Exceedingly stupid questions! Why buy it if you have a green bin? Isn't that the point of a green bin, to deliver your household compostable waste to a central composite site? What is the point of pre-composting they waste prior to putting it in a green bin?
Couple of reasons. First, it gets rid of the smell. Since it’s quite dry it won’t stink up your bin. Second, it dramatically reduces the volume of the waste. Grass clippings alone can fill up your bin. This allows you to continue to compost with a fraction of the footprint.
