    I like the separate on/off switch idea. My Fluke 87 has been just that--a fluke. When it is not being used and the rotary switch is in the off position, it has an intermittent anomoly where the display flashes on and off and can run the battery down. i have sent it in to fluke for repair in the past because the resistance measurement stopped working. I like the meter, but for what they cost vs the problems I have had, I won't buy any more fluke products if better value options exist

    I like your style, it looks like you have found your way to make videos and I think it works. Only comment is the transitions that are big, it feels a bit like my vision suddenly get out of focus. I'll try to find a video on UA-cam with a fading transition.
    I like your way to show things in this video, you have placed it on the table and that do it a lot easier for the camera to focus. You may sometimes see videos where a person tries to hold the item, near to the camera. That do very often result in the camera trying to keep focus on the table, while the presenter try to get focus on the item. To day were the glare from the lamps both good and illustrative, but if you want to avoid reflections, can you try to use a circular pol-filter, it's a bit expensive but do nearly totally remove any reflections, making it easier to read from displays and so on.

      @@KissAnalog hmm no maybe did you not want to make the video that long, but what would you cut out? If you look at the review, did you go trough much of the important and nothing were irrelevant. Only your start of the video would then be something to cut in, but again, if you had done that, had you also cut in the part that make your video different from others. You have a certain style and tempo that make it your videos, your channel and to change that would only make your videos mainstream and perhaps boring. I did once follow a woodworker who's channel is called WoodWorking for Mere Mortals or WWMM for short, it was a great channel with lots of interesting input, a lot of him and you were in his shop, visiting him. Then did he got the idea to make them shorter, faster paced and did end up cutting "his personality" out, it ended up being a channel where you see him make an intro, cut the wood in fast camera-angle cuts and then the assembly, only with a few comments. Everything I subscribed for is gone and I don't even know if he still makes video anymore.

    13:38 I like to see some demo how the LoZ works, i never seen a video that demonstrate this in a DMM review.
    If i'm correct, this option will reduce the "ghostvoltages" that isolation transformators have between the secundairy coil and core, by using a lower internal resistance, almost like a analog voltmeter does?

      @@KissAnalog , so if you want to do a LoZ measuring with a DMM that doesn't have this option, you can place a 1W resistor with the same value as the internal impedance of the DMM in parallel accross your leads?
      Because in some service manuals of old radiogear, they mention that the voltages measurements must be done with a voltmeter with a impedance of only 500 or 50Kohm. Like the analog meters back in the days.

    Hi Eddie
    I'm looking for an answer from either you or anybody reading this, ive just bought the flir dm93 I think that's the one above yours, the the one with the Bluetooth, sooo when in continuity mode there's a short break in the audible tone, right at the very beginning, kinda like ....bip=beeeep thats the only way I can describe it lol, ive noticed yours does it aswell, also there's another review of the dm93 on utube by that mj lorton guy and his does it aswell, I'm finding it very frustrating, have you any idea why they do this, is there a purpose to it, or just a cheap buzzer, ? Any help appreciated Eddie, many thanks, and a great channel you have here 😀

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  3 роки тому +1

      This is interesting. I tested my 92 and it does the same thing. It is very fast, so I think it is two functions, one that is set to react fast to give that beep, and then the second continous tone if the continuity is still there. The level of ohms can be set too which is nice. I think the single beep is there for intermittent shorts, so it is set very fast and beeps to show it caught a transient short. It might have been nice if they had designed the first beep to extend a bit longer to overlap the second beep so that the double beep wasn't there. But then again, maybe they want it short so that it will beep beep beep if there is intermittent connections and they didn't want to cover that up??

    • @barryorbik215
      @barryorbik215 3 роки тому +1

      Ok thanks Eddie, not really sure i understand all that, I just don't see why it needs a break, but never mind it still works, on a side note, a couple of years back when rs components discontinued the iso tech name to launch the rs pro brand a lot of iso tech stuff turned up on ebay going really cheap, I bought the iso tech idm 505, this is really the appa idm 505, this meter did the exact same thing with the break in the buzzer tone, I gave that one away to a friend who lost a lot of his tools in a bad house flood, river burst its Bank, so he was happy with that meter for free anyway, the idm 505 had all the same company logo/ trade marks on the circuit board as the flir dm93, thats how I know appa build the flir meters, the triangle probes and the temp probes are also appa items, nothing to do with flir, maybe flir have some design input but they don't make them, on the dm284/285 flir probably provide the thermal camera chip, but thats probably it, anyway thanks for your help Eddie, I may try ringing flir in the week for an answer they have a free global technical help line, I rang a couple of weeks ago regarding something else, it was like talking to a brick wall, lol 😆 flipping useless and I was only after a case for me meter, I'm liking that hioki you reviewed may have to get one of them aswell, good bye 👋

    Well
    Finally someone is comparing Flir vs fluke!!
    Flir has been bashed as Extech!!! Many techs are afraid of Flir.
    Flukes are great meters but you end up buying 2 or even 3 meters due to lack of features; especially for HVAC!!!
    Flir is up and coming fast! Just untested!!
    That is where fluke wins easily.

      @KissAnalog  4 роки тому

      I agree, the Fluke meters are still kind of old school - they just haven't added features, and why would they? Big companies buy them by the truckload just because they are proven. They don't even consider another brand. I like Extech too - and for the price they are hard to beat. They too come with an outside agency test certification - or at least the ones that I have seen do. The FLIR is built very impressively. Thank you for the feedback!!

      Yeah, except the 902FC’s and 37x series Flukes were recalled for failed safeties. Lots of 902FC users report the current clamp failing after 6 months. My $100 UEI never had that problem. I don’t mind paying for reliability and safety in a meter but when Fluke offers neither of those and lack features in a Chinese built meter then what are you paying for?

    You say the Flukes don’t have a low-pass filter for VFDs, but the 289 and 87 certainly do. The 87 also has 10x better basic DC accuracy than the Flir reviewed here, the 289, 20x. It surprises me that you’d prefer the Flir despite its rather low accuracy specs.
    I realize accuracy isn’t everything. I also realize I’m being a bit critical, but you should make sure your statements are accurate so your viewers aren’t misled.

    • @d...c...
      @d...c... Рік тому +1

      Looks like I was myself misled by the Flir website, which says this: “DC Voltage
      Max Range 1000.0V / Basic Accuracy ±0.5%”

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  Рік тому

      Thanks for pointing this out. I did miss on the VFD, the 289 and 87 do have a 'low pass' filter, but I missed when I searched for this as back 17 years ago when the 289 came out it wasn't common to call it VFD, and the 87 is even much older. Also, I meant to compare this more to the 179 as it is closer in price to the FLIR, although the 179 is still over $100 more than the FLIR. The 87 actually is almost the same in accuracy in every category as the FLIR and it cost $200 more. The Flir is better in AC voltage accuracy. The 289 is almost the same as the FLIR except it is 2x better in DCV but is 2 digits off vs 1 digit for the FLIR so that brings the 2x down a bit depending on the range. The 289 is more than 2x the cost of the FLIR and almost 2x heavier. The closer you look - the better the FLIR looks. Also the Ingress protection is much better on the FLIR as well as the FLIR having a 3 meter drop compared to the 1 meter drop test on both the 87 and the 289. FLIR is a far better buy.

    Funny how many flir meters are junk now. They don’t last long and have lots of reliability issues. FLIR doesn’t support right to repair either. For a screen that they don’t manufacture, you have to send it to them. Literally plugging in a ribbon cable, 1 second job.
    Their meters have serious issues. Don’t waste your money. Gimmicky and high prices. If they were reliable, might be a different story.

    • @KissAnalog

      Wow I haven’t heard anything bad about FLIR Multimeters. I’ve had a couple and they have been great! They have an excellent warranty. I bought one used from Amazon that went through batteries way too fast - so FLIR replaced it for free and didn’t even ask for the bad one back. The parts inside look like standard parts and the chips are standard part numbers too - so they seem easy to repair if the warranty wasn’t so good. Amazon shows 4.6 stars out of over 2400 ratings - and that is pretty darn good for a multimeter. I also checked other sites that show ratings as well and they are mostly 5 stars. What kind of serious issues are you aware of? Also the features are amazing and not gimmicky at all. Maybe you are used to Fluke that hasn’t come up with a new meter in 20 years and doesn’t have the new features. I’d be very interested in any reliable source where you get this information.
