Thnx for your transparency. The art niche is a bit different vs other channels. I wholeheartedly agree that switching angles every 10-20 seconds or throwing broll on your video is not attainable with painting videos. I’m on my way to monetization and experimenting with different type videos just to see what works and how people respond etc. But…the most important thing is for me to stay happy 😊 with what I’m doing or the channel will seize to exist due to creator burnout. I think a lot of artists struggle with the business side of stuff. You mentioned a lot of stuff is regurgiated & performative. Authenticity is definitely rare.

I used UA-cam Shorts to blow my channel up. Took me 7 months to reach 150k subscribers. I just got my checkmark and the silver play button. I posted 4 shorts per week the first 3 months and then went to 2 per week. Now, I'm planning on adding in some long form content to boost the income. My first month being monetized I made over 2k. Keep at it!

I’ve been 15 years on UA-cam, made 389 videos, I spend up to 2 weeks full time for video planing and production per month, and make about 80 USD (below one hundred) from UA-cam directly per month. I'm right there with you but, not UA-cam. I started in 1992 selling real estate. It didn't work then but, I'm still a never give up type. 1 year, 29 days on UA-cam. Actually, started in 2014 but, changed the niche Sept 1, 2023.

That's the issue I have and it's going very slow because my videos have past 365 days and now I lose watch time every day. I knew that was coming. But, it is hard to keep going. Another 5 years maybe I'll get monetized. Getting too old to keep bees maybe, I should start an art channel. Main thing is when I started I declared to myself, I would not quit. I've watched two of your videos now and subscribed, too. Happy artistic UA-cam fun.

Are you concerned at all about lower Average Percentage Viewed on longer videos? Like if you make a 60-minute video, if someone watches 15 minutes that's good watch time but only 25% view percentage.

Hmmm, that is an interesting perspective. I guess it would depend what your shorts are about! I personally think my shorts help reach thousands of new viewers who, if interested, may check out my longer videos and subscribe to my channel. If not interested, I assume they’d just keep scrolling shorts… but maybe I’m wrong, lol!

Maybe a “oil painting for dummies”. I am sooooo clueless when it comes to “why pick this vs that oil mix, what paints are truly the best bang for your buck? What canvas? What to prime with? Drying time? Etc” Other ideas: how to paint water droplets (like the one in your recent painting) in oils. How to paint skin texture. Etc

Kayla, I heard you mentioned Kelly stamps. Do you still watch Her videos? I think she comes across as conceited and tries too hard. I love your genuineness. You definitely don't try too hard and are hilarious in the process. I prefer real people like you. I wonder if Kelly let the success go to her head... Because now she makes a crap ton of money from UA-cam and her more recent videos are not like her videos in the beginning at all. She's evolved over time and I don't really like who she's become. Glad you got monetized. I'm in the process of doing that. They make it so difficult to do on here!
