Great review. It doesn't sound up my alley but I like the way you described it.

“Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of Holiness.” Psalm 29:2
It’s funny, you’ve struck upon a couple synchronicities of things I’ve been pondering in my life recently! I had a devo earlier in the week where beauty was discussed as a reflection of God. The devo was speaking mostly of beauty in nature, but I think it’s applicable elsewhere. There are multiple passages in the Bible about beauty being a reflection of God’s splendor. As a bookish person, and a bit of a thrift nut, I’ve wondered if my habits have tended toward the idolatrous as well. However, if the beauty of nature or the things we surround ourselves with constantly remind us of the goodness of God, I truly do think that they’re meant to serve as reminders of Him in our lives and hearts.
I’ve been reading The Secret History, too, and listened to multiple interviews with Donna Tartt. The Dickensian influence in her work is no mistake, she said in an interview he’s one of her biggest influences! Both wonderful story tellers!

So beautifully said! Very cool how we've been thinking about the same things :)
