Has a causal relationship ever been established between gum disease/health and diabetes/heart health? Seems obvious that people who don't care about oral health would also not care about other aspects of their health, but genuinely curious to know.

For anyone in the UK, you are able to get a prescription for Finacea 15% Azelaic Acid from The Independent Pharmacy, an online service where you fill in a questionnaire, upload photos of your face/symptoms, and this is reviewed by a dermatologist who can approve prescription where appropriate and the cream/gel is sent next day delivery. This saved on trying to get an appointment with a GP (anyone in London knows how hard that can be) also saved on the cost of having an actual appointment with a Dermatologist which was not in my budget at this time, although under normal circumstances I would prefer to have that 1:1 time with a Derm!
I just started on my 15% Azelaic Acid and I am seeing better results than with my previous version from The Ordinary 10%.

fellow dentist here! you're absolutely right! especially a lot of research has been done showing the direct relationship between gum health and diabetes! controlling either one also improves the other. best wishes to all other dentists out there during these times.. we are so high risk being in such close distant to people's mouths so most work has halted. i'm still treating emergencies though so the anxiety is very present! stay sane and safe folks :)

There is definitely a connection between your mouth and your body and body systems. I have lupus. One thing that my rheumatologist has me do is use a water pick every night and get cleanings every 3 months. I definitely see a difference in my levels when I have missed a cleaning, have a cavity, etc. I also notice a difference in the acne around my jaw, etc when I’m not keeping up on my dental care.

i absolutely love azelaic acid! i use the paula’s choice 10% booster and have had great results for my acne, but i really really would love to use the 20% concentration. my skin was very dry and very very sensitized when i started using it and i feel its anti-inflammatory properties have helped both my sensitivities and my acne!

That’s how I started too with the PC Azelaic Acid! Then when I got 15% Finacea it was a game changer. It’s definitely strong so you’d need to hydrate a lot.

I just got prescribed Azelic Acid with Curology and I’m so excited to try it! I also purchased a rebounder because of your videos 😂 Would you consider doing a video on hydrating your skin in dry climates where there isn’t moisture in the air to draw from? I’m confused about which humectants to use.

    • @lorainemcgillivray77

Hi I would avoid hyaluronic acid as it really needs moisture in the air to draw from, whether you spritz over and under still isn't enough. Glycerine, urea and beta glucan work well for my very thirsty skin and we use a lot of central heating in Scotland most of the year. I only use HA in the Summer when the humidity is higher here. Hope that helps.

Hi Dr. Dray - I was prescribed Rhofade in March for my mild/moderate rosacea subtype 1. I used it for only 4 days before developing severe rebound redness along with swelling, skin texture change, burning and stinging. I got through the rebound redness (for the most part) but now I am flushing and flaring daily with no triggers (for a month and 10 days now). I went to the derm while i was experiencing the rebound redness and she initially prescribed me antibitoics which did nothing for my inflammation and pain. She then prescribed steroids but I was too cautious to use them since they can have their own rebound redness effect. I went to another derm who also prescribed steroids (a different one) which I tried on my arm but it made my skin peel so no go for the face. Met with her again and she prescribed me Zilxi and Finacea to check out. Are either of those good for a person with subtype 1? I have no acne just major inflammation and redness from the Rhofade. And my skin is incredibly irritated now. Thanks Dr. Dray!

But I can bet your dentists office is being negatively affected by this shutdown. Where I live the governing body of dentists is super strict and have been closed since March 16. So glad my mom and I got our teeth cleaned in February.

Hey, Y'all, I wanted to give a shout out to The Ordinary's 10% Azelaic Acid Suspension which over the past 4-6 weeks has done more to "de-angry" my lower face than any other product in recent memory! I do use it only at night and on top of Klairs Calming Blue cream because my skin is such a big dang baby but still I can see about a 50% reduction in redness on the left side of my mug and @ 65% reduction on my right side (oddly, my sleeping side.) Folks with sensitive skin might want to give this a try. 😊

    • @annespan65

@@delcycallacondo6039 I have not had any purging with this product nor any peeling -- I think the moisturizing formula really helps keep skin from overreacting. During the summer I have been using Facetheory Lumizela A10 serum every other night. It contains a touch of BHA as well as my beloved colloidal oatmeal (many thanks to Dr. Dray for educating me @ that amazing inky!) I expect to be back on The Ordinary cream each nite when the cold weather returns as I need every stinking layer of moisture available once the central heating comes on lol.
