, used ones are still in the $700-$900 range. I picked mine up from Dixon's Muzzleloading shop in Pennsylvania. Try calling them & see if they have one available. Try gun broker & see if something is available there and put the word to other BP friends/shooters & see what's available.

    • @scottschaffer5905

      Thanks Marc. That's the price range I hoped to be in. Will look for a used smoke pole. Unfortunately here in MD where I live there is not a huge interest in black powder.
