Not good. Even 10.3”-10.5” AR’s are barely meeting the minimum 2500fps for reliable fragmentation of the bullet. With a 8.3” your probably getting 2200-2300fps out the muzzle with 55gr. 10.3” is really the minimum barrel length you would want for a practical rifle. 8.3” will not do a great job at stabilizing the projectile so it’s possible you can get baffle strikes or end cap strike using a suppressor and will not be a dependable rifle for defense. Fine for punching keyholes in paper within 100yards.
@@m4a1JAY I doubt you would get baffle strikes as long as the suppressor is mounted correctly, 8" 300BLK barrels aren't having baffle strikes, that I've heard of.
@@chickennuggets2929 Why would you doubt it? Most suppressor manufacturers have a 10" minimum barrel length requirement for 5.56. 300BLK out is different. Larger bore suppressors don't have a minimum barrel length restriction.
That 10.5" setup is almost identical to the way I've designed the 10.5 build I'm working on right now. I've decided on a few different brands compared to the ones on that build, but all of the components are almost perfectly placed to where I want to have mine set up. Also, sweet choice on the FDE for it. Great video and some great builds. I can't wait to get my 10.5" finished, and hope it is as functional and looks as nice as yours!
I'm really enjoying this content! My only suggestion was that you include a 12.5 barrel length in the mix. Curious to see how the data would have compared to the other rifle lengths with the different ammo you are testing.
I hear a lot of people say 11.5-14.5 barrel lengths have negligible ballistics out to distance. So I guess it’s just preference of shorter gun/lighter weapon vs more rail space at that point.
@ ja2022 your not really losing that much going lower.. so people are going smaller. sure an ar15 was developed on 20 inch barrels and 16-20 would be ideal for velocity etc. But going down to 10.3-11.5 your not seeing that much of a drop off considering how light and more compact the gun is at that point, also consider silencers are a big part of all this.. they add length, hence the preference for shorter weapon systems.. the thing is.. what situation are you engaging the distances your imagining?!! if its precision target shooting and you like to shoot bullets through bullet holes, than get a 30x scope and a bench and enjoy that bolt action. but if your talking about fighting, or real world concerns.. those 10-14 inch barrel rifles are hitting at to those same distances and are deadly.. when would you ever engage past 200-300 yards?? those barrel lengths smash at that distance.. realistically the engagements are close proximity and you can break out a sniper for those longer ranges

Enjoyed this video. I have an Aero 11.5 with a light attached to a pressure pad. Eotech as the main sight, lower 1/3 to be able to flip up irons and still use em. I do the same with my front iron- flip it forward. I tried working with a higher mount but personally don't like the hassle of detaching a primary sight. Gives me much more space. Also, have a Zenit laser upfront. I don't run nods bc broke college student but as my main primary rifle, I like to have an option to point and aim. Since it's a green laser, it is very easy to see for me. Can also be picked up and used by family, hypothetically. I had an LPVO on it with a canted red dot but wayyy too heavy to LARP around with lol. I went back to EOTech bc of it
Personal setup 11.5 barrel with linear comp, allows for a 12" hand rail, running MBUS PRO backups, Romeo4T red dot, scout light HLX kit, blue force gear QD sling. Works really well for me. Want to swap the red dot for a GLX 2x prism but I'd have to get a QD mount for it so I can still use back ups unobstructed.

Cool video guys. I went with a 13.7 because I like having a longer rail. I'm able to have a full size light and will eventually have an ir device and I will be able to more comfortably grip my gun both strong hand and off hand. I dont have a can but I have a surefire 3 prong in case I want to go throw one on later.
on the tan rifle,why did u use a pic rail adaptor for your surfire instead of just using the mlok version? also why did u put a aimpoint h2 on a nightvison gun? h2 doesnt have night vison setting

Were RTS back up irons a consideration for the 10.5? Seemed like it would have been a good application. Especially since the flashlight was further offset by the pic mount.
Do suppressor add to the violet velocity? Say if we have a 10.3 or 10.5” would adding a traditional baffle stack can enable to bullet to contribute to accelerate? Also what is the shortest barrel we can get with a mid length gas system?
No because it's the functioning length so it's from the end of the buffer tube to the end of the barrel and that means it has to be unfolded to function.

I haven't heard anything about sbr's getting banned. Can still pay the tax stamp and register it. Whats most likely changing is pistol braces, they are becoming a no-go. Maybe that's what you're thinking?
I'm only into the first rifle, and noticed that his justification for not having BUIS' was that the Unity mount has them built in. The only issue with that is that the Unity 3x magnifier mount renders the built in irons unusable. I didn't notice the optional QD attachment on either mount also. I'm assuming that's the one you're talking about? If so, yeah, I caught that as well. Kinda curious on the reasoning behind it. I understand that with the RDS/Magnifier combo, along with the laser/IR illuminator in the ATPIAL, that irons would be redundant at best, but why not mount a set of 45°s, if you decide you want to use them at all?
@@austinproduction19 That is on the 10.5" build though. The issue is on the 11.5 build. The Unity Fast Magnifier Mount gets in the way of the built in irons in the Unity Fast Mount. Neither of those mounts have QD attachments, so they can't be removed quickly in the field.

First of all I see no point in going any shorter than 11 1/2 inches as you lose too much velocity and we all know if you know anything about these guns that velocity is king! Secondly, suppressors are a bad idea when it comes to a self-defense firearm. You are losing half of the battle by mitigating the oppressing report of the firearm. A more than average determined intruder will be more apt to fire back at you if you are firing a suppressed weapon, however, if you were to fire an unsuppressed weapon at them in a CQB situation the report of a suppressed weapon will make them think twice. Especially if you are using a blast forwarding device with a JP Enterprise flash hider (for those who’d complain about muzzle flash). Please use common sense and have ear protection at the ready beside your bed as well. I use electronic ear protection that allows me to hear while at the same time protecting my hearing.

Signature reduction in a civilian setting is laughable unless you're referring to end of the world scenarios. I'd much rather have them shit themselves at the report, psychological warfare also plays a part. If SHTF I have ways to get signature reduction without having to pay and play with tyrannical ATF games.

Suppressor add a little, but nothing really significant. As Eric said, 12.5" is our shortest mid length.

Triarc offers a 13.9. Still get an Oal of 16 with some muzzle devices. Length is a good jack of all trades.

Yes, but in tactical situations, you don't want to be making noise undoing velcro for any reason. So this works better for our needs.

The Eotech itself is QD. If he popped it off he should be able to see the irons over the top of the riser.

Adhira the unity magnifier mount comes standard with an ADM qd lever, so you can take it off to use irons
