Joe Morello. What a class act he was.
That's thru!
Looks like an accountant, hits like a gorilla 🦍.
Only Buddy Rich could ever match him for me. Both different though. Epic era!
My older brother got me hooked on Take Five when I was 7 or 8 years old. My brother was a tenor sax player, too and my dad played piano. Been hooked on this for over 60 years. It’s my go-to song to relax!! Love ❤️ it.
Isn't "Take Five" Beautiful??!! Yeah Paul Desmond Wrote it!!
That first 6 seconds of drums is amazing. I want to put it on a loop and just vibe. Drumming is more about keeping a feel than keeping time to me.
check out 'Rose Rouge'
I'm So glad that Mr. Paul Desmond Wrote the song that put Dave Brubeck in the Jazz hall of fame, and gave him his lifetime achievement award and of course this Song was "Take Five" (Composed by Paul Desmond)!!😊
As great as Desmond, Wright and Brubeck are there's something quite special about Joe Morello, from the light touches of the intro to the bombastic solo. Could listen to this for all eternity.
When everyone else was listening to the Beatles and the Dave Clarke Five I was listening to Dave Brubeck Stan Gets and Paul Butterfield and I don't regret a minute of it. 😊
As well as superb musicianship look at the turnout. Suits ties haircuts. Joe morello looks like a drum salesman.
Absolute musical genius!!!
I'm sure you meant Stan Getz. Dave Brubeck, and Paul Butterfield, all great Jewish musicians!!!
@@snagrbuster7343-- Dave Brubeck was not Jewish. His surname derives from a German name associated with a place, and not known as a Jewish name. His mother's name (Ivey) is Norman in origin. Later in life, Brubeck became Catholic.
Butterfield? I doubt it, not that it matters. Some people say so, but that means nothing.
That's because you were listening to REAL MUSIC!!!!!!
Dave was waiting for Joe's cue that the solo was almost over. Standard procedure for any soloist.
Also, Joe was legally blind and could not wait for a visual signal from Dave.
I really like how Dave was watching Paul with so much appreciation while he was playing!
From the interviews I've seen, it seems that Joe already had this 5/4 beat as an exercise without a song. Paul had the song, but nothing else. Dave was the wizard who concocted this magical brew which will live forever.
This looks lovely, and it's always great to hear this version again and again, but honestly, I LOVE the black and white version.
Joe Morello... absolute mastery!
Love it. This is the meaning of the word “elegance”.
Dear Officials at the Official Dave Brubeck Channel:
I’m 69, M, former musician, love Take Five since first hearing it way way back on its first airing and I love B/W original prints for their original honesty and feel.
I detest colorization as it looks and feels contrived detracting from the whole creation.
I’m sure I’m not the only one.
Please keep this in mind for the future.
Thanks for the great music. What a group.
Complete mastery of the piano.... very special. And also - teamwork makes the dream work!
Geniuses doing their thing.
This composition is of immortal value.
Es un deleite escuchar la batería en manos del gran Joe Morello con una fineza y elegancia característica de él.
Wow!! Joe morello ..using matched grip and no MOELLER technique? Probably some of the best Morello I've ever heard..great video
Brilliant amazing 👏🏻
I didn't grow up on jazz music, but a drummer shared this on a message board as her Ah-Ha moment of ride playing,. I have had this thing on loop now for a few solo practices. Joe Morello has relaxed flow in everything. There are a couple videos out there that have that Ah-Ha moment for me now. Long live the library of Alexandria.
Joe Morello. Gah DAYUM that guy may be one of my favorite drummers of all time ever since I found this song and one of the main reasons I got into jazz
Woah! This is amazing! It's nice to be able to see this performance in color.
Desmond really takes it up another notch, and the others follow.
All taking subtle cues from each other. Brilliant.
Un chef-d'œuvre. 🎶🍷🇨🇵🎶
Immortal performance by these gentlemen
Unfortunately, they have gone
They have left these legendary performances
Wonderful musicianship and photographic depiction of an immortal jazz group!!
Tema y grupo inolvidables, con un Joe Morello magistral.

That Ride cymbal of Joe Morello is a 'Stradivarius'. !!!
The greatest performance ever indeed!
Thank you so much for the video and the efford... This Take Five's version is one of my favourites... So interesting to see in colour. Greetings from Spain.
This is absolutely the best version of "Take Five". Ever. Simply sublime.
You should see the version that they did on Playboy's Penthouse; it might give this one some competition.
You should also check out 1966 Live in Germany version - my personal favourite.
😊😊
😊
i agree...some came close--but this one was the sharpest
Master’s of spacious, dynamic and colorful solos.
The expression " Cool cat " belongs to Joe Morello !!! 😎 🐈👍👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞
I'm from Japan!!

Rick, I can't get enough of your talent(s)! You and I share an appreciation for music of many types. I too have enjoyed this sound for many years, maybe my having lived in Europe helped me to appreciate it. Keep it coming, brother.

Замечательные композиции,классика!
Incredible musicians one of the best jazz groups ever.
I’m very fortunate to have Dave
Brubeck autograph Doug
Ramsey’s book: Take 5: The Public and Private Lives of Paul Desmond. Priceless! He rarely
gave autographs. He autographed my copy of the book during dinner following his concert at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, CA on August 26, 2005.
WOW what a treat 👏👏👏👏👏
Great clip! Amazing band 😍
It's a backshift in time for me ...
But I am only 16

beautiful
この素晴らしいエピソードを共有していただきありがとうございます。⚘⚘
The colours are a little funny (e.g. isn't the metal on the inside of the piano usually gold-coloured?), but they bring this beautiful version even more to life. Thanks.
Some tips to understand the video: Dave Brubeck observes any member of the quartet who is soloing. Firstly, Paul Desmond is soloing. Dave must watch him to see when Paul will give a hint that he is finishing the saxophone solo improvisation so that Dave can change the pace and start his improvisation. (That happens at 1:50 min of the video; Paul raises his saxophone slightly, then finishes with a few bars of simple handout notes). Then after he finished his solo, Dave turns to Joe (4:40 min) to prepare for drums solo. Then Joe Morello is soloing on drums; Dave is turned towards him, observes Joe's solo and spots a moment when Joe signs to Dave (6:23) and hands him the lead.
classicly trained muscians its good work

Magnifica maestría de estos expertos en #JazzBlanco

WoW 🎼
Hard to top this song.
My favorite non Rock band. I remember in the 60's walking to a store with a older cousin , she had her transistor radio on a Top 40 station. All the rock songs you could march to 1,2,3,4 all of the sudden a compound time song came on 5/8 I was totally confused I couldn't walk anymore until I found the
1,2,3 1,2 rythm loved Brubeck ever since then.
Guaraldi close second.
Perfeito!
Excelente performance única en su genero
Come here from time to time
OH !!!! YEAH !!!!

Incredible
I need this in old LP format!
You shouldn't have any difficulty buying a brand new copy, possibly it'll be in stock too. My local HMV has a huge vinyl department.
The whole band was awesome! No fooling around just down to business!
This is the song that gave me odd time sig....... player since 67
Magnificent!!!
Paul Desmond is the best sax Mi bemol
Joe was a very talented violinist as well with the Boston Symphony.
High quality content
At the end of his solo, Desmond quotes from his composition "Take Ten."
Is beauthifull
Brubeck seems to be monitoring Desmond’s playing in the beginning. At :34, Paul doesn’t quite articulate a note, and Brubeck shoots him a startled glance.
Love the recolouring.Joes’ 2 and 4 hi hat , really pushes it.Plus he plays matched grip in the solo.
would like to find someone who looks at me the way Dave looks at Paul Desmond playing the sax

🫶
amazing
