    Quite disappointed with CBCS currently.. Dropped off a 10 book submission at the Dallas Fan Expo for "On-Site Grading" Friday a.m. before the show opened as vendors were mingling. When attempting to pick them up on Sunday the 19th I was told they weren't able to be processed and were going to have to finish at their facility and ship em to me. Over a month has passed since then. I have yet to hear anything about them, despite NUMEROUS attempts, via email, telephone, and FB Messenger. Their lack of response leads me to believe they're currently lost and would prefer to scramble to find them/hold out on telling me as long as possible.. Kinda outta control considering the expected TAT was 48hrs.. This was my first sub through them, not so sure it won't be my last depending on how they play this out. We shall see. Thanks for the constant content buddy.

    I prefer CBCS but they have forced me to go back to CGC because of their 45w TAT at standard and recently raising the express price $20. So my option was wait a year or spend $72 per book. CGC is fine but I wish they would fix their case the books can shake inside the outer case. As always good vid Regie.

    Competition is key - Agreed! I think the CBCS plastic slabs are a little bit more sturdy too, and from my understanding, no newton rings ever!
    I did get some books back from CGC yesterday and I’m happy to say that my new books already have the new QR code on them, which I’m a big fan of… but CBCS has been doing that for a long while now. We can thank competition for getting CGC to add that barcode.

    Another great video, Regie! So nice to see someone finally highlight the Raw Grading service at CBCS. One other important difference between CGC and CBCS is the noticeably higher quality of CBCS slabs.
    It seems like someone is constantly vlogging about waiting over a year for a massive CGC submission and getting back an overpacked box with multiple broken slabs.
    But even without the higher incident of damage is the problem of Newton's Rings that appear (by some estimates) in as many as 30% of CGC slabs. These are the spots where the differing plastics from the inner mylar and outer slab touch and create what almost looks like an oil spot of high prismatic reflection that is especially unsightly on darkly colored comics.
    Since many of us started collecting long before CGC started grading, there are a lot of genuinely signed comics out there. While some collectors were spooked by the video of a collector sending in a fake autograph that got authenticated by CBCS, the frequency of that is very low; in fact that may be the only verifiable example and he picked a very easy signature to fake. If the signature is complex or remarqued there is a basically zero chance of a false one passing the authentication vetting process, which makes CBCS the ONLY option for comics signed before 1999 or for any of the tens-of-thousands of LCS sponsored signings where a CGC employee was not present.
    If CBCS upgrades their label just a bit, it will be the game-changer for most collectors.

    I personally love the idea of raw grading. But I asked around in Reddit about peoples opinions, and the general impression that I got was people felt like since the book is not in hard plastic, that it could get bent or damaged some time between when it was graded and when it was sold. So they wouldn't actually trust the grade. I do however think it might be a good way for someone to get better at grading, by sending books off and seeing what they come back with, although that might still be a little expensive.

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  2 роки тому +1

      That same argument can be made for slabs. A slab is not 100% protective from drops or UV. At the end of the day, raw grading is an option for some not all-just like slabbing. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment bud.

  • @binkysphinx
    @binkysphinx 2 роки тому +1

    Someone may have commented on this already, but I think you missed the most important thing about CBCS and their raw grade service... You can have them pre-screen your books to a grade you desire, with NO 25 book minimum like CGC and if your book doesn't hit the grade you want to encapsulate at, you can have them raw grade those books, which is a hell of a lot better than just getting a stack of rejects that still wind up costing you $. Also, they'll raw grade magazines and Treasury sized editions!

    I used CBCS for my Marvel Spotlight 5 because I was worried it had color touch and regardless of whether it did or not - the label would come back blue. Which to me, is a big advantage for CBCS over CGC. Obviously, I prefer CGC over CBCS (57 CGC slabs vs 2 CBCS) but it helped me decide to choose them over CGC. Also, their cost was better and it came back super quick. The MS5 did NOT come back with color touch (resto) which was a blessing!

    I agree with your thoughts about competition. I also noticed that the new CBCS slabs are now more robust compared to their older slabs. However, I wish that CBCS will make their labels look "prettier" for display purposes. I also wish that CBCS's fast track/express options are more affordable. That being said, I have almost an equal amount of slabs from both CBCS and CGC and I respect them both.

    When CGC or CBCS uses the term fmv they are talking about raw values not graded. The value is also used for insurance purposes. No way they are going to pay you graded prices if your raw book is lost or damaged.

    Great video Regie, I do have 2 questions: 1) are collectors buying/paying the raw graded comics CBCS certifies under the raw grading service? Is there a less value since it's not encapsulated? 2) I noticed CBCS has a list of names that they certify for signature validation, is it limited to just those names or can they verify any signature?

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  2 роки тому +1

      I’ve only seen a raw graded book once for sale so I can’t speak to how it’s been valued. I personally would struggle paying grade prices for a raw graded book. Again, my thought behind this option is that it’s best for those that do not like encapsulation but would like to have the PC books graded.
      Cbcs has the availability to verify a large number of signatures through Beckett. I’ve never seen a capped list of names but better to contact them to be safe.

    Good arguments & good video on CBCS, however I am still not a fan of slabbing comic books, but understand the increased value of such. p.s. still cannot believe it takes CGC 230-ish days to grade a PRE-75 book or you can go fast-track for an additional $15. Ouch.... Also, I believe you can beat-up on CGC by lowering there expected FMV on a book in order to squeeze it into that $400 threshold. I talked to them about that fact and they said that they could work with me on the prices, but that was two-years ago and I have not done anything since then....

    Ok let’s say you have a raw UF4 that can either go 9.6 or 9.8 . What would you put as fmv when sending it to CGC ? 1300 or 500? I mean isn’t that their job to grade it and not have you guess ? What if you declare its value is 1300 but it only grades at a 9.6 so it’s worth 500 or so . Will they refund the difference ? I’m sure not but they should .

    • @RegieCollects
      @RegieCollects  9 місяців тому

      Declared value is insurance. If something goes wrong with the book how much coverage do you want? If you put down a $1 for a $100 book they reserve the right to increase the number. Having a declared value of $1000 for a $1 book also doesn’t make sense. Pick a number that makes sense to you and roll with it.

  • @evanwilliams3895
    @evanwilliams3895 2 роки тому

    I mean. It’s nice that they do offer that signature service, but at the same time, experts can be fooled. It’s happened numerous times with signatures and counterfeit items where it’s forged so well it’s indistinguishable. So I think CGC keeping that integrity of the signature being witnessed, while keeping possession until grading is good thing. Having their yellow label it’s guaranteed that there was a certified witness there that saw the signature, rather than the off chance it’s a forgery. Not to mention their private signings they do as well which is a huge plus if that’s something you’re into.
    Personally, I have to suffer from their $80 USD international shipping cost, so sending books I want to be graded to these private signings is a huge plus for me since I still end up preserving the condition of books I want to keep mint such as Vengeance of Bane. Now I’m not sure of the cost of CBCS international, but I can imagine the cost will be up there as well
