In my opinion the straps are too long. And it might fit a bit nicer if you weaved a chain of cream yarn through the bottom so that you can tighten it? I love the colours!
To make the waist fit better, you might try crocheting the same motifs with a smaller hook. I have a vintage granny square skirt pattern and that is how they accomplish the shaping- and I thought that idea was genius. That and fixing the straps as others have already suggested could do it.
Need to shorten the straps Separate the squares with a beige yarn remove 2 squares( one on top and one on the bottom Add a 3rd row of squares And add a decorative border at the bottom. Or make the squares a little bit smaller. And try the procedure again.
I think it's really cute! But there is a difference with your friend's version, I think a big part of it is hers seems like it's made of thinner yarn, and also hers has negative ease at the top (ie it's tighter) but also is slightly looser at the bottom than the top!
I am of the same opinion as the others that the top is too wide and the straps are also too far apart, but I think in addition you need the straps in pink and not in nature, probably suits your skin type better. You could also crochet some pink rows at the top and bottom, which would also make it a little longer. And it looks like your friend's top is made of thinner yarn and therefore looks more filigree or nestles better against the body. I hope I have expressed myself in an understandable way. Greetings from cologne Andy
I agree. In order to make this top work without starting it all over. Change the color of the straps, make them a little less wide, move them in a little more. If you make a new one I recommend a lighter weight yarn in cotton.
I can't time stamp the spot but I do notice a bit of a side gap. If it was a regular top you would want to put darts on the side to bring it in and give it a bit of shape. I agree that the straps are too far apart. In the future, they may start to slide down your shoulder.
Have you blocked it? It’s hanging a bit stiff which blocking will help with! Otherwise it looks like you used a slightly thicker yarn/smaller hook than your friend, or she used a cotton or bamboo yarn whereas you may have used wool or acrylic which will affect stitch thickness and definition. I also agree that it it slightly too big on you and the straps too far apart if you’re going for the same fit as your friend. personally I would also add some colour to the straps - you could do it lengthwise with cream/pink stripes, if you don’t want to faff about with granny squares again? The top is super cute btw, these are just tweaks!!
I like the wide straps but I would angle the bottom of them in a little and keep the width up top. The first row of daises (attached to straps) needs to be tightened a bit. A third row would be good but it might feel too long. I’d do a 1/2 to 3/5 size daisy row on the bottom but do white box and pink inside for a little dimension. Love the scalloped bottom! Keep that 😊🎉 looking good!
My personal preference is that I think it could be a bit longer. And can it be tightened up at all? It looks a bit loose on you. And yes I agree with the straps, something seems off. Can you add color or something interesting into the straps, like Amy's top has?
You also might be able to slight taper the shape of the squares in the front to make them conform a little better to body shape. Maybe bringing it into a drawing app and lasso the shapes move them around a little it might help you visualize the shapes you need a little better, maybe not all of them really should be “square” but I definitely think it’s going in the right direction
what do you mean it's too long? are you really saying it should only be one row of granny squares? that would look really weird because the squares are small
Maybe try smaller versions of the daisy up the straps or pink. then reinforce it to make the straps stronger. You need to break up the block of the tube effect in some way. So more colour going up the straps in that beautiful pink and a little more in from it’s position. not much. Pin in place then try on with photo. It’s beautiful it just needs to be balanced out. The cream colour is too washed out.
The other top is thinner yarn, smaller squares, and more fitted. Yours is still super cute! If you want it more like the proportions of your friend's top, maybe remove two of the squares in the row and make the straps just a bit closer. A little crochet trim to make it a bit longer may work, too! Overall it's lovely and I love the look of the daisy squares!
The colors are perfect and I so love the daisy design 💚 The straps are too long in my opinion so it lays too low on your chest and is a little wide (which could be super cute if you wear the finished product over a dress or tee shirt!) I suggest shortening the straps so it sits higher up and maybe removing one of the rows of squares so that it fits more snug. It's always a matter of trouble shooting, especially when not using a pattern!!
This looks great! If you care to hear my opinion, I would shorten the length of the straps just a bit and also bring them in a little. I would also add one more row of daisy squares. I think that would balance everything out.
I feel like it may be a touch too big. I would move the straps maybe a couple of stitches closer to one another, then for experimenting I would lace some yarn in the back, criss-cross, and see if tightening it would help with the feel of it.
I think what would pull it together is trying to add some like ruffle details or just a cute stitch to finish off the bottom. The extra bottom row would help balance the thick white of the straps with a thicker line at the bottom. Either way I think lining the straps and the bottom edges with the same style of crochet stitch could really give it a more completed feel. I can picture it similar to a crochet top I purchased in the same cropped style with the thicker straps. I also think you could add ribbon details or something else if it needs something extra. Little bows in the center of the flowers would be soooo cute! I love a girly style so I keep thinking of all the cute things you could do🤗
Your friend Amy's crochet top looks allost identical to the fake "crochet" print used in Le Serrafim's Smart MCountdown stage (29/02/24), like to to point that I had to comepare screenshots to check it wasn't exactly the same lol. They're eerily similar! And not just because they both use pastels, because I know pastels are a popular choice, but even down the the splashes of red and more saturated colours which aren't usually paired with pastels.
Shorten straps, possibly make them smaller but if you like that look odnjist shorten them. If you find the top is too short after that, you could add some rows, half grannies, or fringe. Super cute top!
I think it looks great. In my opinion, all you need to do is make it a little tighter altogether and maybe do a line or 2 of single crochets at the bottom where you consistently decrease stitches. That should help cinch it in. And also shorten the straps and place them more towards the center.
I think the straps should have the same pink as the top instead of the beige. I definitely agree with you about how adorable it is. Please let us know how you fixed it. 😊
You could connect some of the botton stitches in the back and at the sides together to make the bottom line smaller and maybe also the top line. Then I would put the straps nearer, maybe a little nearer than necessary to get a V shaped strap line and I would definetly cross them at the back. ❤❤ Hope you can get some inspiration ☺️
I think the straps could be a little shorter to pull the whole top up just a little bit. Also move them in a little closer, the example you shared had the strap line up with the seam between two squares. I agree with adding a third row at the bottom, especially if you shorten the straps you may need a little extra length there.
I have to say that you did a bang up job without a pattern. ❤ I love the straps but like others I think the top of it needs to be a bit tighter. Lovely top. 😊
I think you need more colour in the straps to contrast your skin tone. Just like your friends 😊 oh and also agree that maybe the straps are a little too far apart. Looks super cute though xx
Another row of squares maybe pink straps as the colour would look better against your skin. Maybe tighten it up by taking a vertical row of squares out too xxx
i think the straps could be shorter and the overall size smaller in circumference (I would take out the white border in the back). plus if you add more white bordering, the length would hit at a better spot on your body shape, i think. the reason why your friend's might also look better is that the squares there are smaller, so easier to change a size, e.g., removing one of your squares would make the size drastically smaller, while removing a smaller square would make less of a difference. if this makes sense :"D
With granny square clothing, there's really no way to stitch a cinch under the bust or at the waist, which is why more-endowed folks need longer pieces, that tend to look chunky. As someone recommended, you could weave in a chain cinch at the bottom to give it more form-fit, or add another layer to the bottom. I've also started stitching in elastic to my littles' clothes instead of vertical hdc back stitch bands, though you could do that as well.
it's a super cute top but you're right, something seems off 😂 i think the straps are too long and they are too far apart. just don't move them too close...you should move them just a little bit and shorten the straps and i think it would look great and if you want it to better fit around your waist you can try adding elastic thread at the bottom where your waist is but on the inside ofc
Your friend has straps one granny wide. Yours are not wide or narrow so kinda stuck in between. Their colour blends with your skin tone, I’d try them in the pink colour
It's a bit... boxy? I am not a crochet expert so I don't know how to fix it but I think the length is good, it just needs to be more form fitting around the waist I think the straps could be closer together too but just a little! Hope this helps! 😅 (I saw someone else mention making the bottom cinch-able? That might fix the boxiness of it!)
i think it is just too loose, i would recommend taking out 2 granny squares from the bodice portion and making the straps a bit tigher and also closer together. hope this helps
The top and colors are Super cute but yes I think the straps are too wide apart and also maybe it needs one more layer of squares and perhaps the straps could be narrower?
It's really cute. Maybe try tightening up the bottom by going around the bottom, crocheting every two stitches into one, thus pulling it in a bit. It's a little big for you. You could probably even take out two vertical squares? Stick with it. you're almost there ! 🌼
Love the daisy design! Your friend's top seems more fitted on her, especially under the bust, so you could try taking it in a bit? To still be able to easily put in on you could add a tie or button closure, which is also a cute detail! Also the straps of your friend's top seem closer together and possibly a bit shorter, raising the neckline slightly. I also think adding some of the pink and yellow to the straps might be nice. Curious to see how the top turns out!
The main problem is the straps are too long and the top is too short. I think an extra row of flowers would make a huge difference. Its just the proportions seem way off. I do think having the straps narrower or top tighter might be nicer like some commenters are saying but its not the main thing I notice. I also wonder if the straps should be a mix of pink and white? Maybe mostly pink with white along the edges?
I think remove the boarder on the back, for a much snug fit (on the vertical part) ,stripes are indeed too wide and far apart I think 3-4 stitches would do.. you can also add one more row of flowers if adjusting makes it too short.. also this type of top looks much greater with thinner yarn The border can be on the top row and bottom row.. maybe at the bottom it can be beige pink beige for some length
Love it. To make it better, make straps a 1/2” thinner and place them closer to center of the top. Also I’d do a decrease on the bottom section of the border that cinches it in some.
I think it is to wide at the bottom, making it look boxy. If you added a slightly tighter row at the bottom to pull that in a little, that might help give it more shape
couple of things: the upper part of the top(neckline, the part that goes allong your armpits) is too wide in comparison to the other top, straps too wide apart, and I whould make the straps just a smidge shorter and the top a smidge longer. so it's very much fixable and super cute when finished but you are right that it looks a bit off right now
Honestly, I feel like you should make it longer, like a dress. It’s beautiful, but the wide straps doesn’t suit it to be a short top. If you make it longer like a dress up to ur toes, it will widen out the end of ur top to the floor and increase the waste size. It would be beautiful with a belt as a long dress❤️
I think it just needs to be shape to your body better, aka smaller going down, and maybe move the straps a little over. But otherwise I love it and I'm tempted to try making one myself now 💜
It looks a little big maybe. And the straps are too wide in my opinion. If you make them more narrow maybe you can put a cute pink border around the straps cause I think the all white straps are washing you out a bit and making you look more pale! The top is super cute tho so don't give up on it!😊
It's so cute. 1. Maybe make the straps shorter, also less wide. And maybe put a single crochet border of pink to the straps? To give them more definition on your pale skin. As a fellow pale skin girly, I know those straps would get lost on my skin. I hope that makes sense. However, I'm not quite sure if that's what it is. I can see why you can't put your finger on it. 2. Take out the border at the back and add a string tie up so you can cinch it. 3. Either add another row of grannies to the bottom or add more of a border to the bottom. I'm picturing frilly and now it's living rent free in my mind 😍 I know nothing about how you would do that but I'm sure someone with more knowledge would know. You've got such a pretty idea, keep at it 🫶
It is super cute, but as many are pointing out, it is way too loose on your body, so it doesn’t look flattering as it should since it’s super cute with a flower designs, granny squares! Doesn’t necessarily have to fit super tight, but you also don’t want it to look so loose that it’s just a rectangle on you if that makes sense. definitely needs to be a little more fitted though.
The bodice is a tad wide, and the straps are too far apart. (As someone with narrow shoulders, this happens a lot with me.😅) Love the colours you chose!
Straps need to be closer in, more narrow, and the granny part is giving potato sack. Take out a column of squares so it's more fitted. It'll also stretch out over time too, especially if you haven't even washed this yet.
The only thing is that the straps are too far apart and that the bottom of the top needs to be tighter instead of sticking out. Other than those things, the tops is very pretty and you did such a good job on it. ❤❤❤
It's a fab first draft for sure! 😀 The straps seem a little too far apart and a bit blocky - perhaps breaking them up with a vertical row or 2 of the pink would be cute. Some elastic or other way to synch in the bottom and maybe top could be worth experimenting with to see if you like that more fitted look. Its a little big ... perhaps blocking would work/ removing a couple of squares. Love your creativity 👌
I’m thinking it just needs a bit more shaping. I’m wondering how it would feel if you were to add another square at the top on each side and then one of those half granny squares and in turn moving the straps up/making them shorter. So like 🟧📐 (and then the flip of that shape, making a v neck like)
Straps are too far apart. I don’t know that they’re too wide/thick though. Maybe a few rows too long in order to bring up the neckline and then the top could use another row of squares. It’s definitely a great idea and looks cute!
It totally depends on the look you’re looking for but indeed the fit seems a bit odd, I’m not sure if the straps are too far appart, cause again it’s a matter of the style of the top you want to achieve but they may be too long And if you’d like a more fitted top an easy way to do so is by removing 4 squares a the back (2 on top and 2 on the bottom) and adding a few rows on the side with holes and then crocheting a string to go trough the holes to make it into a corset back ! Could look really cute and with that you can still adjust the size to your liking at anytime
It’s super cute but I think it could use a few more rows in length (too short), straps slightly closer to your neck and it almost looks a lil too big. I’ve had alll the same problems with a shirt I made. And a few adjustments and was good to go. You did an amazing job super cute. But I do get what u mean by a little off.
If you just want the 1 to 1 comparison, Amy's top has straps made of the squares adding more color. Hers is also more fitted, not hanging off her body.
Definitely the straps! Too far apart and a little bit too long. Also the straps need color. Bring the bottom in a bit and add another row! It is super cute!
I agree with most of the comments. I would try dropping a hook size maybe two and redoing the straps. Also the bottom is a tad too big. If possible take a couple squares out to have a better fit. You could also try adding a little ribbing
ok, so there is lots to say, but I love the top. It's super cute! 1. it's to big on you take at least one row of daisies out, possibly two 2. straps need to be at least 3cm closer together 3. straps should be 1 cm narrower 4. make it 3 cm longer on the bottom with more white or a pink stripe 5. make the straps 4cm shorter hope this helps!
You probably get the jest of what needed to be done by now. But something I didn't see was changing the straps to a pattern. like your friends does. Your flowers are really cute.
Beautiful attempt! I’ve been crocheting for 40+ years. Perhaps consider smaller granny squares, more of them, & a softer/lighter weight yarn??? Good luck. 😅
If you're trying to replicate the fit of your friend's top, would say that your top is a bit too loose and too short on you, and the straps are too wide and set too far apart. To fix it, you could try removing a column of squares from the circumference, adding a another row of squares to the bottom, making narrower straps and attaching them closer together.
Straps too wide apart and perhaps the top is too big on you, nice length and love the colours
I think you’re right
Ya
100% agree maybe take one row of squares out
I second this! The straps are a little too far apart, and the top seems too loose, like she couldn't wear it without her bra showing.
In my opinion the straps are too long. And it might fit a bit nicer if you weaved a chain of cream yarn through the bottom so that you can tighten it? I love the colours!
I think the straps are a little too far apart and it looks a bit big. Maybe it could be a bit longer as well! I don't know if that helps. 😅
Same opinion
I said the same thing way to short I honestly hate clothes that. Reveal to much
To make the waist fit better, you might try crocheting the same motifs with a smaller hook. I have a vintage granny square skirt pattern and that is how they accomplish the shaping- and I thought that idea was genius. That and fixing the straps as others have already suggested could do it.
Need to shorten the straps
Separate the squares with a beige yarn remove 2 squares( one on top and one on the bottom
Add a 3rd row of squares
And add a decorative border at the bottom.
Or make the squares a little bit smaller. And try the procedure again.

I totally agree about the pink straps!
I agree. In order to make this top work without starting it all over. Change the color of the straps, make them a little less wide, move them in a little more.

I would make it one row longer but otherwise it looks cute
Thank you!
Yeah, I would make the straps a little shorter a shorter, and add some rows to the bottom. Maybe like a cute scallop trim on the bottom hem?
Have you blocked it? It’s hanging a bit stiff which blocking will help with! try using a kind of tie up back like a corset? and yes, the straps are too far out

I think the straps should have the same pink as the top instead of the beige. I definitely agree with you about how adorable it is. Please let us know how you fixed it. 😊
What kind of yarn do you use? Are you okay with using wool?
I love it just the way it is!!!

Maybe a little bit too short but you can absolutely wear it. Looks really super cute!
i think it should be tighter if you keep it as short as it is or longer jf you want to keep it as wide.
Anyway it looks wonderful already! ❤
Looks super cute though xx

it's a super cute top but you're right, something seems off 😂 i think the straps are too long and they are too far apart. just don't move them too close...you should move them just a little bit and shorten the straps and i think it would look great
and if you want it to better fit around your waist you can try adding elastic thread at the bottom where your waist is but on the inside ofc
maybe taking out a row of squares can help, tying the back to make it fit better. Also, pulling the straps in a bit.
It’s perfect imo. I like the wider straps
The straps are also squares so it’s more cohesive throughout.
Your friend has straps one granny wide. Yours are not wide or narrow so kinda stuck in between. Their colour blends with your skin tone, I’d try them in the pink colour
It's a bit... boxy? I am not a crochet expert so I don't know how to fix it but I think the length is good, it just needs to be more form fitting around the waist
I think the straps could be closer together too but just a little!
Hope this helps! 😅
(I saw someone else mention making the bottom cinch-able? That might fix the boxiness of it!)
I agree, the straps too wide and the top is too big.
i think it is just too loose, i would recommend taking out 2 granny squares from the bodice portion and making the straps a bit tigher and also closer together. hope this helps
Your friend's top was more form fitting. Besides the large distance between the straps, smaller squares allow you to play around more with the sizing.
Your top is cute as is, but one or two more rows would be cute too
The top and colors are Super cute but yes I think the straps are too wide apart and also maybe it needs one more layer of squares and perhaps the straps could be narrower?
Its looking lovely ❤
It's really cute. Maybe try tightening up the bottom by going around the bottom, crocheting every two stitches into one, thus pulling it in a bit. It's a little big for you. You could probably even take out two vertical squares? Stick with it. you're almost there ! 🌼
Hope you got it fixed cause it is super cute. But I agree, something was a little off but not sure what. Great job though!

Maybe add some sort of lace back to the top to tighten it a bit? No need to rip up anything, on top of the existing back.
I think you could do some edging that forms the shape
I think remove the boarder on the back, for a much snug fit (on the vertical part) ,stripes are indeed too wide and far apart I think 3-4 stitches would do.. you can also add one more row of flowers if adjusting makes it too short.. also this type of top looks much greater with thinner yarn
The border can be on the top row and bottom row.. maybe at the bottom it can be beige pink beige for some length
Love it. To make it better, make straps a 1/2” thinner and place them closer to center of the top. Also I’d do a decrease on the bottom section of the border that cinches it in some.
I think it is to wide at the bottom, making it look boxy. If you added a slightly tighter row at the bottom to pull that in a little, that might help give it more shape
couple of things: the upper part of the top(neckline, the part that goes allong your armpits) is too wide in comparison to the other top, straps too wide apart, and I whould make the straps just a smidge shorter and the top a smidge longer. so it's very much fixable and super cute when finished but you are right that it looks a bit off right now
Id like to see it contoured toward the bottom so that it doesnt hang off your top bits. Maybe a tapered border?
Honestly, I feel like you should make it longer, like a dress. It’s beautiful, but the wide straps doesn’t suit it to be a short top. If you make it longer like a dress up to ur toes, it will widen out the end of ur top to the floor and increase the waste size. It would be beautiful with a belt as a long dress❤️
Try a fuffle design for the bottom and try making the straps a tad bit smaller
I think it just needs to be shape to your body better, aka smaller going down, and maybe move the straps a little over. But otherwise I love it and I'm tempted to try making one myself now 💜
It looks a little big maybe. And the straps are too wide in my opinion. If you make them more narrow maybe you can put a cute pink border around the straps cause I think the all white straps are washing you out a bit and making you look more pale! The top is super cute tho so don't give up on it!😊
I would shorten the straps and add one more row of daisy squares on the bottom to make it longer
The straps would look better in the colourps of the squares. I think it needs to be tighter around the bottom too.
(As someone with narrow shoulders, this happens a lot with me.😅)
Love the colours you chose!
The straps seem a little too far apart and a bit blocky - perhaps breaking them up with a vertical row or 2 of the pink would be cute.
So like 🟧📐 (and then the flip of that shape, making a v neck like)
Needs a band of the neutral between the daisy squares.
I would shorten the straps, put them a little closer together and add another row of squares at the bottom.
Straps are too far apart. I don’t know that they’re too wide/thick though. Maybe a few rows too long in order to bring up the neckline and then the top could use another row of squares. It’s definitely a great idea and looks cute!
It needs to be longer because it doesn't taper in like a typical tube top that would be made of a stretchy clingy material
It totally depends on the look you’re looking for but indeed the fit seems a bit odd, I’m not sure if the straps are too far appart, cause again it’s a matter of the style of the top you want to achieve but they may be too long
And if you’d like a more fitted top an easy way to do so is by removing 4 squares a the back (2 on top and 2 on the bottom) and adding a few rows on the side with holes and then crocheting a string to go trough the holes to make it into a corset back !
The straps might be a little too long and I think it might benefit from either ribbing on the bottom or another row of squares to add length
1. it's to big on you take at least one row of daisies out, possibly two
2. straps need to be at least 3cm closer together
3. straps should be 1 cm narrower
4. make it 3 cm longer on the bottom with more white or a pink stripe
5. make the straps 4cm shorter
hope this helps!
You probably get the jest of what needed to be done by now. But something I didn't see was changing the straps to a pattern. like your friends does. Your flowers are really cute.
Maybe some fringe on the bottom and that she'll stich at the top between straps
It would look nice over a dress with sleeves or a blouse
That strip would make a good octopus arm on a stuffed animal.
Great job! It needs one more row on the waist.
Beautiful attempt! I’ve been crocheting for 40+ years. Perhaps consider smaller granny squares, more of them, & a softer/lighter weight yarn??? Good luck. 😅
I think combination or straps too wideset and maybe 1 daisy too wide for you around the body
Its so cute though
I think you should take some squares out or maybe tighten the ribing
I think that the straps are too long and a little too far apart. Hope this helps. Thanks for all your videos they are very inspirational.
I think you need a third row of granny squares to make the top a better length.
If you're trying to replicate the fit of your friend's top, would say that your top is a bit too loose and too short on you, and the straps are too wide and set too far apart. To fix it, you could try removing a column of squares from the circumference, adding a another row of squares to the bottom, making narrower straps and attaching them closer together.
cute! but I think the white straps wash you out. Can you make them pink?
I think if you make the straps closer in and round them out it would fix it
