You also need to advise ppl who eat it in recipes to drink plenty fluids afterwards as I'm currently off keto because of having this and flaxseed powder in my keto recipes everyday... i was in agony for 3 days I think it must have solidified or caused a blockage on my intestines... I would advise using it sparingly or then not everyday. I think if it is hydrated first before cooking may reduce that risk.
Loved this video. Demystifying all these crazy kooky ingredients - thanks! A few Qs though: Your best ever keto bread uses flaxseed powder, which also turns gelatinous in liquid. Could you swap it with psyllium and would you get the same results? Are psyllium and flaxseed pretty much the same thing in terms of cooking and health benefits? Your best ever keto bread uses vital gluten, I'm assuming to bind everything together; why not just use psyllium husks instead and avoid gluten altogether? Lastly, love the scales! What brand are they? Ive bought all the ingredients for that bread just last night, and I'll report my results as soon as I've made it. Cant wait :)
I mix psyllium with carob, cacoa, chia seeds, flaxseed, nutritional yeast, hemp hearts raisins, water and then I put some Greek yogurt on top. A yummy treat packed with fiber.
I've known for decades about psyllium as a fiber supplement, but had no idea of the properties pertaining to baking. Wish I'd known this about 25 years ago, I had a few years that I had some food allergies (over them, now, thanks to strict avoidance and natural treatment for 4 years) and it would have made wheat-egg-and-dairy free baking a lot easier. Will still come in handy when I cook for others with food issues, plus my own reduced carb needs.
+jbeargrr Yeah, it is a massive help with low carb baking. It helps get close to the bread or sponge like texture in many recipes. Well at least you know now and can use it to help in your low carb efforts! Thanks for the comment!

Thank you! Quite crazy the difference it makes - imagine this on a larger scale and how it can affect the quantities you are using. And yes, that is exactly why I always recommend food scales! Thanks for the comment!
Yeah, I wish more was using scales. When you are not from USA most of the meassurements makes no sense (because they doesn't) and the rest of the world has managed to agree on something that does give a whole lot of sense. Most scales however, do have a little tap where you can switch from grams to oz, so that is at least doable. There is so many things that I would never think of measuring in volume (about anything that isnt fluid) and its like all amreican recipes is cups of different sizes and it all confuses me :)
+Krydolph I agree, it's all a mess. I never know what measurements to use and I try include as many measurements as possible (input them in the description box of each video) so everyone can find a measurement useful to them.
Great video!! I just started using Psyllium Husks. It has been a great addition to my ketogenic diet. Thank you for making this very informative video. Very well done.
Add the right spices and some stevia, coconut sugar or xylitol and you got a nice pudding! You can do the same with chia seeds. Wonderful pudding alternatives.
You need to drink a glass of water or juice straight after you took the husk because it swells up so much. Plus it also helps to bind you up after a bout of diarrhoea
Psyllium Husk is very inexpensive to buy at any Indian grocery store . Since it's all fiber,It has been used in India for centuries for problems like Constipation. It's called ISBAGOL.
I found the easiest way for me to take psyllium husks is to pop a teaspoon full of dry husks into my mouth and quickly swallow it down with water -- after a swirl or two. I make sure to stop breathing when I put it in my mouth because I don't want any to get into my lungs. That way I also avoid any sweetener.
This stuff is fantastic.. An Ex of mine suffered from Colitis real bad, going to the toilet was err.. hard. I got her to drink water with Psyllium husk with two of her meals & everything was soft soft soft... This stuff is magic for gut and colon health & make my keto breads & cakes have a wheat like texture. I'm making your Keto Blueberry muffins with it right now.. Cheers Keto King..
+WeZ Thanks for the great feedback. Yeah, it does have a lot of great uses. And you are gonna love those blueberry muffins! Let me know how you enjoy them!
Thank you so much for this video. I just had the unfortunate circumstance of making a Naan bread recipe I was very much looking forward to & had done much research of many Keto recipes. No one mentioned there was a difference in the pure husks & the powder I bought Psyllium Husk Powder-not knowing. Needless to say my bread turned out a very ugly blue gray/purple! It also did not taste like good Naan bread. So everyone should be very careful. None of the recipes mentioned the difference! Thank you! I had to toss my bread & looks like I will have to toss the Psyllium powder too!
Xanthan gum is slimy when used in cooking! I find the same with psyllium husk. I tried vital wheat glutin, I am not gluten intolerant! Got the same slimy texture.
According to what I read, if you bake it, you won't get the same digestive benefits. So not sure if it's going to be actually keto friendly if you bake it because you will be absorbing carbs?
So I understand that you cannot interchange whole psyllium husk and powder in recipes because they "measure" differently when using cups measurements. However, what if I interchange them via gram measure and not cups measure. Like, I would sub 20g of whole husks to 20g of powder husk? What difference in my baked product's texture and taste would that make? I have been researching about this, but no one is saying anything about the taste and texture.
Question...Is Psyllium Husk the same as Psyllium Hydrophilic Mucilloid? I found some Psyllium powder at my local Kroger and that is the only ingredient in it. I just wanted to make sure it was the same thing. It was expensive and if it's not I'm taking it back. Thanks.
+SuperTamigirl Hi there. First off, I'm not 100% sure. But from my reading, this is what I can tell: The term mucilage describes a group of clear, colorless, gelling agents derived from plants. The mucilage obtained from psyllium comes from the seed coat (the husk). Mucilage is obtained by grinding the outer seed (husk). Hydrophilic simply means that its molecular structure causes it to attract and bind to water. So I would say that it IS the same as psyllium husks. The only problem is whether the psyllium hydrophilic mucilloid is ground up psyllium husk (psyllium husk powder) or while psyllium husk. I think it may be ground, but you can try determine that by looking at the product. If it's while, if you look closely, you should see the whole husk (the outer coating of the seed).
Hey thanks for your quick response. I decided to take the Psyllium powder back to Krogers and found some Psyllium husks at Whole Foods. I am looking forward to trying out your bread recipes. Thanks Again.
Every time I give a like in your videos even before watching them. Love, love your recipes, so clear explained, and your kindness to work hard in order to detail everything by writing a very useful text that is the perfect complement to your videos. Tank you so much!

Thanks it is about time someone informing people how to make good yeast bread so they can enjoy.I was a baker I have good knowledge about psyllium baking gravy and ketones ice cream
I made some naan bread with coconut flour and Psyllium husk fibers and believe me, I had multiple trips to the toilet for the next few days after eating them!! So if you guys have a bowel movement problem, make some coconut/psyllium husk naan bread and things will happen!!!
Very informative. I just wonder if the whole psyllium seeds can be used instead of its husk, or if it's not keto, by grinding them into powder. Basically, getting the seeds, using a grinder, using that instead of the husk in making keto baked goods. Sorry for my english.
Mr Keto King, what is the best time to take one tsp of the psyllium husk and preferably on an empty stomach? Secondly, I believe you need to drink a lot of water after drinking the psyllium husk throughout the day. Thirdly, if taking more than one tsp would it cause bowel run? Your advice is much appreciated.
Keto King, I am trying to incorporate more flaxseed into my keto diet. Does it have the same properties that psyllium husks does? Just trying to up my omega 3 intake. So could I substitute ground flaxseed for psyllium or no? Thanks a million!!!
The psyllium husk is ALL fiber, because it doesn’t include the seed (only the husk). Flax seeds have fat in them, as all seeds do-thus why we can get flaxseed oil from them.
Does psyllium husk need to be organic? Do we need to worry about mico toxins and lechtins causing leaky gut aggravation? Is it non gmo? Does it cause insulin spikes?
It does not cause insulin spikes - in fact, it helps reduce insulin spikes in the presence of carbohydrates. Organic or not is a personal choice, although I'm not sure I've even seen an organic option out there. I personally have not had any issues using psyllium husk.
I literally almost eat a psyllium husk Pudding ever single day I mix it with half water and half soy milk and add coconut flakes and coconut milk and it is aaaaahmazing
Would the jelly gelatin like derived from flax seed have same characteristics? The reason I ask is that we do not have psy husk here in Peru. Thank you
Using this makes me look like I'm 9 months pregnant. I use chia seeds, hemp heart and flax seeds which are so nutritious, and so much healthier than this.
Also... I get my husk from tablets.... you can get that, I really find the gooey water icy and I don't like it. so a few capsules makes wonder for my stomach. Fun fact though, it is often marketed for constipation, I have the opposite problem, I get diarrhea when I don't get enough fiber. Going on keto I had it non stop for 2 weeks until I started with the husk, before I would just eat some good ryebread with lots of grains, but that is off limits now, so happy to have discovered husk instead.
Yes, I can definitely see how capsules would be a 'tastier' option. Interesting about it's effect on your gut health - getting enough fiber in your diet is key for gut health!
How much should you have per day to keep things moving like once a day or twice??? Also I. On pain meds so I was thinking like 2x a day to start??? What dies anyone else can tell me
A lot of people on hear having bowel issues, fibre deficiency is a killer with rates of colorectal cancer and diverticulitis on the rise. Both are linked lack of fibre in the diet. Fibre doesn’t provide direct nutrition but it does provide a food source for friendly bacteria in the gut which thank us by making enzymes like propionate which has anti cancer effects in the body. This is from new data released from the gut project which is a citizen science project to study the gut microbiome they have looked at over 10000 people so far and are now getting really good data. They also found worryingly traces of antibiotics in people’s guts who haven’t taken any in years and that is coming from the meat that they eat due to intensive farming practices and they think this Macrodosing is giving rise to antibiotic resistant bacteria. This is why eating clean is so important. Stay healthy and keep following the science.
I don't know Nida. I'm not a doctor, so I really can't advise on this. I'd also recommend asking your doctor before trying anything. However, from my reading online, it seems psyllium may possibly relieve abdominal pain and discomfort for those with IBS. I'd suggest you do research online on psyllium and IBS - it may help guide your decision and your discussion with your doctor.
Question: Can I have a psyllium drink while I'm fasting or will it cause my body to break it's fast? I usually take it first thing in the a.m. on an empty stomach but, I have incorporated Inter. Fasting into my regime and don't want to break my fast in the a.m. I'm unsure of it effects on the body in this regard. Please help. Thanks!
Would you recommend buying whole psyllium husk and then powdering it yourself for recipes that call for powdered? Also, would buying powdered need to be be refrigerated? Thanks!
Many recipes using psyllium that I have come across do not specify if I should grind the husks or leave them whole. Can I leave it unground, or should I plan on doing the recipe twice to decide? And is it healthier (as in, more "effective") to grind it? On that note, I wonder if it will give any IBS- suffering family members digestive discomfort one way more than the other?? Thanks!
Usually if they don't say, it is whole psyllium husk. Most use whole psyllium husk. Only grind your psyllium husk to make powered version when it specifically calls for powdered psyllium husk.
Thanks for the reply!! Great! Now, as I develop my own recipes, is there any reason (besides the resulting purple color) that would make me want to choose one over the other, ground vs whole?
Good question. I'd stick with whole psyllium husk. 98% of recipes use whole. Not sure how the ground differently affects the food but I avoid it due to the risk of purple tinge to food.
Have you ever done a bread recipe that is left to ferment? I had a bread recipe that used yeast and sat for 24 hours which made a wonderful fermentation that was not a sourdough. I mean as eating this bread. Was wondering if you had a sub?
Just starting the Keto diet and want to make this bread but I have Crohn's and you stated this product can act like a laxative which I definitely don't need, any insight on this?
Look, I'm not a doctor so I have no knowledge about Crohn's. The psyllium husk used in bread is spread out between each slice, so you're not really having a lot of psyllium with each slice. But please check with your doctor before deciding to do anything.
Try some of the bread recipes I have on my channel - they are much nicer than what you describe. You can find them here:ua-cam.com/play/PLDyX11ndvEMtCmbxc3z76oz3hxv36kKrs.html
I take 9 grams of whole psyllium husk in 2 cups of water daily, as a fiber supplement (it's very important to drink enough water or it could block you up). I also use it in my keto meatloaf and meatballs. I''ve been using the NOW brand for several years because I get a good deal on it at Bulk Apothecary & I'm very happy with it :)
+AD LIGHTWORKER That's great. It really is a fantastic product with all of its uses. Glad you found a place to buy it from. Some people can't find it locally.
Hello Keto King! If a bread recipe I want to try calls for 4 teaspoons (15 g) psyllium husk powder, how much whole psyllium husk should I use? Thank you!
Try just before eating a meal. But really anytime will do. Just ensure you drink enough liquid throughout the day and particularly around the time you have the psyllium.
Psyllium Husk has many health benefits including weight loss. We just uploaded a video on our channel on how to use it for weight loss and other potential health benefits.
Thanks for this information. I have the laxative(which i never use) and have a vitamix. Now I know I can use it after I turn it into powder for my keto bread. Please make more of these videos.

+MsAnna47 a lot of the pudding recipes I have on the channel use some psyllium husk. It's a really handy ingredient!
Coconut sugar would make the dish non-keto. How about erythritol or monk-fruit sweetener?
Torres9 Nothing really? It’s a plant.

The problem with me is not what is it but where is it I've hunted and hunted for local Outlet to purchase it.
Thank you for making this video it's so informative. I feel like I know everything about psyllium husk now

Krydolph tablets usually have additives snd preservatives. So if you choose this option read the label and make sure those are safe.
Also capsules run the risk of bowel blockage if not enough fluids are drunk with them and afterwards.
I read you shouldn't take psyllium husk long term.. more than 7 days as it can have effects on your intestines. Is this true??
How much should you have per day to keep things moving like once a day or twice??? Also I. On pain meds so I was thinking like 2x a day to start??? What dies anyone else can tell me
Does this and other fibers really help to suppress appetite any experiences
Can you use it to thicken "gravy"? Guar gum just doesn't cut for me.
I don't like it to thicken sauces or gravy as it binds the contents together. It makes it more gelatinous than thick.
Use almond flour as thickening agent.
Thanks, @@Lulu-vi4wb. Will try that.
Eat sardine...the safest meat..the rest are too contaminated..
I have a question I suffer from IBS Can I still consume it? Thanks 🙏 again
Thanks!
It is insoluble fiber so I don't believe it will break your fast. But I really am not sure.
This is also an old thing in Hungary.
It lowers bad cholesterol right
I was given Psyllium Husk orange flavor. Can this be used for cooking something?
No, it wouldn't taste good used for cooking.
Not able to get recipe book, error message when clicked submit in the above link
I'm going to look into this and get back to you. In the mean time, email me on the.keto.king.official@gmail.com and I'll make sure you get a copy.
Thanks for your video's. You are so informative and I really learn a lot from you!
+Janice Helton Aww, thanks Janice! I really appreciate the kind words!
When is the most beneficial time of day to take psyllium? Would it keep you up at night or does it create gassiness?
Hi @Siobhän Popello I would take it in the morning and afternoon!
Would you recommend buying whole psyllium husk and then powdering it yourself for recipes that call for powdered? Also, would buying powdered need to be be refrigerated? Thanks!
Yes!! Definitely! I don't think powdered would need to be refrigerated.
5 grams can be taken daily????
Can you add a spoonful with breakfast cereal?
Was ist das ? Wie sol das heilen und was?
Can we use this instead of eggs in our recipes
Love the video. If we have flax can we use that if ground into powder as a replacement to psyllium?
Have you ever done a bread recipe that is left to ferment? I had a bread recipe that used yeast and sat for 24 hours which made a wonderful fermentation that was not a sourdough. I mean as eating this bread. Was wondering if you had a sub?
+Laura Swink No, haven't done one like that. Sounds interesting though!
What about metamucil it has psyllium husk
I used it with almond flour to make bread...The bread was like a rubber and the taste was bad...I think all that because the psyllium husk.
The Keto King (a.k.a The Banting Boss) that was a good lesson you taught thanks so much
AD LIGHTWORKER. Is it ok eat food right after it? Or how long should we wait before eating next meal!?
Hard to find it
Hello Keto King! If a bread recipe I want to try calls for 4 teaspoons (15 g) psyllium husk powder, how much whole psyllium husk should I use? Thank you!
If it calls for powdered psyllium husk, simply put your whole psyllium husk in a blender briefly, and then you will have powdered psyllium husk.
@@TheKetoKingOfficial Many thanks!
Why is there no audio
i can't find it in Italy
Is it ok to eat food right after it or how long one should wait before eating the next meal!?
Thanks for the video! Was wondering what part of the day it is better to drink it, with meals or between meals. I suffer from constant constipation.
