I was amazed at how over time, the more Cabbage Patch these two look like. Zany!
Ironically enough, cleaning old games, especially taking one that looks bad and making it look passable, is a huge stress reliever for me. I find it relaxing, though I’m sure I’d feel differently if it was my job.
Agree 100%. I got a pretty yellow looking Dreamcast a few years ago so I gave it a good cleaning and it actually came off. Still looks brand new and I couldn't be happier.
I do the same thing lol
It is cathartic when they are mine.
It is tedious when i am doing it for work...
I'm the same way with my movie collection. Love cleaning and alphabetizing them. Nobody understands but I'm always semi excited/ happy when my kids mix em up and I have to reorder them. That and updating my database.
IMO The Prophet's Song from A Night at the Opera is Queen's best "deep track". I believe it was track 1 of side 2 off the album (I only had the CD cuz I'm not THAT old). It's Bohemian Rhapsody on cocaine and perfectly transitions at the end into Love of My Life.
Sorry about not putting a tag for my message. I realized that after it was sent. You guys should check out Darkside of the Ring, you'd love it! Of the 3 seasons, the 2nd is probably the strongest and my favorite. There wasnt an episode I felt was unnecessarily I skipped b/c I didnt know or care about the subject. A few episodes I recommend: The Brawl for all, Herb Abrams and the UWF (My favorite episode) The death of Bruiser Brody, Dr.D and the Slap, and WCW's show in North Korea. So far in the first 3 season it's covered all the heavy hitters you would think. One other thing I will say before I stop gushing about DSOTR, is that the episode about Chris Benoit does end on a happy/positive note for as dark, and bleak, and depressing that episode was.
Ian, here's your cooking science 101 for the day.
When you blanch the potato it removes a considerable amount of the starch. Removing the starch makes the potato brown incredibly well in any cooking scenario. Baking, roasting, frying......
March of the Black Queen is still probably my favorite Queen song. It's like a prequel to Bohemian Rhapsody.
My favorite Queen song is Jealousy, which is a deep cut. I love y'all talk about my favorite band.
What game was the last message about? I couldn’t understand the caller
Kid Icarus: Uprising?
@@WaywardGnomes is correct, it was Kid Icarus Uprising
On the topic of modern arcades, there's a nickelcade just down from where I live that caters heavily to the ticket redemption crowd, the whole front half of the shop is set up with claw machines and skeet-ball, etc, and some good games, too. My daughter and I have a tradition of playing several rounds of the new two player Space Invaders that's really fun every time we go. However, the whole back half of the shop is dedicated to more traditional arcade fair, and it really is amazing. Let's just say they truly get the millennial parent. Front half is all of the more modern redemption stuff for the kids, and in the back are rows and rows of all the stuff we knew: a whole wall of pinball machines, then several rows of arcade cabinets like Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Mr. and Ms. Pac-Man, TAPPER (with the original bar features and Budweiser logo), Marble Madness, Q*bert, Defender, the good shit from the 90s and 00s, too, like the Simpsons arcade and Street Fighter II. It's a pretty great establishment. That's the model imo of how you keep arcades alive, because they still seem to be doing great.
“Spread Your Wings” is a great deep cut but I’ve heard it on classic rock radio in Philly. Best Queen deep cut, imo, is The March Of The Black Queen off Queen II.
The BBC version of Spread Your Wings is one of the best tracks Queen has ever done, IMHO.
@@LinkRocks There’s a BBC version 😮??? Oh now I must listen.
You must have a really great radio station if they are still playing deep cuts and not running off an automated playlist of the same ol crap. Here in Ky we have one station that I know of D93 that plays lots of deep cuts and great songs you don't hear even as a huge music nerd. But the rest of the stations around the south rehash the same playlist and you will hear the same songs within a day or two. I fear the day that station sells or fades away due to lack of interest as older generations die off.
love the food talk at the end I'm going to have to borrow from those recipes
My sister and I used to type up the play-by-play for RBI Baseball.
There has been 2 arcades that have opened up the last couple of years and they're not bars. Both of them have like 10+ pinball machines and 15-20 cabinets. You basically pay 15 bucks and get unlimited play for as long as you want, even if you leave and come back. One place even sells new and old retro merch. They've been super fun, I hope they can stay profitable
I agree with Ian about Arcades and bars.
We have a Pizza restaurant in town with arcades and pinball in Iowa.
I recently dumped my entire collection. 25 consoles, right around 800 games and boxes and boxes accessories. It had just become a millstone around my neck. The huge majority haven’t been out of the basement for 8 years. It’s feels much better to not have to feel like obsessively consuming stuff I never get to actually enjoy.
Collecting starts out fun and ends up being a hassle. I used to always play original hardware for all my retro games, but now I am getting a steam deck and moving to emulation. It is just much easier that way and takes up less space, even if it isn't 100% legal.
@@mikevisby8744 Same. Since jumping into emulation I’ve actually played a lot more than I used to with all the original hardware. Unless you have space to have everything out and hooked up it’s a massive pain to just play a game.
Ian definitely did E-feds
Was pat dissing Quackshot >.<
It's a neat game!
Ian is so into the role playing. He is the sprite style
Ian you know you love it
I’ve felt like the one weirdo not drinking and playing games at a barcade, even though it’s 11am, I’ve got my pre-teen son playing the games with me, and the f-ing games are 80% of their space.
You guys are true classics
There's an arcade inside one of our retro game stores.
One of the biggest problems with the original model NES was that the cart connector pins bend each time one is inserted and it's unavoidable. That was due to the dumb way the carts click down after inserting. The second model is so much more reliable and if you find one it still most likely works. Unfortunately they're much harder to find. So the claims from the videogame store are definitely nonsense considering the cart connector can be fixed with modern replacements.
No one is going to throw away an arcade game these days. The prices are insane. That said, I'm super happy that there's a bar restaurant in my area with great classic arcade games and a really great assortment of pinball. I agree with Ian that it sucks that you have to go to a bar to play a real classic arcade game. I think they take up a lot of retail space and the return on investment is low. Bars can make a lot of money on drinks and the pinball/arcade games are just a courtesy to keep you buying drinks.
Good old Nintendo Dan gets a mention! I bought many video games from him including my copy of Dracula X snes back in the day for like 70 bucks
Whoooa, it's the completely necessary podcast!
I wouldn't mind going to A coffee shop arcade. I could get A cup of Wilkins Coffee while I play 'Street Fighter 2'.
I reccomend Dark Side of the RIng. They also interviewed New Jack before he passed.
Love the Herb Abrams episode the most. That guy lived the rock star life and died because of it. Snorting cocaine off of hookers, running around naked while smashing an office with a baseball bat, what a way to go!
Broken video game consoles can be usually fixed by replacing the capacitors. I have done this to several of my old consoles as preventative maintenance. Moderate soldering skills needed.
If yall look into UWF, be sure to not confuse it with Bill Watts' UWF, which was far more popular.
Herb Abrams' UWF is not related to it at all and has an insane story to it.
UWF-I was a worked shooto style promotion. UWF Watts was Bill Watts trying to go national. UWF Abrams was a coke head trying to run a westling promotion.
Your rosemary tatties are a staple of British cuisine. It's just called a roast potato with ever sunday dinner
Any track off of Hot Space besides Under Pressure is a great Queen deep cut. The live versions of Staying Power and Back Chat from "On Fire at the Bowl" are also great deep cuts and I'm 99% sure qualify under "Never being on a greatest hits album."
Absolutely need to see the Dark Side of the Ring episodes about New Jack and the Brawl for All….and I think “A Prophet’s Song” is the most ass-kickin Queen tune.
ey! Ossining NY!
and Tarrytown!
I picked up a super console Z cube about a year ago and I have to say I love it tens of thousands of games across tons of platforms essentially at the push of a button . The hardware isn’t the best some N64 games have reduced frame rates, super stutter-ey or out right don’t play. PS1 games no problem whatsoever… even a fair bit of Dreamcast stuff plays very well
The video game arcades are interesting how they’ve changed over the years and are now sort of inconveniently in bars if you want to play them. The best vg arcade places are ones where you can buy a day pass and play all you want. And that album with spread your wings is News of the World and honestly every song on that album could be a single. Interesting how you mention how prolific Queen was, because for me there really hasn’t been bands or artists in the last 20 years that have made me want to buy their music. I guess it’s just me though because the newer bands/artists rack up millions of views.
Two words: Boba Arcade. Hell, make it one word: Bobarcade. Whoever does this first will become a millionaire.
I really wish these questions were time stamped. Many of them are…. not as compelling as the title.
Welcome to "clickbait." This is pretty harmless, but they usually have the call mentioned in the title around the 3/4 mark of the video. Gets you to watch the whole way through. It's better for the algorithm. Just how it is. They gotta play the game.
Yeah, I would like timestamps too. I just skip around until I think I find an interesting question to listen to.
man I miss firepro. One of those things I forget about till someone mentions it.
Pat loves the queen album that makes him feel like a woman
Pat seems to have got good mileage out of that laptop. Laptop fan bearings get loud after a few years. Does it get used for the recording or is the the audio/video recording done separately?
I don't know if Ian has had the same laptop all along.
I keep the good games that are worth it. If I have extras, I would sell them away.
Wtf? Yes you NEED Quackshot!
Those slot machines are confusing. You can’t gamble…but you can gamble for toys.
Coffeeshop arcade? In Amsterdam you mean?
I made the mistake of selling my old SNES and Game Gear collections and I regret it. I couldn’t sell anymore.
STREETCLOTHES GOLDBERG
Check out how Herb Adrams died at the very least
Herb had the most insane over the top death ever.
what is your opinion on LA Noire?
Spend a chunk of your life collecting and then sell it?? Nah
I love your channel. Recent subscriber here. Hopefully my channel can be on an equal level one day. I won't forget about the little people lol. Lemme know if you ever want a shoutout. I listen to your podcast as well Pat. All the way out here in Australia.
I don't drink & alcohol makes me uncomfortable so I feel the same way about the bar scene, not for me
It all tastes like pig piss to me. I can't stand it.
Don't sell your collection start a library
True classic you guys are not
Queen is seriously overrated.
The Upsell here is Real!
But anyone noticed how its all aimed at Men..
No woman Viewers
Shoutout to www.nerdhavenarcade.com/ for not being a barcade!
