- A rare glimpse at people's daily lives in western Algeria as we go behind the scenes at three different weddings.
Summer in Algeria - the largest Arab country in the world and the biggest in the African continent - is a popular time of year for traditional, elaborate weddings, particularly in the lead-up to Ramadan.
At the heart of these celebrations are the brides with their hand-made outfits, their jewellery and the henna parties; as well as the delicious food that accompanies every step of the marriage process. Plus the music and armed horsemen in tribal war dress.
This colourful film takes us through the rituals and significance of Algerian traditions by following three different wedding ceremonies.
We speak to heritage researchers about Algeria's marriage traditions and see how engagements and arrangements are formalised. This film is an intimate look at the preparations and rituals of these rich and sumptuous family celebrations.

in Algeria it depends on the region. the Algerian dialect differentiates from a region to another. there's a dialect that's influenced by Arabic, there's dialects influenced by french, and there's that's influenced by Tamazighth which is the original language of Algerians, and North Africa in general. and it can be a mix. that's why it can be different from Arabic most of the times.
and there's regions and tribes that solely speak Tamazighth. like Chaouis, and Kabyles in Kabylie region.

I am an Indian (Bengali) and I relate to the riot of colour and sounds, the ullulation by the elderly females (in Bengal, we call it 'uludhhoni'), the sending of gifts (food, dresses and cosmetics) to the house of the bride and the groom by the family members, the bridal feast and the relatives making a fuss over the bride and the groom and the traditions being kept alive through such ceremonies.

WOW, this is amazing, I enjoyed watching the Algerian customs and values when it comes to marriage and weddings. I realized it's about two families coming together and become one. Very similar to my tradition, only men's day, praying together, agreeing on the dowry and celebrating the bridegroom. Women's day having fun, gifting the bride, dancing and celebrating! I love the traditional wedding dresses, they are so beautiful, the brides look so beautiful and everybody is happy. Amazing, May God bless all of the newly weds with a home full of children and happiness!

I wanted to mention that the video tells about the algerian wedding traditions only in the city of telemcen ( west side of algeria) ...algeria is a wide country and has a lot of cities with various traditions and gastronomy.

@Caterina Nova you stupid fool. Algeria and Morocco and Tunisia have a lot of similar traditions that comes essentially from amazigh culture. And concerning muslim traditions they are inhereted from the Ottoman empire which Algeria was part of but never Morocco so clearly Moroccans stole Algeria's turkish heritage. And before speaking about things you don't know go learn some history.
