    My dad called it maize ; mostly, we call it corn. I have never farmed, but I admire farmers. I’m a city girl and closest I have come to farming is container gardening. We grew tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants. When our sons were young, they helped. So happy your new friend was a big help. How do keep the animals away from the maize? You have so much energy, Jael! Wish I had it, but I’m almost 76. So, I’m slower now!😄

    • @jaelofthevillage
      @jaelofthevillage  10 місяців тому

      You did great. Container gardening is a thing especially for the urban gardeners. Our cows are tethered so their movement is restricted to where we want them to be.

    Hi Joel I'm from Lesotho it's next to SA so do plant maize for our staple food called Papa so we plant in September and harvest in May, June, July depending on if it's ready by the way we plant the yellow corn or maize❤Thank you for inspiring us

    we have machinery for harvesting crops in Kenya but mostly for large farms, i prefer the way you are doing it because your neighbors get some money to help in this hard economic times, we need to create more jobs for our village mates, thanks for always giving us good content.

    Hello, Jael. Hello Orry K. Thank you for helping Jael with the chores. That was quite a workout! Jael, 1. How many harvests of maize do you have in a year? 2. Do you have a mill at home to grind the dried maize into flour or do you have to take it to a miller somewhere? 3. How long will today's harvest feed your household? As always, your compound looks great! Thanks for sharing. Cheers!🙏🙏

    • @jaelofthevillage
      @jaelofthevillage  10 місяців тому +2

      We harvest twice in a year. Maize is our staple food but we also love to eat rice,pasta,bananas,potatoes etc. This harvest is more than what we need in a year. We still have lots of sacks in store from the previous harvest.

    Hi Jael. Hi Orry K, nice to meet you, I'll look out for your content. Jael I really like your narration, it flows so naturally like you have had some training. Great job! My mother was a small scale farmer and maize in the fields was harvested the same way. Orry looks like she's done this before, no problem pulling and tugging at the gunia. Do you go to the mill for unga? Oh my I simply cannot get over your yard, it's so beautiful.

    Hi Jael. Im interested in knowing how you pay your farm workers? In crops or in money? I have a container garden. I am planting my citrus trees and fig trees in the ground this year. They are mature now and can withstand the heat. I live in Phoenix, AZ US and in summer the temp get up to 120 degrees. Water is scarce even in the rainy season. Peace and blessings. You are doing great.
