I have owned my M1 MBA since the day it was released to the public. I went with the base model of the MBA M1 only because I had planned on using it for work. My workflow does not require me to do any graphical rendering of any kind, I actually complete my workflow through the web browser; because browsing apps have gotten so good that it does not force me to download apps. However I do have Office downloaded onto my MBA only for when I need to use my computer offline. The other reason on why I went with the base model M1 MBA is because of the lack of fan. I hate fan noise, even if its quiet i still hate fan noise. I have had computers in the past with fans and i can have 10 tabs open in chrome and it still requires the fans to kick on. The M1 MBA, I can have as many tabs as I want open and no fan noise what so ever, and the MBA M1 still feels very cool to the touch. The other reason on why I went with the MBA M1, is that its a typist dream to type on, and the TracPad is the best in class. Why I also went with the mBA M1 is because of the support from Apple stores. Apple retail stores offer the best in class customer care and I love that if I ever have an issue I can just walk in or set an appointment to go into one of their stores and 99.8% of the time my issue can be solved right then and there.

You should contact Lenovo. Their new 16-inch Thinkpad P1 and Thinkpad X1 Extreme are probably the most powerful, still compact, laptops in the Windows camp.
Great video but I’m disappointed you just didn’t give us an approximate runtime of the battery life on the XPS simply based on your experience of using it for the days for a typical workload. Battery life is really one of those benchmarks that you don’t necessarily need any fancy test for, it’s just a user experience type of thing. I know we have the numbers from last year’s XPS but I was curious to see if 11th gen brought some small improvements maybe.
I've had an M1 air since release, but I've recently ordered an XPS 9510 to try it out. I like the Air, but the screen is too small. If I don't adore the xps, I'll wait for the 14" mbp to try that out.

Yeah, I'll pass on the Dell. I had a Dell G7 with known thermal issues (unknown to me at purchase) and then a year later I bought an Alienware M15 R4 which had thermal issues too. NEVER AGAIN.
I was won over by the specs and reviews of the Dell 9500 and bought one last year. And obviously the new 9510 looks amazing. BUT Dell's customer service is sooo bad, the worst I've dealt with with any product, that I would never by them again. My 9500s mother board died in a week of buying and it took 4 months and phone calls all over the world to get a replacement. No department seems to talk to each other. You get constant automated responses to give you the sense they are on it.. But in reality no one cares. As soon as I got a replacement I sold it. I could not cope with the idea of ever having to deal with Dell again. It really took all the fun and excitment of a new machine away. I've since bought an Asus. Let's hope they are better.
I've had an XPS 13 since 2016 and the only problem I've had was a swelling battery. Dell support here in Switzerland was fantastic, even though the laptop was out of warranty. The difference in support is because Dell's support tends to be local. HP's support here in Switzerland is not good in comparison.

When reviewing last year’s 9500 model Gary recommended base model without the Discrete graphics card. But in this review for 2021 he recommends the minimum usable model to be with discrete graphics card. Has anything changed since then?
I think macbooks overheat too, im software engineer and just setting up few docker containers with few virtualized servers destroy the mac (i have macbook pro), but i dont deny xps's thermal issues, need to clean those fans regularly, they really hold up insane amount of dust which impacts performance massively when you put some stress too. only reason macs may stay cooler is very limited software options , and ones that are available are quite optimized to not stress system.

Every other tech reviewer raves about Mac and Dell keyboards. For me there are two truths. 1. The greatest keyboards on a laptop are on ThinkPads, at least on my T460. 2. The greatest virtual keyboard on a phone was the BlackBerry 10 on-screen keyboard. I have a MacBook and an iPhone and I miss my old keyboards every damn day.
@@TheEverydayDad I would encourage it! However I can’t say whether the latest ThinkPads have kept the same quality of keyboard that I experienced. In any case, they’re different from the MacBook keyboard and trackpd because they have a little more force and feel, when you get used to the trackpoint and the left mouse click immediately next to the left thumb, having a big trackpad on the MacBook just feels like something’s missing. In fact, I bought the external ThinkPad keyboard long before I bought my M1 MBP and I still enjoy that ThinkPad keyboard experience on MacOS.
While you noticed that there are thermal problems of the CPU, you still considered configuration without the dedicated GPU unusable. The integrated Intel CPU is sufficient for most user, simply dismissing this option is not objective, especially so if you consider that RAM and SSD can be upgraded.

But you have to keep the Dell plugged 🔌 in to win 🥇 This makes the Dell laptop 💻 a desktop 🖥 computer. The Dell becomes a laptop when it is running on battery, or else mobility is negated. Blessings 🙏
I've been supporting Windows desktops for 10 years professionally. Apple has not increased their prices, so 10 years ago they seemed crazy expensive, today however they almost seem the cheaper option in many cases. I don't like that they intentionally lock you out of things like ports on the laptop until you spend 2k. However, overall the bang for the buck just gets better and better with Apple and gets worse and worse for Dell (I've supported Dells for 8 years of the 10).
Great comparison. A lot of the "what is better" will come down to what you use the laptop for. And as far as keyboards go, I think a lot of it comes down to what you are used to. For me, there is nothing as good to type on than the classic IBM bucklespring keyboard, so no laptop ever made meets the bar. However, the old Thinkpads were good for a laptop, followed closely by the classic dell D-series. Today, I don't consider any laptop keyboard to be "great" although I haven't had the opportunity to try out the one on the newer Macbook lines. Personally, I use a 15" Dell latitude these days, at least when I'm away from my desktop rig (I prefer to work at a desktop). I am a Linux user, and recent Apple products are nearly impossible to use with Linux (you really don't own an Apple product, you're just paying to use it) while Dell and Lenovo are pretty Linux friendly (The Dell XPS13 is actually available from Dell with Linux pre-installed).
Nice video! Still hanging for the battery test on the XPS 15 as well. I've got the oled model incoming and a little worried about all those pixels and dedicated GPU sucking that thing dry.
I have the OLED 9510 and I'd say around 6-8 hours with light usage really. Bit of UA-cam, Web-browsing etc at around 80% brightness. I'm in 2 minds about whether to return it as the trackpad has some wobble.

You clearly arent a serious user if you consider gaming laptops. Dell has far superior warranty and repair policy. I'd only consider Dell on Windows laptops, but honestly at the moment Apple is crushing all the Windows laptops with their own ARM chips. My Macbook Air lasts full day with full charge. In fact 1 day and a half on average, and I'm using it actively... Not playing games or video encoding, just browsing the web, streaming and doing word processing and excel etc. Last time I went sleep it was at 46% and when I woke up it was at at 42% 8 hours later...

Being a M1 Macbook Air user, I agreed with the suggestion, there are some use cases and sometime for doing gaming I am using my windows laptop.
I just went with MacBook Pro 13 for work and Xbox/Switch for gaming. Works perfect for me.
I have the first XPS with the thin bezels (4K touchscreen) bought like 5-6 years ago IIRC, and I still use it every day . These new ones have way better screens, but reading these comments sure makes me think twice about upgrading
As I've noted, I sold my M15 and switch to an M1 MacBook Air (8/8 512) and I love it. My youngest needed a new laptop for HS, he has always used Windows but is all Apple otherwise. We ordered him a new XPS 9500 with 16/512 and the 1650 ti. He wants to play some games but will use his gaming PC for that most of the time. They had the 9500 with that config for about $1200 last week... I couldn't justify and extra $800 for an 11th Gen, 3050 and 3200 vs 2999 Mhz memory. Thus his 9500 cost almost exactly the same as my Air... will be interesting to see what we think of each once it finally gets here.

Well how was the xps and air been?
I upgraded from the m1 air to the xps 15 9520 for college. Don't regret it, I still use both because they're both good at their own things.

Ouch that sucks, I would hope that if they are going to make these kinds of laptops they would be able to support them better.
I've had an XPS 13 since 2016 and the only problem I've had was a swelling battery. Dell support here in Switzerland was fantastic, even though the laptop was out of warranty. The difference in support is because Dell's support tends to be local. HP's support here in Switzerland is not good in comparison.

I'd really suggest testing Lenovo's keyboards and track pads... Honestly not bad
Especially the ThinkPad series
Over the years they’ve reduced the key travel of thinkpads in order to make them thinner. MacBook keyboards aren’t so bad by comparison these days
The keyboards on the old ThinkPads were incredible. Today because of the thinner profile, they aren't as good. But I think you can say the same for most major laptop brands.

2. The greatest virtual keyboard on a phone was the BlackBerry 10 on-screen keyboard.
