Performed by a girls' choir for the attendees of the MODELS 2011 conference (www.modelsconfe..., at the conference reception in Te Papa, Wellington. (The actual haka starts at 0:49)
A ra ra! Ka panapana, A ha ha - Lo, it is throbbing! A ha ha! Ka rekareka tonu taku ngakau - My heart is throbbing delighted Ki nga mana ririki i pohatu whakapiri - With the common people, like stones stuck together Kia haramai te takitini, - Who have come in their multitudes Kia haramai te takimano, - Who have come in their thousands Kia paretaitokotia ki Rawhiti! - And alighted upon the Eastern sea. Hi! Ha! - Hi! Ha! He mamae, he mamae! A ha ha! - Alas, there is a multitude of pain! Ka haere, ka haere taku powhiri - My call of welcome goes out Ki te Tai Whakarunga! - To the Southern Sea! Hoki mai, hoki mai taku tinana! - But alas comes back to me! Ka haere, ka haere taku powhiri - My words of welcome go out Ki te Tai Whakararo! - To the Northern Sea! Hoki mai, hoki mai taku tinana! - But again come back to me! Kia huri au ki te tai whakatu a Kupe - So I turn to the sea which Kupe raised up Ki te tai o Matawhero i motu mai! - To the sea which breaks at Matawhero! E ko Hitara ki roto ki aku ringa, - There is Hitler within my embrace, Kutia rawatia kia pari tona ihu! - Where I will crush him and break him! Hi ha! Auahi ana! Kss! Kss hei! - Hi! Ha! It is fitting! Kia whakanga hoki au i ahau - Now let me pause and rest awhile I aue! Hei! - Down, down to the ground
+Michalis Famelis This Haka was written on the return of the Maori Battalion. They are calling out to those who didnt return and the description of "throbbing delight" is for those who did return. Hope this puts the context into it for you. If you go to my page and search Ka panapana in the search box you will get the full haka. This has been shortened and changed slightly.
This is the second traditional Maori dance I've looked at in less than 10 minutes and I am shocked and amazed anybody would press the thumbs down button. There is nothing I repeat nothing more beautiful than to be able to sustain and practice your culture what is not to like. As a black woman I have to go look for it but they have it right there and it's beautiful I be damn to feel any negativity around this. beautiful beautiful
Same here! Imagine if all of the girls that performed this Haka were just as enthusiastic about it... oh man! That would send chills down my back! But oh well... at least their cries sounded really fierce
DIJITALSON I feel your culture so deep in my core blood and bones. Your people returned salmon to mount Shasta to our people out here in California. I feel this desire to see Maori and Karuk , Yurok , Miwok and all indigenous peoples to continue to come together and share our traditional ways with each other. Maori your strength sets our hearts right and aligns our sacred path. ❤
I've heard of the men's haka before, but never heard of the women's haka. This is my first time seeing women doing the haka, and holy shit, my spirit got stirred and my inner demons got scared just as much as the men's haka has done to me! Wow! O_O
There's a few other women's haka as well. There's another one called Te Urunga Tu which has more hip movements which comes from the East Coast region which is the same region this haka also comes from.
They were very good, the girl(s) doing the calling out were clear and melodic. I watched the Haka being performed when I was in NZ and it is indeed an awesome sight.
Wow im used to seeing Tongan,Samoan, Fijian Etc traditional dance, but this is the first time ive seen a maori dance for women... Way better and powerful..malo
Rachel J He means in Oklahoma. There was a comment further down on here from an Oklahoman. Ok is the abbreviation for Oklahoma. Each state has an abbreviation. Hope that clears things up a bit for you.
The Europeans in New Zealand have been performing the Haka with the utmost respect for decades. As long as you perform the Haka respectfully, no matter what cultural background, it's totally fine.
I wish there was more power behind their movements and faces. That's my only criticism. They did a great job reciting the dance, but there wasn't any ferocity behind the movements and voice. It seems like they were just going through the motions and not involved with the material.
I love Haka - I am an american in the us inthe state of Oklahoma and I think the Haka is a powerful tool - would it offend the Maori if we learned and did a Haka at a senior citizens center - I am 60 and they are older and I love the men's version too - words would be useful
maia mercado on Yea we cant eat pizza thats a italian culture. it is abousolutly be fine.as górę the worse bit sure but will look out for some other commentd with them
there are different hakas for different reasons and one of the reasons was to judge battle readiness as a chief would recognize if his troops were weakened or lacking confidence...so yes learning haka is a useful tool to build and judge health and confidence of anybody
If there any maori man or woman reading this, please answer this. If a foreigner marry a maori, will he or she be accepted into the tribe, or what things needed to be done in order to become a member. Will he or she had to received the ta moko or what?
As cool as this is, ( I think the idea of female performing Haka is kind of awesome ) I think the deep grunts and voices of men are better suited for it. This is completely awesome though! Especially the person who translated it! It's really emotional, the words I mean. Better than 98% of all poetry and music I hear!
A ra ra! Ka panapana, A ha ha Ka rekareka tonu taku ngakau Ki nga mana ririki i pohatu whakapiri Kia haramai te takitini, Kia haramai te takimano, Kia paretaitokotia ki Rawhiti! Hi! Ha! +Delma Rae Awesome, thanks for sharing! But, really, it says "I will crush Hitler"???

+Delma Rae Amazing!!
Wow! Thanks for that, will certainly check your page out. The Haka is a beautiful celebration of culture and life. :-)
beautiful! the fierce spirit is alive in the proud women of the maori!
To the guy who said "What's next .. children Haka?"
Maori men AND WOMEN have been performing this for centuries. And yes even little kids do the Haka.
Exactly. Waikato women are fierce and some say were scarier than the men.
Were? Are!
+tewaewae Haha true!
When did he say that? Could I have a timestamp?
Lmao we did it all through primary school. It was some exhilerating shizz but so normal and _fun_.

It's a pride taught from a young age in a culture. I love that part of the world. Shame on the thumbs down
As black woman we recognize that all colors are there. White and brown kiwis
The girl on the left is fierce!
hell yeah
my sister
YukiYuna116 I couldn't take my eyes off her, so dope!
and the girl behind her is barely trying.
Same here! Imagine if all of the girls that performed this Haka were just as enthusiastic about it... oh man! That would send chills down my back! But oh well... at least their cries sounded really fierce
The girl on the left is just brilliant with her hands and face.
She's her great grandmother's daughter
I think this is the kind of thing that is really Impowering to woman it shows the beauty in strength, and that goes for men as well.
I'm so deeply amazed by this culture..
Maori.. I'm Native American.. I believe we come from the same heritage . The design..we share..
lovely message thank you
I'm Blackfoot and I would be pleased to be related to this tribe!
We also share Kumara
Ae ka tika to korero koe! You are right. Kua whanau mai te kumara ki reira ki te moana pamamao!

I cry almost every single time I watch a Haka video. So, so powerful.
ME TOO!
Johna Hankins me too
Johna Hankins I wish the females did it the same as the males
@@ElizabethGlasby as māori girl sadly we can’t I wish we could
i don't know why i cry when i listen to this....it seems to tap into some emotion deep inside me. It has a kind of beauty and power all to its self.
I always get chills while watching a haka be performed I love it
I've heard of the men's haka before, but never heard of the women's haka.

Beautiful culture and dance! I admire the cultures of the South Pacific and enjoy their music and language! May it live for ever!
You can see the mana in them when they perform.
Absolutely! Exactely what I thought watching this. So powerful.
FALLEN RYUU sorry im very ignorant but I want to learn do you mind explaining what mana is?
Mermbo Nermberferv lmao or what? You’ll force Christianity upon us?
Wow im used to seeing Tongan,Samoan, Fijian Etc traditional dance, but this is the first time ive seen a maori dance for women... Way better and powerful..malo
I love this. Its really strong.
So fierce and inspirational!
Strong women! Love this 3
I think it is rude to say that the people in OK should not learn any Haka. If you are full-blooded Maori, can you not learn square-dancing?
Agreed! It's always great to see foreigners embrace my culture.
Insultin' Sultan. 'In OK' what's that mean
From what I understand anyone can learn and partake in Haka as long as they take it serious and perform with a level of respect that it deserves
Those girls' is my favorite haka.
Trust me there are a lot more haka on the Internet then this
I love haka people's. They are so real.
This is just beautiful! I wish to get to New Zealand and learn more about this culture!
such power. i'm crying
You can't beat the haka.........
...the Haka beats you...in a good way...
phapnui Yes it does. it stirrs the Spirit
Beautiful, Job well done ladies and Ms Delma Rae thank you for the translation.
How is this getting thumbs down?! Love this!
I sing this when im mad. Thanks.
Wow, shouting AND dancing with that kind of impact ...that's exhausting. But she's not out of breath
Beautiful and powerful
que bonita danza, me gusta mucho felicitaciones por tan bella cultura
Pilar Ruelas ¡estoy de acuerdo!
😱 They performed at Te papa in Wellington
learned about the haka dance in geography this year LOL
I wish there was more power behind their movements and faces. That's my only criticism. They did a great job reciting the dance, but there wasn't any ferocity behind the movements and voice. It seems like they were just going through the motions and not involved with the material.

it would be disrespectful since it is not your culture
+maia mercado It would NOT be disrespectful stfu
maia mercado on Yea we cant eat pizza thats a italian culture. it is abousolutly be fine.as górę the worse bit sure but will look out for some other commentd with them

Hope you did it bro, I'd love to see oldies attempting their first haka sounds like fun.

Halfway through the video I realized my mouth was open o-o
If women over here did this on a Friday night instead of downing a case of bacardi breezers then there would be more fun at closing time
+Mojo Deadman HAHAHHAHAHA
Why don't they do this the drown some Bacardi? Still fun.
Because women are here for your entertainment and pleasure.
im in kapa haka and i love love this song
Hi... What's the title of the song?
This one is my favourite.
is this wainuiomata intermediate

Check out Inuit throat singing. You would like it.
Tanya Tagaq is a throat singer, she made it more mainstream. She has some cool performances as well
This is beautiful.
fabulous.
I'm Mauri I did this dance
I wish I was full native but I am a half breed of native and hatian I always feel my soul is not sure where it fits in or confused
Aria'sDiaryTalk I'm halfcaste too, but I think it's a good thing. Races and cultures used to make war with one another, but now they make love.
Yell and pound the floor, sisters! Show your strength!
I've never heard of this what does haka mean
sounds like our street on a w/end
First girl from the left in the second row just doesn’t seem to be into it. They should audition for a new member and send this one down the road.
I think it has a lot of "I am not going to put up with your crap so leave me alone" in it - very anti bullying
This is awesome
so badass.
Lose the first 40 seconds
Why isn't anyone translating this? I want to know what they are shouting so fiercely.
Deedee R see the pinned comment
Thank you! I don't know how I missed it.
Reminds me of a women's military drill team
FIERCE
Thomas....... He's a good man
Ay is that Te Papa? Or does the background just look similar?
Hiruko whymustIinsertasurname Winter it is Te Papa
Michalis Famelis Haha! I thought so! I wonder if they finally got rid of the squid?
Anybody know the name of this haka chant and the words?
+Catie Consolo I believe it's Ka Panapana... But I don't know the words at all.
+Catie Consolo we've always called it ara ra where i'm from :)
A ra ra! Ka panapana, A ha ha

Ki nga mana ririki i pohatu whakapiri
Kia haramai te takitini,
Kia haramai te takimano,
Kia paretaitokotia ki Rawhiti! Hi! Ha!
He mamae, he mamae! A ha ha!
Ka haere, ka haere taku powhiri

Constantly delighting my heart
with the small forces knocking together
May there be multitudes of thembursting in
thousands of them irrupting.
May they flow to the Eastern Sea. Hi! Ha!
A yearning, an ache! A ha ha!
My invitation goes out
To the Southern Sea!
Come back, come back to my body!...
I turn to the sea which Kupe raised up
To the sea which breaks at Gisborne!
The assailant in my grasp is digging away,
He'll be squeezed, choked, until his nose is flowing
Hi! Ha! Kss! Kss!
Now let me pause and rest awhile. Oh! Ahhh!

This reminds me of when men were men and women were women..beautiful

Women did this Haka cos the men were not here they were overseas fighting in the bloody war
The one on the back left really isn't into it
Thank you thomas😂

Its just not the same
the haka is the tribal dance of the male and female maori people that has been handed down from generation to generation to generation thats the haka
一人めっちゃキレッキレなのがいる
Te Papa
Nasıl yani
cool
I love my maori culture..but it's about time for an upgrade on the uniform..what ya reckon?
It's NOT a uniform it is our traditional attire. Which we love and respect thank you.
Mean maori mean
Mean maori mean

These women haka was just killing my vibe. The once done by men is the bomb so much energy.
what's next?
children haka?
CantolaoTV Yes children organ do the haka aswell smartass
the only reason why the children do the haka is to keep that tradition alive
how ignorant and dumb can you be? fucker, our people no matter the gender perform the Haka
scary
Very funny but cute
girl on the left must not be full Maori ..ugh..
dominion shadow lots of Maori aren't full Maori but none here really cares, why do you?
She's a bit out of it.
Yes it would be offensive,, you need to do the right actions etc
I much prefer this over feminist crying songs.
Not nearly as intimidating as the men's version.
I think ill stick to the men's haka...
Cultural appropriation, don't do it.
