  • Today I want to talk about why proper breathing is essential for good health and share a few exercises you can use to ensure proper breathing throughout the day. There are two ways you can breath. One is chest breathing and the other is diaphragmatic breathing. I'll talk about the difference between these two as well.
    Diaphragmatic breathing is what we're looking for throughout the day. There are a number of health problems that can occur when we habitually chest breath instead of breath with the diaphragm. The exercises I'm sharing will help reprogram your current breathing habits so you don't chest breath all the time.

    Thank you so much. I’ve been very stressed out lately and It’s about two days I’ve noticed myself trying to breath in more air in my chest than I already have. I’ve noticed some chest pains and I got scared I tried to think why my chest was feeling like this, I found this video it’s amazing and I really appreciate it. I feel a lot less tension and stress.

    Just did it and I feel so much more relaxed plus it feels like tension is leaving through my stomach.. It's like when you hold your wrist for a while then let it go and the circulation flows. that's how my stomach feels. I'm also feeling a little more sleepy

    • @DoctorBen
      @DoctorBen  3 роки тому +1

      I’ve found personally when I release a lot of chronic tension I end up being very tired and sometimes need a nap. I feel like it’s just my body finally getting the rest it’s been unable to get up till now.

    Does this work better on lying or upright position?

    • @DoctorBen
      @DoctorBen  2 роки тому

      Thanks! There isn’t a “better” position, just different. But most people will have an easier time relearning proper breathing laying on their back with their knees point toward the ceiling.

      Breath control can help alter or shift your mental state, but it may not get to the root of the problem. You may just need to look for other sources of the issue.

    Docten Ben should be very soft? If I breathe much air even with belly I stayblightheaded

    • @DoctorBen
      @DoctorBen  2 роки тому

      I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking. But if you normally breath high in your chest instead of with your belly, your body may not be used to the better oxygenation of belly breathing. Also make sure you’re not hyperventilating when belly breathing.

    Hey doc-question:
    Doing this exercise, although my chest my not rise, I do sometimes feel muscles activated in my chest. Are those just accessories muscles doing their job or should I be wary of any muscle activation in the chest whatsoever?

    • @DoctorBen
      @DoctorBen  3 роки тому +2

      Respiration involves a ton of muscles! Its fine if chest muscles are involved. What you want to avoid is filling only the tops of the lungs where oxygen absorption is less efficient. Think more like filling the lungs from the bottom first. As the lungs fill you’ll get more chest and shoulder rise.

    Breathe in through nose and exhale through nose or mouth. None of the many videos I watch never address this. What is the proper way, whale through nose or mouth?

    • @DoctorBen
      @DoctorBen  Рік тому

      Optimum breathing is in through the nose and out through the nose. That’s how we’re designed to breathe.

    i think i understand, lying down.
    Somatic breathing not belly breathing
    That's what i need to forget my understanding in bbreathing into my back, and directing my breath and if this might help with what might attribute to bodily functions?......thank you

    • @DoctorBen
      @DoctorBen  Рік тому

      Belly breathing really means using the diaphragm rather than the neck muscles. Most people are chronic neck breathers and practicing belly breathing retrains people to use their diaphragm.

    What about kapalbatti the Indian way for hood breath

    • @DoctorBen
      @DoctorBen  2 роки тому

      That’s more of a forced exhale. Also a useful practice but this video is more about resetting your nervous system to use the diaphragm rather than the support respirator muscles to breathe.

    Breathing exercise is an essential part of yoga. The yoga can be taught by a yogi who can converse with God.
    So learn breath exercise, not from a scientist, but from a yogi
