It sounds fantastic I love that guitar sound you got it all toned just right and the licks sound just like the record if not better good job buddy I just learned this on the other day myself
The groove is spot on. Thanks for the nuances about this song. I agree and can hear the 7th is in there when you return to the A chord with the g note on top. Love it. 🎸
Hi James I hope somehow your still monitoring your channel after 8 years because I just came across this as its one of my favorite songs to play on my acoustic guitars and you did a really awesome job playing it and going over how its done. Thank you for doing this!
Thanks so much for posting this. I was trying to play the chords in first position???!!! You have a great sense of time and show the chords and their timing so well. Thanks again. I will have a renewed go at this great John Lennon song 😀
Always wondered what more John Lennon music would've sounded like. A shame this is as close as the world would get. Loving that new tele, though. Sounds great!
JJ, does this song sound a bit Dylan-esque to you? Especially the vocals during "Strange days indeed..." I think Dylan had an indelible influence on John. Right from "You've Got To Hide Your Love Away", "Norwegian Wood" till "Working Class Hero" and even this song, which was recorded few months before his death. I read somewhere that John was terrified after listening to "Subterranean Homesick Blues" for the first time because it was so surreal. And there's no need to exemplify John's surrealism on his lyrics after '65. I also think John learnt to reference obscure lines from literature in his songs only from Dylan. What's your take on this? Do you know any more cool Lennon-Dylan anecdotes?
Apparently this song was incomplete and Yoko helped finished it after his death. Not sure what her input was, but regardless sounds great, and probably one of my favorites of his solo career songs.
Yoko had absolutely nothing to do with writing this song. Her input was to hand over tapes of John's incomplete songs to the record company (a contractual requirement) and demand that she get a producer credit/royalties.
@@jamesjames9275 Sounds about right. Because she was credited as a producer, I ignorantly thought it was a possibility she had something to do with mixing the song or having some kind of input to the sound. And that maybe shes actually talented at something musically... But what you said definitely sounds more in line with what Yoko would do.
+Oliver Oliver I think John used a Casino on the Imagine album after that he switched to a Les Paul JR., at least for the Madison Square Garden concert. I'm not sure if he used a Fender in his solo carer but my bet is James probably just went for a guitar that matched the tone. You probably wanted James to answer but I hope this helps. BTW agreed on the tone from James's guitar, it sounds great for being a pretty low end guitar!
I don't think we've seen the Daphne Blue Strat, the Gretsch, his Black SG, and a few other Guitars on his JJ channel. He was using most of them on the PT channel.
Funny, I just noticed your bass guitar in the back ground. Perhaps you might play sometime. I could listen to you talk about music and song structure and who was playing what all day. How old were you when you first picked up the guitar and what was the music that first inspired you to play?
I loved this song as a teenager! 2020 were strange days indeed.
I think you’re hearing this just right. Great interpretation.
You always blow me away with how you play by ear. Great stuff
Strange days indeed!
And then there’s 2020...
Hey James. Thanks for all you do. Watching you continue to play for all these years tends to make me wanna pick up my guitar a lot.
Brilliant

Nice shirt! Great Passaic concert hall from days long gone...
Thank you dear brother for the sharing of your talent and ability. Great heart you have sir. Completely reliable.
I've had a few of those days. Nothing rose colored glasses couldn't fix. ;)
I never really appreciated that song growing up. Now that I know how to play it, I want to play it all the time.
You are the best UA-cam cover guy. Been my fave since the PT days

Just awesome, James! Love that guitar by the way. Great tone, and masterful playing!
Your videos are badass.

Great job! John would be proud!
What a great song bro! great job!
James...great work! Ever given "Losing You" a whirl? Lennon.
Thanks!

In your opinion who's the better solo artist? John, Paul, George or Ringo. ...gotta ask
Ringo's is ok. I like Paul's solo work. I love George's. I can't live without John's...
John all the way
James can you know what a chord sounds like by ear? Like Rick Beato ? Method?
I think you do!
Did you play for lennon?
Wait, did John mainly use a Fender during the Post-Beatles era? Nice tone by the way!
+Oliver Oliver I think John used a Casino on the Imagine album after that he switched to a Les Paul JR., at least for the Madison Square Garden concert. Haha your answer was already good. But yeah, I assume John used an Epiphone, I think JJ's 335 or even Gretsch would have done the job.
With JJ's fingers any of them would sound good but I don't think the Gretch gets much action anymore at least it hasn't it a while.
I don't think we've seen the Daphne Blue Strat, the Gretsch, his Black SG, and a few other Guitars on his JJ channel. He was using most of them on the PT channel.
Yea, I haven't seen much of the Goldtop either. He got right before he switched channels I really wish he would use it more. Really great tones.
is that tele an ibanez ? I have one looks the same?
Fender FMT HH, I think it’s called.
for some reason that strum on the Em is a struggle for me

Let me tell you. He thought it was strange days back then ? He'd be shocked today
It's me or this tele sounds more twangy than Burton's reissue?
Yo you gotta sing it.
