"HR are not your friend. They're not there to protect you. They're there to protect the company *from* you" - more than one of my university lecturers.
I can concur this statement. The HR here at my hospital are more useless than dog crap. They will do just about anything to shield the hospital from liability rather than doing right by it’s employees.
True. Then you see them posting things in LinkedIn like: 'dear companies, if you don't capacitate employees, there won't be experienced workers bla bla bla' but it's all bs and a fraud because they really don't care about workers. It's OK if part of your job is to protect the company, but at least don't bullshit the workers.
Same thing happened to me at 2 jobs. Sexual harassment from my bosses and bc I was an 18 year old girl at the time I didn't know what to do but go to HR and was fired. I fought the second firing and they had to pay unemployment because they had no proof I ever did anything wrong. Never be loyal to a company. They aren't a person and don't care about you. Always stand up for yourself, even if it's scary. You don't deserve to be taken advantage of because you're young and vulnerable
I really can't stand how HR tries to masquerade as some sort of workplace equivalent of a school counselor. And how behind the scenes the mock/ridicule/trick the REAL workers.
The Human Resources department is exactly that - a department that views humans as resources. Worked at Dish Network’s main headquarters for 3 years. Towards the end, I went to HR with some issues, and right after that my jack wagon of a boss started in on me with the stuff I said to HR. When he gave me a new project (start translating this project out of a coding language that nobody on the team knew, and have progress to show tomorrow morning while he takes off for the afternoon), I knew that was the rope they were planning on slipping around my neck tomorrow. Packed my shit up and left at the end of the day. There is a GOOD reason why Dish Network is held up as an example in business schools as how NOT to run your company. Oh, the stories…
2 stories. HR for one job came to bat for me when an employee altered an email I had sent, accusing me of bullying because she constantly messed up. Another company my manager refused to answer questions, wouldn't train me, and lied to make it look like I made a major mistake, but it was obvious they made it up, and when HR packed my crap they threw everything in a box, breaking my new phone. Unemployment saw through their BS so it worked out.
I knew someone who worked in HR and her boss had it in for her. Basics sabotaged her chances of promotion and raises. She left to work in a different department and is much happier. It was like working with a toddler who constantly threw tantrums
One thing I learned was to not take surveys from HR or corporate. They really take those things seriously and will weed out any weak links for "complaining too much" and ultimately letting them go. Then again, the company was circling the drain anyway starting with the CEO and CFO getting canned. Oh well.
Esrly in my career, I called HR to complain about my boss, who was coming down hard on a co-worker. I was placed on a 'performance improvement plan' two days later and fired a week after that, even though I had been lauded as a stellar performer prior to going to HR. Turns out my 'anonymous' complaint was relayed to my boss the minute I left HR's workspace. HR is NEVER on your side, no matter what they say. They are there ONLY to protect the organization and their interests.
Last company had an "anonymous" tipline that could be accessed through the company's web portal. Coworker used it to complain about some BS going on in the dumpster fire of a department he worked in and in less than an hour he's in HR being grilled over his "anonymous" tip.
The way I see it: I can have anonymity to my concerns, or you can have my animosity for failure to address that in a fair and safe way. One or the other.
Today, any time you get pulled into an unscheduled meeting, you have your cellphone on you and on record. And no, I don't give a flying F if your state is a two-party consent state. If I'm going down, I'm taking you with me, and the recording will be all over the Internet before the next morning. Also: It's wise to have an old, non-working cellphone on you, just in case you need to "check your cellphone at the door before entering the meeting." F All. Pardon me for being cynical.
Pro tip: surveys aren't anonymous either. When you're at work, act like every place is either being audio or video recorded. The more they say "we're one big happy family" the less likely it's true. PIPs are a prelude to dismissal, best to either accept a severance and find another gig. The PIP will almost always be written in a vague way to make sure you can't achieve the results. HR will glom onto every single trendy cause or "awareness". You will be foisted with many useless trainings and mandatory lectures, because they're looking to show how "valuable" they are while making other employees less efficient.
I work for a small construction company, our HR is my boss's wife. There are only two people in the whole company that don't despise her, and one of them is her husband who lives in constant fear of her. She believes the whole world (and especially us employees) is out to get her and she is determined to get us first. A few examples of her "antics" enclude: Letting a new employee (19 years old) take all his sick time and all but one day of his vacation time when he was severely ill, then after he returns to work tell him that if he had been absent literally one more day he would have qualified for some kind of "severe sick leave" which would have compensated him for the two weeks without him having to use his time off. But since he missed the deadline, oh well. This happened in February. She uses an outdated computer system to manage payroll, which a fellow office employee has suggested she get rid of in favor of a much simpler app that takes a fraction of the time on multiple occasions. Her and this employee hate each other. On one particular occasion, this employee stayed at least an hour overtime on a jobsite to make sure a fire alarm system was up and running as he was the only one in the company at the time who knew how to program them. That night there was another glitch in the payroll system, which not only didn't recognize the employee's OT, but also said he worked less than 40 hours that week. HR obviously knew where he was and what he was doing, and that the system was to blame, but she decided to go with the system and claim he didn't work a full 40, and therefore payed him for less than a full week's work. I think in the end he got the money he was owed, but the fact remains that she had a lucky opportunity to spite someone she hates for a real dollar amount, and she took it. She hates one of our foremen in particular because she thinks he is overpaid, despite being the most experienced guy the company has, who is highly valued by one of the company's biggest clients personally. When it came time for this foreman to get a raise she filed it into the computer, but instead of a full dollar as he was promised she filed in 99 cents. She was literally so petty that she shorted him a penny, just to mess with him. It was about 6 months before he found out, and when he confronted our boss about it he covered for his wife and claimed it was a problem with the percentage input, and that it would be fixed. There was a guy who worked at the company before I was hired on who she screwed with constantl, eventually causing him to quit. The straw that broke the camel's back came when his mother died. He took at least a week off to grieve, filing bereavement pay in conjunction with company policy as laid out in the company handbook which she wrote. He returns from his time off to discover that he had not been paid at all during his time off, as she had altered company policy regarding bereavement pay during his absence without notifying him. When he brought this to the boss, he took the employee to the back storage room and gave him some old electrical breakers (admittedly big ones,) and told him to sell them to help cover his lost wages. He also asked the employee to not let HR know that he (the boss) had done this for him. Did I mention how her biggest fear is getting sued, and how she all but tells us that many of the ridiculous policies she imposes on us is to cover her ass in case we want to pursue legal action against her or the company?
10:27 it's not an isolated incident. Where I worked the turnover was typical, but of the 6 supervisors, there was ONE supervisor who had like an 85% HIGHER turnover (either they quit or they transferred off this team). He was this 5'4 little person that used his power to compensate for his short stature (earned the nickname Mighty Mouse and "Nap" short for Napoleon as many said he had a Napoleon complex). I was stuck on his team and couldn't deal with him so I quit. In the exit interview I told them he was the reason I quit and they said, they had other incidents with him. I told them that I also LET THEM KNOW HE WAS ABUSING HIS POWERS, WHICH JUST RESULTED IN HIM TREATING ME WORSE AND I DOUBTED ANYTHING WOULD CHANGE.
A relative of mine worked hr/payroll. She once bragged about getting rid of a worker who had not been paid properly. She told the person that it was a problem one the banks end, knowing full well that it was her error. Oh and the reason she did it was that it was late... on a Friday... before a 3 day weekend and she didn't want to have to stay after hours to fix the problem. So sad.
the story that showed up on 18:33. . . that's when you call OSHA and rat them the fuck out. Every last detail, every dangerous good, with days and times. Then to top it all off with the "company restructuring" after getting talked to by HR.
I used to work as a Surg Tech in a Hospital, they handed me a clip board and attached was a stack of sheets to fill out "Things maintainance needed to fix" had me send copies to MT and OSHA... Former occupation was Supervisor of a Construction Company. After 3 days I had filled out about 23 or so papers just for the surgery floor alone. OSHA had called screaming, MT was flipping shit, the CEO was complaining about all the fines, DON was screaming and I was just sitting quietly smiling. Doug slammed his fist down and said explain yourself, I dead pan say, "If others did half as much work as I did, your MT wouldn't be over paid $35 an hour bulb twisters... If they did 1 big project a week over the last 12 years your hospital rooms wouldn't be over run with MF staph infection, and if you want to fire me so be it, I did the job but I also made a photo copy of each work order and emails recieved on my work account were forwarded to my personal account and I will use them to defend myself in my future employment." All their mouths fell open, they just told me I was needed in surgery. I went to the 4th and as I got off the elevator met a salesman trying to setup a "Show/Tell with Doctors" mistook my poor ass as a doctor and asked me what people would want to eat and hear about using I looked over at his brochures and said that, we need that, and he said "Great, about the food!" I wrote him a quick list, he left and spent about $700 brought it back and I was in surgery. Doctors are running in the room getting food and leaving and laugjing their asses off, banging on the viewing window and give me a thumbs up. Hours later Doug walks down to fire me and he wants to make this public and soon as he does many doctors say to him "We aren't operating here anymore we will perform surgery at "X" from now on" Doug turns red and looks at me and said "those documents you have are company property and I can have you reported for theft" I said... "go for that hope my personal records help you achieve that goal in the short term because there isn't any trade secrets and I'm not bound in contract to any conditions that prevent such a thing on my part." I stayed till a drunk driver hit me.. And the fines... They had to pay out 1.2 million a month in fines for 13 months. Exposed wiring, and so so so much more.
@@johnnyguillotine1673 That equates to 15.6 million dollars, sweet chip ahoy. Why the fuck would you try to screw with the guy who has mountains of evidence against your company for all the illegal shit you've done. All the while OSHA is kicking your ass for said illegal shit, that the person your threatening told them about.
The only time I really dealt with HR: I was going in at 5am to work when we opened at 8am. My car was stolen. Called cops, filled out report, and managed to find a ride to get to work on time at 5am. My 3 work polos were in my car, so I had no work shit. At open I told the hr lady my car was stolen and it had my work polos in it, can I get some more? Bitch gave me attitude for me losing the $5 shirts and said it was my fault.
That'd be when you drop them like they did those shirts. They think you're worth getting angry at and blaming for losing shirts *when your literal car was stolen*. Shows where their priorities are, and it isn't with you.
"You dont have bad jobs, just bad bosses", had a bad boss myself, she was new and didnt have much authority yet and suddenly threatened to fire me while getting in my face because i wasnt making enough food, and when I did complained about how there was too much and some of them were getting burned, quit the same day by being petty and leaving my work clothes while driving away during a heavy shift.
Lol ok there bud Mabye try communism looks at oh what’s that communist China is just as corporate and unregulated, only now you have a huge dictatorship as well? Sounds delightful!!
My ex had similar issues at her work(huge local car dealership). I told her that's what the labor department is for, she talked with them, they fired her when they found out she did that and got a really nice bonus when she emailed them all the illegal things they did with the contacts to all our local news sources incase " they wanted to comment on the activities ". It was funny as hell cause they kept calling for months afterwards offering her the job back
"If i had a dollar for every boomer that called me a millennial snowflake, id be able to buy a house in the market they destroyed." Thats really really funny
I was just saying it was funny. YOU decided i wanted to wax philisophocal about it. No. Just no. Did i get into the details of the subject? No i did not. This is NOT a debate and im not asigning blame! Which is the real reason you said something you felt blamed by or the need to defend someone. I was merely laughing about something i found funny at the time , a one time laugh your gonna debate me when i was only laughing. Way to be real good job being the fun police really cracking down on those good times huh? The worlds not fucked up enough some butthurt idiot has to misread the situation? Go home love your family make the most of everything and be grateful for every minute NOT BECAUSE OF ME to be clear but BECAUSE no one gets more time. Nobody. The FINITE amout makes it INFINATELY important. Who knows how much time any of us and/or the world has. GO AND ENJOY YOUR LIFE AND STAY OUT OF MINE. I didnt ask for a lesson
1. I was fired after being threatened by a female co-worker. I had 3 witnesses backing me up too. 2. I was written up for asking a question about time sheets and overtime. They basically said I refused to comply, even though everything had been filled out. 3. This will be the next one as we have been skeleton crew for years and people want vacations. I normally take the extra shifts on a flat-rate overtime (they initially refused to pay because I am salaried, but when it was obvious no one would step up, they relented). Because we were all denied cost-of-living raises this year, I want double. No one will work my shift. Even I want some serious PTO as I have gone some 3 years w/o.
Dude, where ever you are now, get out. The ship is sinking, all the signs are there - not hiring people but whining about OT and not letting anyone have time off. The place you are at is doomed. Get out now and if you have a 401(k) roll it over immediately before they start tapping into those funds.
@@carlfromtheoc1788 The market has been so stupid since 2007 that I refused to participate in a 401K. Using that money for better options right now. There is an unlimited PTO policy and I decided to abuse the fuck out of it. I want to see who will cry first. I am also encouraging all of my co-workers to have some down time too. After this last year, we could all use it, even if we aren't going anywhere. I am pre-scheduling 2 weeks off every 3 months and see when they will start denying. My goal is to have them break their policy and say that unlimited doesn't really mean unlimited.
As someone who works in HR most of these make me cringe. Giving out personal information of employees is a huge NO. In the defense for some of these, HR is often not payed as mauch as you think and the workload can be excruciating since a lot of management departments see HR as just a giant secretary department for everything they're too lazy to do.
Once HR used me to get someone else fired, I have a speech impediment and my Ts come out like B,s Long story short a girl with amazing boots was showing off to me, and reported me to HR, they fired her.
My HR department stopped being an issue when they all got fired. Their manager was frequently drunk on the job and I reported it to the district manager. I also reported that HR was enabling her by covering up her drinking problem. Afterwards, I was tasked with re-staffing the HR department from the ground up. The new hires weren't always perfect, but we never tolerate unethical behavior.
@@angelgjr1999 what? what did you not understand? His t's come out as b's she obviously told HR he said she had nice b""bs and they fired her for discriminating against an employee . They used his disability to sack someone. Really it wasn't that hard and this wasn't really necessary.
My HR person was sleeping with my married boss. At work. While they were on the clock. In a country where it’s considered criminal sexual harassment for HR to be physically or romantically involved with any employees. We had teenage National service volunteers who would find them canoodling in dark corners all the time. When we ended up having to work overtime to pick up boss’s slack, general manager sent out a passive aggressive email about too much unapproved overtime.
I mean it's great if you work for a company that hr comes down hard on your managers instead of you. I've seen the shittiest employees being left along because the called hr. It's a beautiful thing. But yeah hr in most places is a shit show.
I worked at Amazon. I had 8 different family members pass away in the span of 4 months. 4 of those members were not eligible for paid leave, 4 were. Regardless of whether or not the leave was paid, Amazon had a policy that let us leave immediately upon receiving news of death or a family member currently dying and no penalty would be taken against us. I took Bereavement every time. The issues only started when I took paid bereavement leave. All of a sudden it was a huge burden on them for me to take off so much and HR threatened fraud charges against me. I told them do not bother because they can fuck off and I quit on the spot.
From Dilbert: Catbert, Evil HR Director, "Willy, you are sleeping on the job, that is like stealing from the company." Willy, to Catbert, "You work in HR, that is like stealing from the company."
I work for a small family-owned company. During a company meeting the 'business adviser' who the company had hired told us all about the wonderful HR team they had contracted, obviously at his suggestion of the idea. I piped up because I don't give a shit and said "Everybody knows HR departments are only there to keep the company out of hot water. They don't give a shit about the employees". We had an HR dept for about a month I think before the owners told them to take a hike. One of the owners used the word 'crackpots'.
In an informal group setting, informing one of the higher ranking HR folks that the last micro-aggression/anti-bias video had a flaw - all the bad things were done by white men, except two, which were done by white women. That training has not been repeated.
@@smartchip it's an insurance company. You either have to be military, married to military, or work there to have them. They have multi million dollar contracts with the government. They love to sue other people for their members. Example: my gf got 2 vehicles totaled last year (neither her fault) they sued the other drivers both times for the full value of the vehicles plus more, her medical expenses and more. She ended up paying. Nothing, got enough money both times to buy upgraded vehicles with cash
My GF's HR department tried to get her in trouble for leaving work early to go to the ER to deal with a well documented medical condition. Fortunately the HR bid wig wouldn't have it.
In all my years working as a mid-level manager, I never saw any bad behaviour from HR people. But after my employer was bought up by a large multinational, I started doing some work in their other offices. Never saw anything bad there either, but I noticed that all the regular staff had a bad attitude toward the HR people. I got to know a few of them and I found out they really felt alone and were never included in anything social. However, I've dealt with the "little Hitler" mentality in other middle-managers, and I can imagine how bad it could be if HR people were like that. I've been lucky. Sorry for everyone who has been given the shaft by HR.
16:30 faaark. If the guy was a convicted sexual offender, you should have talked to the cops. Of course that is a lot for a scared 19 year old to do when the rapist would be able to access her home address.
My Ex got a contract for her third year at her company. thats unlawful in germany. after the second year u cant have another temporary contract. my ex asked the workers council about it and they talked to the executive and she got fired. Biggest pile of shit i ever saw done by workers council.
Ironically, as a lawyer, that's not the most ridiculous shift of blame I have seen. Some people want to make the world bear the consequences of their own stupidity.
I worked for a very well known sports clothing company. Couple of store managers had massive complaint against HR manager, they gave the investigation to that same HR manager to resolve. Nice.
What often happens is someone in the HR department ends up dating or sleeping with other employees. Confidential information gets out, and you can't put the genie back into the bottle. I've seen it happen more than once. You have to be careful what information you reveal to HR to begin with.
Lol in 2021? Bruh you been sleeping or some thing? Now a days they will can you azz if you posted a joke who some one took offense to, and trust me they will find an excuse to fire you.
I was in a major car accident (hit by a drunk driver) with my 11 month old. HR made sure to do the bare minimum and i missed in benefits I was paying for because I was a little distracted at the time with my injuries and my child's spinal fractures. Because if this I also lost my health insurance becausenit was through work and I wasnt working. Long story stort I now make their lives a living hell through every legal means possible. Wait last minute to send reports, spam them with shit for my employees. Had I not been injured and high on drugs I would have known the right questions to ask but instead I was like 'what do you need from me', stayed in constant contact and they still pulled the "company policy is you have to ask" card.
One U.S. Navy ship I served on had a morale questionnaire. One sailor made the following statement, “I wouldn’t sentence a man that had molested my three year old daughter to serve on this ship!”
Man, these types of threads make me so very happy that I am no longer working in corporate America. Teaching may have its downsides, but I love my students and anyone who doesn't like the way I'm teaching can go pound salt if I'm doing my very best. Plus, I'm willing to help feed your kids during the day (not all junk food, either) and they call me the school grandma. Definitely better than being in the private sector. Oh, my god did that ever suck.
I worked for a small pizza joint. H.r were the owners. One day 1 of h.r asked me what they could improve. I said " a free pizza for any shift worked over 10 hours would be nice". Instead they let everyone who worked a 8 hour shift a free pizza or similar value ( up to 10 bucks. Might not sound like much but remember. It's how YOU wanted your pizza). If you worked 10 or more hours a shift you got whatever you wanted ( including beer) . I miss that place.
I had been working at a company for minimum wage for multiple years. They hired a guy that had been working in general for less time than I'd been working at just this company, and were paying him multiple dollars more than me. Fucking scumbags
If you go into a job expecting HR to back you up, then you are naive or a fool, or both. Their job is to put the company first at all costs, sometimes this means that they will sometimes find in favour of an employee instead of a manager, but that's only when it has been decided that it would be easier financially and PR-wise to get rid of the manager than to back them. If the HR department finds it in your favour, it's not because they feel it was the right thing to do, it was because they were forced to either due to money, PR and/or law. Basically, they won't do the right thing because it is the right thing to do, they do it because they've been compelled to. HR is NOT and will NEVER be your friend.
Worked a couple of years at a midwest chain in Minnesota called Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market. Everything was going great. Got along with coworkers, managers, and everyone else in the store. Well, just last year I had to get an extensive knee surgery done, which in turn would put me out of work for a few months. Management knew about it, HR knew about it, basically everyone knew as I’ve told them it was coming up. The day came where I had to leave for the surgery and HR said my job would be safe and I can come back when I’m all healed up. Well, it was all going good. Surgery went well, and about a month goes by and I get a letter from corporate saying that I was terminated for being away for too long. In other words: job abandonment. Found out later that HR lady got fired for not doing her job. She never got the proper paperwork done, and as a result, I was fired. Corporate said I was eligible for re-hire in their letter, but I said that I wasn’t gonna come back to a job where management was gonna stab me in in the back. Since then I’ve gotten a steady job at Lowe’s and I don’t mind it one bit. TL;DR: Went on leave for surgery, HR didn’t do their job by getting paperwork done, HR lady got fired, and corporate fired me because they thought I committed job abandonment.
Holy shit, I'm so damn thankful that stuff like that couldn't be pulled off where I live. Being threatened with losing your job and blamed for shit you didn't do, yikes.
If all hospital HR’s are all like ours, don’t bother complaining, nothing will get done. Our hospital has a bullying culture and lots of managers etc have had complaints made against them and HR always supports the managers and bullies, not the person being bullied. The hospital then wonders why they have a large turnover of staff and cannot get people to stay!
Manager of a different department of my old job had it out for any female staff around the same age would make me do stuff that wasn’t my department on threats of write ups and yelled at me for being slow (despite my actual manager telling me I was actually one of not the fastest in our department and often that I had extra time and helped out others with tasks) eventually another staff member shoved me and caused me to have a mild PTSD attack turns out nasty manager is also HR ! and wrote me up for overreacting despite it being told to all managers that I’m disabled (autism and Anxiety problems) Ended up with the attack getting worse ended up calling my parents and walking out on their advice
I remember giving HR a chance to remedy a false complaint that they took the side of the other employee (cause she just called) but when I was in the meeting I pulled out a bunch of docs that had signatures, audio recording, and videos. They tried to write me up for sexual harassment and tried firing me. I served her stupid ass with a my lawyers letter of representation and a subpoena for any docs related to the case. Note: She reported me cause she was out of uniform (tights with ugs) in a job were we needed ppe. I got 5 months leave with pay and found a new job.
Time Theft. I had a spiteful manager that hauled me in to their office and accused me of time theft and threatened me with suspension, civil action or firing. Because I came in a few minutes EARLY to gather up supplies I needed to do my job because my department manager would not order the supplies I needed and have them in the departments I could do my job. I never charged them for this time.I burst out laughing and told manager that is not how Time Theft works. Manager got really mad but realized I actually knew about time theft. So they back peddled, and while still threatening me, assured me that nothing about this would be placed in writing in my file. Of course I wanted it in writing because that would be now libel with written proof. Manager babbled away about nothing, repeated their verbal warning, and dismissed me. I laughed and was accused for 'not taking this seriously'. 🤣🤣🤣
I was unfortunate to have worked somewhere with an HR lady that was a duplicitous and malicious witch. The worst case of her behavior that I know of follows. She told a girl belly-aching over somethings two of her co-workers had said that she was correct and that she would come down on the guys. The HR witch then told the guys that the complainer was the problem, and not to worry about it and that she would rein the complainer in. So the guys kept razzing the complainer. The complainer complains again and HR and management fired the two guys. I know this is how it went down for a lot of reasons, but mostly because the HR witch's assistant shared what was happening to me as it developed. I didn't understand the ramifications of what the assistant was telling me, and so failed to warn the two guys. One of those cases of not being jaded enough. This same HR witch once told me, encouraged me, that having a beer at lunch before returning to work was completely fine. An obvious setup to try and get me fired for being impaired at work. I simply told her that I do not drink any time during work hours. She looked disappointed with that response. Best I can tell, all of the HR witch's malicious behavior and deceit was just to sooth some inner child that needed validation.
My last job. Food warehousing. I caught our inventory mgr passing on his mistakes to the Picking and S/D department. I called him out, with proof. I was suspended. And subsiquently terminated. Little did I know at the time, but the HR director and Inventory mgr were in the closet, and dating. I figured this out as the HR was abnormally overprotective of Inventory mgr. After my termination, I called both of them out on favoritism, called them out on it to Crew and other Managers, and forced them out of the closet. This, however is not the final stroke. I have been in this industry for decades. I have contacted some of my connections. I'm going to be able to get a job with a company I already know well. Probably in May. This company is the industry leader. Coincidentally, old companies contract with a multi million dollars company runs out soon after. The bidding war will be on. New company will win. They will have the ability to drop my Name, give more reliable service, and has the national and international support to do so. This all because a middle mgr was a slacker.
I GOT AIRTAGGED AT MY JOB AND THEY DID NOTHING ABOUT IT!! THE GUY WHO DID IT STILL WORKS THERE AND EVERYTIME I WENT TO GET AN UPDATE THEY DISMISSED ME! Last time I went they pretty much yelled at me and made me cry because I felt so unsupported and uncomfortable because the guy was still there.
HR... seeing humanity as a resource to be exploited. Worst case I had was a warning as they didn't like the ex delegate getting a goodbye card from staff ,warning was called wage theft for asking people to sign the card .I was like sure ill sign that thanks for not firing me..later on same company is fined for under paying staff ..and the delegate a 250K payout (rumours non disclosed )
HR is there for regulatory compliance to the countless laws and regulations. The need for it creates barriers of entry for upstart businesses; thereby creating favorable conditions for existing large companies
Whenever I have to interact with HR I have my phone hidden and recording audio, incase I have to get in contact with a lawyer afterwards if shady shit happens. HR is there to protect the Company, not you, you aren't the one that pays them. Always record any audio of your company conversations incase you need to "use their word against their word", this has literally saved my ass more times then I'd like to admit
@@josepherhardt164 I've seen first hand and heard way too many stories about people reporting something to HR only to be fired within a week or so for unknown or strange reasons, I don't know if their claims were false or not but I'm not going to risk doing the right thing only to get fired without a possible slam dunk Wrongful Termination lawsuit on my side
heavy penalty to their unemployment insurance... unfortuanately thats not how it works, how many valid claims you have vs how many employees(how much you pay in), and what the unemployment money balance is with the state determins this.
I always got along with my HR person, and I love that person so much. I might be lucky because my work is extremely good and I'm a college student who works on campus, so it's a different kind of job for me since I'm a student. But even if not, I know they are a great person and HR. I hope to work more closely with them someday. I actually do still have to be careful because no matter how nice and cool your HR is, or even how much you're liked by them and your bosses, work is still work and HR is not your friend. They literally can't be friends with employees because of the nature of their jobs. Plus I hear so many stories about HR. I feel bad for everyone who has had a negative experience with HR in their company, hopefully I'll never have to.
Yeah, but you don't get anything out of that. Because of the false report on OP, OP could sue for libel and defamation. And his/her attorney would be laughing all the way to the bank.
That's all true about USAA. They are the bomb. I've had two instances where I was not at fault, the other party tried some sketchy sh!t, and USAA was like, "Oh yeah, we love taking these scumbags down!" It's almost like they're your accident attorney.
Got dizzy at work. I was almost out of points and didn’t want to leave because of this. They pretty much made me leave without helping at all…when I came back I was written up and put on probation for 1 year. And I’m just like but I didn’t ask to leave…y’all told me to, it’s ok…
Hey y’all if a company asks you to “retire or leave without being fired” DO NOT TAKE IT of your not fired but they are forcing you to leave you can’t file for unemployment
The only time I have seen an HR department that gives a shit n does their job right (as in looks out for the well being of the human being in the company instead of the company itself) is working at Montréal Comiccon. N with the exception of the head of the department none of them get paid anything, comicon staff work for free (we don't have to pay to be there obviously but r so busy we rarely get to see much), so basically if u give someone money for telling everyone wut the rules r all day every day, they'll probably abuse the power but if u give them that power only for a weekend n they know that they'll get no rest for 3 days n do it all for no pay, only people who care about people will do it. Also helps that my ex roommate has been friends with one of the HR guys since they were kids so when he said the others were trust worthy I believed him (ya some people fall thru the cracks n r shit but they usually don't last more than the 1 con)
Not only keep backups, but print them out showing all the sending/source codes at the top of the email. And forward it to your personal email (actually one you've set up for this so there's no access to your personal business). If they say you cut and pasted, print it as a screen shot. That should put a thumbtack in their buttocks.
You gotta treat hr seriously and stop any negative talk towsrds you ON THE SPOT. Here are some choice words I've used that you should give it a try. Also if hr wants a meeting with you, inform them as soon as we get my direct supervisor, if they say no then tell them thats rather unprofessional. You're on break? "We can talk right after lunch after I clock back in." Right there in front of everyone.
Worked at a big box retailer and they had a "voluntary" meeting that we were told we had to attend on union's. I walked out on the meeting saying that 1--you claim all the items are facts in the video but as soon as you use words like "might" and "possibly" it stops being facts and are then opinions 2-- the video claims we can refuse the attend a meeting about unions and I am invoking that right 3-- I've been a member of a union and if you are so afraid of a union starting then you need to look at why they'd try to set up here
I got one for this, but its a long story 2 years ago I worked for a company that was contracted with Amazon, about four months before I left they just hired this new guy wasn't paying attention and ended up hitting my car tearing the front bumper off Supervisor then said he would cover the cost but wanted me to go to some guy he knew in downtown LA which was a 3.5 hr drive and it would take this guy a week to get it done Couldn't find any information on his guys so I insisted that I take it to a local Body Shop gave him quotes he refused them all and I was forced to go to his guy this guy has my car for 10 days and doesn't even do a proper job He just did a shoddy job of remounting the bumper when everywhere else I went stated that I needed a whole new one, as many of the mounts had been broken When I saw how bad of a job this guy did I brought it to my supervisor saying that he had given his word that it would be like new and even had emails and text messages between us backing this up He basically laughed in my face so I went to HR they then proceeded to ghost me for three months until I was dragged into the meeting room at the warehouse where it was my supervisor, my dispatcher, and the HR representative HR then started reprimanding me for the smallest offences as well as claiming that I was harassing them and then proceeded to fire me. My dispatcher later apologized because he was not on board with this and knew that I was in the right Got my revenge though because I began working for another third-party Amazon company that was in the same warehouse and all of the drivers that work for my first company ended up leaving because they didn't want to deal with a supervisor and HR that just intimidated them into doing what they wanted and the company went under 1 month after I left
If someone falsely accused me of a vehicular offense, on paper, in an official report, there would be a libel and defamation suit up their azzzz before they knew it.
I sat in a meeting as the hospital CEO began to lecture me about the situation..... She said in the future Sue blaa blaa....l am not Sue! Sue was sitting behind the her. I had worked at that small hospital for 15 years.
We have a saying here. If you find yourself on a road and you see a snake and HR person next to one another, and you just so happen to carrying a big stick, beat the HR person first.
14:47 Fred Meyer = Kroger = Garbage company run by garbage people. One of the most corrupt companies I've ever worked for. The union there, UFCW, is just as bad. This story does not surprise me one bit. I saw similar things happen when I worked there, and fell victim to their shenanigans myself. You see, I had a beef with my immediate supervisor, but since he was the store manager's favorite and had 20 years seniority on me, I was moved to a different department and given less hours. Then the union canceled my health insurance due to a technicality, and their response to me was basically, "So sue me!" Yeah, they REALLY care about the working man. Fun fact: The UFCW likes to put these little stories about how they helped employees who were being mistreated by the company in their newsletter. I researched a few, and they were all FAKE. Completely made up propaganda. Just consider that next time you think unions are a good thing. They're just as exploitative and corrupt as the companies they claim to be protecting workers from.
You can tell what companies have faced lawsuits. HR is not the employees friend, bit they are there to protect the company. So If a situation arose that would result in a massive lawsuit, they would take action to cover the companies ass. If not they think they can keep doing it and face no repercussions.
Two things: - Be aware that if you work for a small company (in my case, less than 20 employees), there probably is no HR. The boss/owner is HR and having been backed into walls and yelled at for being 10 minutes late after notifying that I would be 10 minutes late and screamed at because I wouldn't let them make a mistake... yeah... there is no recourse for that. - This isn't HR being crappy specifically, but I did leave a job over this: I had a "God's chicken" fast food job for about a year, and 9 months in they hire this middle aged man who was a friend of the operator. He used to be a pastor and his family needed a break or whatever. He got fast tracked to be a manager. Fine. He wasn't ready, but whatever. Seemed a genuinely nice guy. Anyway, one day after work, I had a meltdown over a personal health issue I was having in my car, off the clock. He happened to be parked next to me and came out to grab something, noticed I was crying hard, and asked if I was okay. I honestly don't remember my answer, but whatever it was, it wasn't an invitation to talk. He asked what was wrong and I said I didn't want to talk about it. He wouldn't leave me alone, and I was so upset I blurted it out. He kept bringing it up to me at work and on the clock and I kept telling him to stop bringing it up. Thanked him for the concern, but to leave it alone. He wouldn't. Then he started touching my back/shoulders occasionally. Had he never butted into my business, I wouldn't have cared, but both things together felt too intimate. He also said something that made it feel as if he thought I needed his concern because I wasn't actually married yet. Wtf??? My fiance knew this upset me, so before I could talk to a director about it, he did. Director was a total yes man to my fiance but later told me that I should have just told this guy "No, I don't want to talk about it". He said he'd still speak to the guy about it, but made me feel like it was my fault for him not leaving me alone. I never heard anything about it and I had already been worn out of the job for a while, so I quit and mentioned that as a factor in my notice. Handed it to the other director who was more sympathetic and understood that I did, in fact, say no and that telling someone to "just say no" doesn't cut it. He then told me that it HAD been addressed by the GM and operator. I told him that it would have been nice to have been told it had been dealt with. I didn't want or need an apology, I just wanted to know there had been follow through. Sometimes intentions by "HR" are good, but they just don't cut it.
I was once suspended for posting “I understand the pain people who shoot themselves over depression and wish it wasn’t a thing” the said my post could “encourage” someone. Once I said the L word they were all of a sudden buddy buddy. Screw them
You think HR is crooked? You should see the blatant graft going on in purchasing. No need to wonder why your perfectly good equipment and supplies was replaced with overpriced crap.
Not HR, but a cash office lady, she was good friends with HR so she got the inside scoop of a lot of stuff. I was having a problem with a coworker, he would always be swearing at me and just giving me a really hard time after a week of him starting. I reported it to HR, whom told Cash office lady, who in turn told my coworker because she liked him. He turned around, made a lot of accusations against me that trumped my report of workplace bullying. "He does drugs, cocaine, meth, pot, ice, tried to run me over with his car in the only place where there's no camera, says nasty shit under his breath, went to attack me once when I confronted him, says stuff like he wants me dead" things of which almost got me arrested. I was lucky to have other coworkers immediately jump in on my side and wrote statements that none of this happened. Result? It all got dropped, HR lady still in work, cash office lady had no repercussions, and everything got dropped between me and the coworker, even my initial report of bullying. Which made the whole thing a waste of time and now the coworker is much more of an asshole because he got away with it. I have however been fired recently for punching him and breaking his nose, I've had to pull up these old reports to show in court that I have reported this and my work did little to stop it. I do have my coworkers to back this up, the dickhead coworker is trying to go for a full sue and someone told me he's trying to go for a couple of million, which I'm guessing was his plan in the first place. his dad got a large sum of money because of a workplace accident.

And how behind the scenes the mock/ridicule/trick the REAL workers.
what did you think school counselors do when others aren't around?
Please sir, may I have some more?
A few examples of her "antics" enclude:
Letting a new employee (19 years old) take all his sick time and all but one day of his vacation time when he was severely ill, then after he returns to work tell him that if he had been absent literally one more day he would have qualified for some kind of "severe sick leave" which would have compensated him for the two weeks without him having to use his time off.
🤭
exactly
If they did 1 big project a week over the last 12 years your hospital rooms wouldn't be over run with MF staph infection, and if you want to fire me so be it, I did the job but I also made a photo copy of each work order and emails recieved on my work account were forwarded to my personal account and I will use them to defend myself in my future employment."
All their mouths fell open, they just told me I was needed in surgery.
I went to the 4th and as I got off the elevator met a salesman trying to setup a "Show/Tell with Doctors" mistook my poor ass as a doctor and asked me what people would want to eat and hear about using I looked over at his brochures and said that, we need that, and he said "Great, about the food!"
I wrote him a quick list, he left and spent about $700 brought it back and I was in surgery.
Doctors are running in the room getting food and leaving and laugjing their asses off, banging on the viewing window and give me a thumbs up.
Hours later Doug walks down to fire me and he wants to make this public and soon as he does many doctors say to him "We aren't operating here anymore we will perform surgery at "X" from now on"
Doug turns red and looks at me and said "those documents you have are company property and I can have you reported for theft"
I said... "go for that hope my personal records help you achieve that goal in the short term because there isn't any trade secrets and I'm not bound in contract to any conditions that prevent such a thing on my part."
I stayed till a drunk driver hit me.. And the fines... They had to pay out 1.2 million a month in fines for 13 months.
Exposed wiring, and so so so much more.
@@johnnyguillotine1673 That equates to 15.6 million dollars, sweet chip ahoy. "You dont have bad jobs, just bad bosses", had a bad boss myself, she was new and didnt have much authority yet and suddenly threatened to fire me while getting in my face because i wasnt making enough food, and when I did complained about how there was too much and some of them were getting burned, quit the same day by being petty and leaving my work clothes while driving away during a heavy shift.

I also reported that HR was enabling her by covering up her drinking problem.

@@patrickm2912 how long till the greed of management make that a thing of the past? its a pertinent question, ps thank you for replying,
@@patrickm2912 You can be descended from military personnel, too. I have USAA through my grandfather who's an Army vet.
HR head who tried to butt heads with the CEO was probably lucky not to be sued by the company on top of being fired.
Why would you be stupid enough to butt heads with the CEO?
@@c.s1393 You have a god complex? 🤷♀️
Either that or the CEO is Forest Gump minus quite a few more little old IQ points.
Sorry for everyone who has been given the shaft by HR.
this makes me nervous to get a job... here i always thought HR were great
HR isn't for the employees, its protection for the company
Why do you think Michael Scott hates Toby so much?
No, lol.
It really depends on the company. Learn your company's policy when you get a job and it will serve you well.
HRs whole purpose is to protect the company from you and your coworkers
16:30 faaark. If the guy was a convicted sexual offender, you should have talked to the cops. Of course that is a lot for a scared 19 year old to do when the rapist would be able to access her home address.
Her brother and father shouldn't have wimped out and showed that guy what for.
I learned a lesson a long time ago: HR is pro company not pro people. Always.
My Ex got a contract for her third year at her company. thats unlawful in germany. after the second year u cant have another temporary contract. my ex asked the workers council about it and they talked to the executive and she got fired. Biggest pile of shit i ever saw done by workers council.
HR isn’t your friend. It’s job is to stop people from suing the company.
And judging by some of these stories they're bad at that too lol
Imagine getting fired for using company property on company property, for performing company work. I.e the hr chair
Ironically, as a lawyer, that's not the most ridiculous shift of blame I have seen. Some people want to make the world bear the consequences of their own stupidity.
@@Jose04537 preach brother
I worked for a very well known sports clothing company. Couple of store managers had massive complaint against HR manager, they gave the investigation to that same HR manager to resolve. Nice.
The secret is to find a place that's too small for HR and only has decent/non-criminal staff
I love USAA, my daughter totaled her car, best customer service I’ve ever had. I’ll never changed insurance companies! They are well worth the money!!
What?
HR???

HR=Human Resources
🤣
What does USAA have to do with HR?
16:50 Why bother with a tl;dr if you are just going to rewrite the entire thing?
18:40 just call DOT on every truck telling the DOT Agent that the driver was given a false Bill of Lading, on sealed loads.
They have the power of CEO, morals of a lawyer, and competence of an intern. Such nice folks!
Always save your emails because HR will disable your work email or email different emails to throw you off
Yup, have all of your documentation on a USB stick or forwarded to a personal email before you ever say a word to HR or mgmt.
This gave me more chills than any scary story I've seen on UA-cam.
The first story happened to my mom at Amazon. She got a gift card for the mix up.
You can spell horror without HR...
OMG. "You can't spell horror without HR." I know my comment is a year late, but THAT is a bumper sticker!!!
@@josepherhardt164 Glad you liked it.
Thanks for the lesson of having backups, always!
Had to file a complaint about my boss.. some serious stuff and my HR told my boss word for word what I said
Manager of a different department of my old job had it out for any female staff around the same age would make me do stuff that wasn’t my department on threats of write ups and yelled at me for being slow (despite my actual manager telling me I was actually one of not the fastest in our department and often that I had extra time and helped out others with tasks)
eventually another staff member shoved me and caused me to have a mild PTSD attack turns out nasty manager is also HR ! and wrote me up for overreacting despite it being told to all managers that I’m disabled (autism and Anxiety problems)
Ended up with the attack getting worse ended up calling my parents and walking out on their advice
I you don't trust your boss or CEO, why the hell would you trust the person who has an office right next to them?
HR is there to maximize profits
HR is there for regulatory compliance to the countless laws and regulations. The need for it creates barriers of entry for upstart businesses; thereby creating favorable conditions for existing large companies
Whenever I have to interact with HR I have my phone hidden and recording audio, incase I have to get in contact with a lawyer afterwards if shady shit happens. HR is there to protect the Company, not you, you aren't the one that pays them. Always record any audio of your company conversations incase you need to "use their word against their word", this has literally saved my ass more times then I'd like to admit
I would do this even if my state were a two-party-consent state for audio recordings. Never trust any kind of unusual meeting or interaction.
"It's company policy that you have to tell us which company you're moving to."
"What are you going to do if I don't? Fire me?"
Sicking your own insurance onto the company's insurance for HR's illegal actions is hilarious fantastic
Yeah, but you don't get anything out of that. Because of the false report on OP, OP could sue for libel and defamation. And his/her attorney would be laughing all the way to the bank.
H.R. and horrible management is why I don’t mess with people outside of work.
I’ve said it a million times. HR is there to protect the company, not you. The sooner you realize that the better.
Remember what HR stands for. You are just a resource to them.
Plot twist: sometimes they do place blame on innocent workers to save someone's behind
I walked out on the meeting saying that
1--you claim all the items are facts in the video but as soon as you use words like "might" and "possibly" it stops being facts and are then opinions
2-- the video claims we can refuse the attend a meeting about unions and I am invoking that right
3-- I've been a member of a union and if you are so afraid of a union starting then you need to look at why they'd try to set up here
25:52 is a good summary for me and the corporate world.
I got one for this, but its a long story
2 years ago I worked for a company that was contracted with Amazon, about four months before I left they just hired this new guy wasn't paying attention and ended up hitting my car tearing the front bumper off
Supervisor then said he would cover the cost but wanted me to go to some guy he knew in downtown LA which was a 3.5 hr drive and it would take this guy a week to get it done
Couldn't find any information on his guys so I insisted that I take it to a local Body Shop gave him quotes he refused them all and I was forced to go to his guy this guy has my car for 10 days and doesn't even do a proper job
He just did a shoddy job of remounting the bumper when everywhere else I went stated that I needed a whole new one, as many of the mounts had been broken
When I saw how bad of a job this guy did I brought it to my supervisor saying that he had given his word that it would be like new and even had emails and text messages between us backing this up
He basically laughed in my face so I went to HR they then proceeded to ghost me for three months until I was dragged into the meeting room at the warehouse where it was my supervisor, my dispatcher, and the HR representative
HR then started reprimanding me for the smallest offences as well as claiming that I was harassing them and then proceeded to fire me.
My dispatcher later apologized because he was not on board with this and knew that I was in the right
Got my revenge though because I began working for another third-party Amazon company that was in the same warehouse and all of the drivers that work for my first company ended up leaving because they didn't want to deal with a supervisor and HR that just intimidated them into doing what they wanted and the company went under 1 month after I left
15:10 i would have asked him politely why he thought it was ok to behave like this
If someone falsely accused me of a vehicular offense, on paper, in an official report, there would be a libel and defamation suit up their azzzz before they knew it.
Companies get away with so much shady shit
I sat in a meeting as the hospital CEO began to lecture me about the situation..... She said in the future Sue blaa blaa....l am not Sue! Sue was sitting behind the her. I had worked at that small hospital for 15 years.
HR tend to be power mad misfits these days.
Who cares what HR says, report that 45 year old creep to the police, then quit.
The NEVER FUCK WITH USAA statement, Cannot be any more truer.
HE is not there to protect you. They're there to protect the companies
Two things:
- Be aware that if you work for a small company (in my case, less than 20 employees), there probably is no HR.
HR should be mandatory for companies over a certain size and it should be a Government job the company has no control over
