Hi , Randy your Canadian follower, had mine for 6years now. Wasn't happy how my schwinteck slide was working. 1 Reinforced side brackets had only 1 bracket per side weak now has 3 with 3 screws in each one.2 lubricated blocks as per swchintec with special lube.3 took a tube and filled a tube with canola oil and blew with air gun and lubed rollers on my big slide with 5 rollers.3 Ran slide in and out oil got on plywood under slides in and out 150% better. Opened and closed my slide 42 times last year and always sync motors .Works like a dream now... maybe it's the answer to problem??? Time will tell.
Appreciate you sharing the fix. When we take out the broken components, I plan to see where the failure occurred and if there’s a weak area to reinforce. Hope all’s well in Canada.
Jerry, I love your attitude and overall joyful outlook. You’ve helped me a couple of times with some great advice and pointing me in the right direction on a couple of products. Wish you and Joan all the best and look forward to your upcoming videos whenever you are able to get them out.
I sent my donation to Samaritan’s purse. Glad you are well! So sorry about your RV. I pray it is soon fixed and you’ll be back on your road. I enjoy your videos because you keep them family friendly!
Best of luck on the repairs! We pick up our new Brinkley today & will be researching larger size Lifepo4 batteries to replace our 5 year old two 100AH BB's that we are bringing over from our Imagine. The 2 would be okay for Harvest Host, but for next year's Camp Hosting we will be looking for a 400-600 AH solution without killing our cargo capacity. We still are seeking mounting solutions. I have a diamond plate two Group-27 aluminum box, at 10.5 inches deep a few 400AH battery brands might fit if I screw that box down in the front 5W battery compartment. That compartment is indirectly heated as the main storage has a heater vent, so will be testing that too. We added a 2nd 370W solar panel, but it doesn't come in for 72 hours yet. However as two 63 year olds with sciatica, by the time our punch list is over & our stuff moved over, I am guessing the solar will be here, lol. Cheers & best of luck on the repairs. Hi Jerry, I'm a DIY rv person. Thanks for the schwintek infor I agree bad design. I have your vevor fridge, love it. I have Rockwood fifth wheel for three years, and there are no major issues
First off, thank heaven you and Joan are ok. Jerry, I'm so sorry about the slide. I've dealt with that type of slide myself. They really do need just to go away. God bless!
So glad to see this vid. You've been on my mind wondering if you guys were ok. I know one thing of concern that people will need to be aware of is to be careful when buying RVs because lots of flooded RVs will be on the market and sold as flood free. People will need tips on how to spot one and avoid a disaster purchase.
Sorry for your problems. We will miss you. You are correct about Samaritans Purse, we live in North Carolina and thankfully we are east of all the damage. One of our most favorite campgrounds near Marion NC was completely devastated. Mountain Stream RV Park was a unique gem. Take care and all will be better for y'all.
Hi, Jerry. I love Samaritans Purse also. I've donated twice to them to help with the hurricane victims. I have a brother that lives just South of Savannah GA. I pray for everyone that was affected. My heart goes out to them.
I’m just so sorry for this huge bump in the road. I admire and respect your heart felt acknowledgment of all the devastating impact and loss to so many people across the states from the damaging storms. Please don’t worry about “Us” your faithful friends and followers, we aren’t going anywhere without you guys. Take your time and most importantly, take good care of each other in this little bit of “down time”. We love you guys and appreciate all you do to help this large camping community. You have helped so many of us learn how to repair, replace and relax. Thank you both for all you do🙏🏻 . I’m always looking forward for your next video no matter what it’s about! ♥️🙏🏻
Thanks so much for the kind words! We’ll get a little extra grand baby time (although the high school bunch are hard to catch!) It will be a few months and look forward to sharing. In the meantime, we’ll have a few RV related reviews to share. Not as fun, but hopefully we’ll share some things that will be helpful.
I’m sorry for the problems you are having. Thank you for suggesting Samaritans Purse. They are a great organization to support!! I will miss seeing your Fall videos, but thank you for all the work that you do to allow us to travel with you and Joan!!
The solar for daughter’s RV will happen as soon as I can get access to the camper. In a few weeks, I’m upgrading the solar on the Montana - more panels, wring upgrade and a new solar charger. Midsized task, but should be informative.
Jerry,we are looking to come Ga in Oct or Nov.We would probably be looking at closer to Florida state line side,if possible. We love state parks and recommendations on where to stay. So sorry to hear about your rv issues. So glad we got to meet you ,2 years ago at Tampa Rv show.
Great meeting you all too. Check those spots along the FL GA line. Helene made a mess of that area too. Just not getting much press. Reports of over $1B in crop damage. Some of the state parks are closed and large scale tree damage.
Keep your chin up. I think you will be able to come with content to video. If you are able to record the replacement of the slide system repair, I would be interested. Also, I'm glad you guys are well.
Thanks. It’s a big job. I too think it would be interesting. We’ll have a few things to show if some of the product vendors come through. Working on one for this weekend that’s going to be a dilly.
Well know issue. Manufacturers put these systems on load bearing areas which clearly exceed the design limits. I hate to hear about your issues but so glad you are ok. We were in Florida and left actually left early because of the hurricane. Coming up I95 through Georgia there was just so much damage. We live in the mountains of southern WV and lost power for 6 days. Many trees down and major flooding on the New River but faired much better than NC and TN. Stay safe.
So sorry to hear about your Montana. Our first two years of ownership of our 2020 3781 RL, was very stressful. From central furnace issues , to slide motors , slide modules. And the major problem was frame failer. Or frame flex. I wanted to get rid of it. However, the last year and half has been great. Hope you get your repairs done quickly .
@@iLoveRVlife - it was. I will say that Keystone stepped up and took care of us. Have you called keystone ? You maybe under warranty. When I used a mobile tech , I had to pay the tech, submitted a bill to Keystone, and they reimbursed me.
So glad you guys are safe! Our neighbors seem to think two direct hits must be our fault since we have had one each year of our residency. Our rig and home have sustained very little damage. The back 1/3 acre looks like God was playing Pick Up Sticks with the trees. What a blessing!
Another reason I finally ditched my RV, I was constantly fixing things and spending a lot of money. For the money I was spending for gas, maintenance, campgrounds, insurance, etc., I could do a couple of trips to Europe, and the food is way better. We still do trips to the mountains in hotels. It just gives us more options not feeling we need to use the RV since we paid so much for it. We had 32ft Class C we bought new with cash. Used it 5yrs. In those 5yrs we did from Key Largo to Acadia. It was great but the costs and time just made it not worth it. We didn't own a truck and didn't want a truck as a daily driver. That was the reason for the choice of a motor home.
This can be the frustrating side of RV travel. Fortunately we’ve been traveling for over 10 years and we’ve had more years with no issues than the latter.
We LOVE Georgia state parks. So sorry for your troubles. Our 2015 Palomino Solaire needed a Schwintek replaced. Over $4k. Works great now, sounded like yours before the repair. Small in comparison to what many people have been battling for many weeks now. Sounds like you might not buy another Montana?
Agree. The Georgia state parks are very nice. The repair is pricy. Hopefully, things breaking will settle for a while. I share often when something breaks, the structure and overall construction of the Montana has been good. No issues to date. The repairs haven been with those common items we find in many RVs - Coleman 15k BTU AC, Dometic awning motor, and now the evil Schwintek slideout mechanism. If the second party manufacturers would stop making RV products on the cheap, the entire RZ community would benefit.
So grateful our 2013 Montana (and with us in it) got safely through Helene in NW NC (Boone, home of Samaritan's Purse). We were not prepared because no one expected such a momentous storm so 2 weeks with no power was tough on us due to hauling gas for the generator, hauling water, and cutting trees and removing the debris. So sorry to hear of all your issues....we don't have that kind of slide and are trying to avoid it as we are searching for a rig with one and a half baths. We have been unimpressed with newer Montanas....not the quality of construction of our current full time home. Wondering what year and model you have.
Cherry, so sorry to hear that you all were affected by Helene. I saw the impact in Boone and know that had to a big challenge. We have a 2022 3931FB with one and a half baths. Great floor plan, but Keystone dropped it this year. Our issue hasn’t been construction, but parts used that have failed. And these parts are common in most RV made today. I’ll share we had a Heartland Gateway for 8 years and had an awning motor and AC fail in first two years of owning. Be safe. Prays for all of Western Carolina.
This is all part of the journey. We have a 3 month trip planned and I just had Achilles heel surgery and guess how long that recovery is. Yep, more than 3 months and much of it non weight bearing on one leg so no getting around or expediting the process. Then, of course, we just had back to back hurricanes here in Tampa Bay BUT by God’s Grace we were in much better state than most of our neighbors. Meanwhile as I recover I’ll lay here looking at pics and videos of all our travels, and yours, and that will be enough to be grateful for. We keep telling ourselves that all this too will pass and the Sun will come out tomorrow. Could certainly use a little break though. Hugs to y’all.
Get well soon. We too have had unfortunate health issues that rearranged travel a few times. And you’re right, this to will pass. Good to hear you were spared the storm damage. Hoping this settles soon.
Glad to hear you’re OK! I feel for you. We got 3 days into our most recent trip when we started hearing the big kitchen slide make a crunching sound and saw the countertop flex about an inch above the cooktop when we moved it. The next day we couldn’t secure the residential fridge doors with the supplied bolt because the nut between the doors had shifted. Turns out the floor of the slide separated from the walls of the slide. Of course the 3 year structural warranty expired in July. Got it to an authorized service facility and we’re close enough to be able to stay with family. Hoping to work something out with the manufacturer, but not gonna be holding my breath. It looks like that whole thing was just held together with staples. It’s going to be over $1200 in labor alone to make it right. Still waiting for the full estimate of repairs. Thanks for all your great content! Just remember, this will be a great story to tell around the campfire a little further down the road! Have fun, and safe travels!
So sorry to hear of your slide issues. Fortunately ours looks to be parts vs structure. It’s amazing the lack of structure integrity that continues to surface with so many units. I fear the industry isn’t building RVs to handle the growing road hazards.
I feel your pain. $2400.00 to replace one of our Dometic A/C’s $600.00 for the suburban furnace fan then $3500.00 for both of the front schwintek slides .But actually we got each of them repaired fairly quickly when they broke. We did have to set a month in the Shipshewana In. area because of wall separation (it was a known problem) on our Riverstone and got new Schwintek slide’s even though they were only three months old because they covered it under warranty even though was almost three years old. Not Riverstone’s fault they were component failure and the one Riverstone issue was repaired under warranty.
This year was our turn I guess. We never has a slideout issue the first 8 years of travel in our Heartland Gateway. But, we didn’t have Schwintek either. These things are junk. Unfortunately warranty ended in February and the budget is beat up.
Sad about the devastation onthe East Coast. We live Central Valley, California. Yes, I do not like the Schwinn tech system. Mine is, knock on wood still running OK. But if I have any issues, I will change it to the Vroom system. And yes, it is expensive but what you pay to get it fixed every time after two issues you will pay for the new system. Good luck.
Thanks. I wanted to go the Vroom route, but 2024 repairs fell outside our warranty timeframe and the budget is beat up. We traveled for 8 years in our Heartland Gateway and never had a slideout issue. This year we were dealt a bad hand of cards. We’ll be back to RV travel soon.
There is a guy in az that built a different system to replace the siwintec system. Wild rv life was going to have it done but they replaced thr camper.
@@iLoveRVlife he had a metal fab co and a 5the wheel with swenteck. He said to his self theres go to be a better way. He developed it and the puts them in. I’ll have to find him and see what’s available. There a new replacement called Vroom. Everyone who’s replaced Schwintek with these rave about them. With the other repairs this year it’s just outside our budget.
Well talk about a realistic UA-cam channel no sugarcoating your problems. While it’s not what any of us RV’ers want it’s real and that’s all you can record reality. If possible do show us the repairs so we know what to look out for on our rigs. I suppose y’all could travel and stay in campground cabins and yurts and cover that side of camping. Change the name to I Love Campground Cabins. Just a thought. Good luck with everything.
Stuff happens and unfortunately it can happen often in RV travel. Where we travel books quickly in October and doubt we could find a place at the date. We booked our campground a year ago. We have one for next year that we booked 18 month in advance. Finding the popular places go quick.
They put those type of slide mechanisms on even very large slides. They are terrible and I would not purchase an RV with the on anything other then a very small slide.
Two thumbs up for samaritan purse!😊

Well maybe God is telling you to slow down and take a break, we all understand. May God give you both wisdom with dissisions
Thanks.
Will it move ?
Ours made that noise, and I put some dry lube inside by the rollers and all nice and smooth now .
I wish ours was a noisy gears, but something has broke loose in the slide mechanism.
Jerry what Brooklyn bedding mattress did you get for a side sleeper
We have the Signature Series.
@ can you tell me the specs on what you ordered for side sleeping
Soft medium firm Pillow top or not
Measure your existing mattress, then pick that size from the drop down box for the mattress you’ve selected on the rvmattress.com website.
We went with medium. We’re both side sleepers and that has worked out well.
How easy is it to get Keystone to pay for moble service?
They don’t. Warranty ran out in February and the repairs are on me.
Slide outs are easily the weakest point on any RV. Sorry to hear about your issues.
Very much so with Schwintek!
Well at least your frame isn’t failing.
I know right! Saw today there is a Class Action Lawsuit against one of the manufacturers.
They put those type of slide mechanisms on even very large slides. They are terrible and I would not purchase an RV with the on anything other then a very small slide.
So many comments on the poor quality of these slideouts. One has to question why they are used.
