  • Victoria needs to teach Diesel that his rough behavior could get him excluded from the pack. She devises a test so that when Diesel starts biting he gets taken away and placed in the cellar.
'It's Me or the Dog' follows world renowned British dog trainer Victoria Stilwell as she aids dog owners whose homes have been destroyed and relationships stretched to breaking point by their disobedient canines. From unruly hounds to pampered pooches, Victoria has seen it all.

Does Diesel get enough exercise? Lack of exercise can make huskies go bad because of their endless energy.

sma sta to answer your question, no I don’t have a husky and I’ve never owned one, but I’ve had experience with high energy working dog breeds, such as German Shepherds and Labradors. I’ve done some research on the husky so I know a bit about their temperament. I’ve heard that they’re pretty independent and can be very strong-willed. Diesel was probably nervous because all that energy didn’t go into lots of exercise or training. Diesel was bred to pull sleighs with a team of other huskies so you can imagine how much power he had that wasn’t being worked off or kept under control.

They know so little about this breed. Diesel not only needed more consistent training from both people, he needed lots of daily exercise including lots of play and stimulation. Huskies need that to thrive. They are a highly intelligent breed and if mental and physical stimulation isn't met they will go crazy and they WILL challenge your role in the pack. It's also good to train them urban sledding using a bike or skateboard. It gives them the opportunity to run without getting lost and that's what huskies need. Teach them to stop and left and right commands when you start taking them on walks so when you harness them up for urban sledding they will know when to run and when to stop etc without either you or the dog getting hurt

Absolutely gorgeous dog!! But Huskies need a incredibly calm, patient, yet also very firm and strong leader. People regularly tell me they cannot believe that our Husky Atlas has a 100% reliable recall, I can leave my front door or back gate wide open and he won’t leave, He lives with 3 small dogs/4 kids with no prey drive triggers or aggression, and he only vocalizes on command. However, people honestly don’t realize how much persistence, time, and hard work it took for me to get him to that point. I was home with him 24/7 the first year of his life. Training was cleverly integrated into play, feeding, walking, guests, and every part of every single interaction we had with him that first year. Exercise was, and will always be, a priority. Husky’s are no joke to train!! It took me close to two full years to get mine so confidently behaved. I feel like our Boston Terriers were a effortless breeze to train in comparison to Atlas. 😂

I have a husky who is still intact as well. We also live in an apartment. Huskies are amazing dogs with a lot of character and personality. He's constantly exercised to release all that extra energy. I've established being the alpha and he knows it. Kota was a rescue who was in an abusive home. He's just under 3 years old. I love my doggo, but it's constant work. He's great with people, calm when he's in the home. I don't suggest having a husky if you're timid or weak. I lucked out by having such a great dog, so I really feel for this couple.

Thats not the appearance of a relaxed dog. If your own dog turns his ears back, please watch his whole body language. Are the eyes nearly closed? Is he pushing his body into your hand or does he lean away from you? Are his muscles hard or soft? Does he panting?if yes, is the tongue long and wide or like a spon?

@@Lisa-ih7fk How does you pet her? Try to sit beside her, with your body center of gravity away from her, dont pet the head, pet the shoulder or the neck slowly, dont stare at her, if you wanna talk to her, just with a soft and friendly voice (no high pitch). Dogs are talking to us with theier body language, but you are talking with your body language too. Dont lean over your dog or sit infront of her, face to face. If she feels uncomfortable she will turn away her head and pushs the ears back . Depending of the situation the behavior "ears turns back" can have many many different meanings. Always analyse every part of your dog, because sometimes she is turning the ears back but every other part of her body is showing you the opposite. Turning your back on, or removing from a room, are not the best, clearest ways to communicate to a dog who's jumping, humping, or biting what you do and don't want from them. Eventually either should work, but it's not very clear communication, which dogs need, since we don't share a common language.
Imagine you're with someone with whom you don't share a common language. If they turn their back on you, or remove you from a room, you may get the idea something's wrong, but not exactly what, or what it is they do want from you. This is compounded when the other someone isn't even of your same species.
A faster, clearer, and more direct way is to give some kind of correction immediately when the dog shows the unwanted behaviour (a firm "No," a spritz from canned air, or whatever will stop them humanely), followed by an immediate reward (GOOD dog! a treat, or similar) as soon as they stop the unwanted behaviour and show the behaviour you do want. That makes it very clear, and they'll learn much faster what you do and don't want, because you're showing them both, very clearly.

Funny when he got put in the basement he immediately lifted his leg. I hope the owners washed the place with soap and water.

What is Diesel like now that he is fully developed into his own dog? P.S. Never let a dog lead you, Never let them into the house first. Never let them out of the house first. Never let then be first at anything except for your car. Unless you can let them jump over you after you are in and sitting. But if you want your dog to watch your car, let him or her own it. LOL

Larry Can you give some more information and advise pls. Thinking of buying a gsd first time owner. What is the key to being a master, alpha and good dog owner. What should you never do regarding owning a dog or giving it too much freedom like this dog diesel.

Jake Warren Is there any chance a dog can turn on you, even if you treat it with kindness. What if you get scared will the dog pick up on that. How do you become the Alpha/Master and get the dog to respect you at all times. Thanks for advise

Fyrna Rose Thanks for your advice, will look up. Dogs are pack animals just like wolves, lions and hyenas. They the cousins of the the animals I have mentioned, it's been proven long time ago.

A Mahmood They were at one point but the wolf has been so bred out of dogs it's not really possible to compare the 2

My dog was bitten by a pitbull a couple months ago. Before, he ran and played with other dogs, but he can't socialize with other dogs anymore. I guess my dog's traumatized. I want my dog back😔

His denting then, can´t really help the bites. Still needs some discipline but it would be better to get him some chewing toy

Gonna use some of this to try and get my sisters husky to leave my dog alone, whose a bulldog. Already know he did something to her hip, ripped a hole in her ear. Throws her and everything else.
