I've long held the belief that Mariah Hill has been a Skrull the whole time, but Fury has known the whole time. She may have been Sorin the whole time. That's why Fury trusts her so completely, even letting her know he faked his death in Winter Soldier. Because he knows her loyalty is to him, not Shield. This level of trust is a vast departure from the comics, where she is trying to undermine him all the time.
