Definitely lower that blade on cuts like that. Sure, the blade guard is there but its better to be as safe as possible.
Letting stock rise up and down on the blade like that is likely to cause kick back, please use some kind of out-feed support.
Lastly, the anti-kickback pawls on your guard should not be up that high. Are they on correctly or does Ryobi allow you to position them there?
Looks like a decent saw.

Isn't there a better dust collection system for this type of saw to where there is a lot less wood chips flying out of the saw and into the air?

Just because I put them up and forgot to drop them back down again. Was my mistake.

These saws are garbage! Nothing is square and the whole thing is sloppy,very cheap build quality, and the worst part is that RYOBI won't sell you parts for it, you have to send the whole thing to a repair center for any little thing, save yourself a bunch of trouble and buy a better unit!
I bet they made this as a "throw away" type unit if it fails. I have liked it so far, but I am not needing super accurate cuts either. I am sure my neighbor that is a wood worker would hate all over it, but you buy what you need for the job you are doing. I didn't want a $5000 saw for a few fence pickets now and then.
