I’m not an expert, I just got a pencil for my iPad because I like to doodle, but I really start to love it with Procreate. You’re definitely an awesome channel to learn and get better. Thank you!
When I was a growing up in the 50’s I was never able to hold my pencil the proper way like you and others that I’ve been observing. And I remember being taught the correct way to use my arm like you mentioned. For some reason none of the correct techniques felt comfortable for me. I wonder if there are others with this issue like me. I was never able to draw. I think it might be to late for me. I’m fascinated by people’s ability to draw because I’ve always wanted to. I also think artists have an ability to see things differently. Anyway I enjoy watching your talent.
linda1541 drawing is a craft like most things. Just as a person learns to lay bricks, bake a cake, or learn a variety of things, drawing is the same. Just constant practice and learning. You will develop a style and be just as good as anyone with an imagination
No this isn't true! I've NEVER held my pencil properly. I still hold it weird! The best thing to practice is to be really confident in your brush/pencil strokes.
Alice absolutely. knowing which stroke direction is your strongest is the best way to do drawings. A lot of artist constantly turn the page in a way that they can use their favorite stroke direction
This video saved my sanity. I just started digital art after years of traditional, and not being able to make the marks I wanted to on my iPad had me wondering if I had forgotten how to draw. 😆 I was about to give up. I knew there had to be a simple way to adjust something or the other, but I had no idea where to look and what to adjust. Thanks a lot man.
Phew. The new update makes it difficult to figure this stuff out and you’re so far the best ‘instructor’ out there. It’s all about testing what works or not but dang is it a lot for a beginner, haha.
It's really easy to get crazy and HATE procreate with so many adjustments... As a fashion designer that is used to sketch on paper and pencil its really confusing. THANK YOU for taking the time to explain to US. We really appreciate it. I am digesting all this with less stress with your videos !
I haven’t even finished the video, but I’ve already learned so much about brush settings! I didn’t even know I was looking to adjust maximum size, but I absolutely was and I’m so happy I fixed it. Coloring will be so much faster. :D I’m sure I’ll learn about inking, too. I did learn about inking! Brush settings and hand position will make a big difference.
I’ve been a hand illustrator for yeearrss but recently got an iPad air along with procreate so far I’m enjoying my experience thank you so much for sharing theses videos dubbed, to any artist that hasn’t gone digital yet or are still on the fence in regards to purchasing an iPad Air for procreate try this out you will not regret it, I don’t think I’m gonna go back to pen and paper anymore after experiencing this 😃
idk if you’ll see this but i think its really cool that outside your own merch you also added a list of your gear you use for youtube as well as your ipad accessories.
ive tried to make clean line drawings but when i zoom into the lines they end up being jagged, so can you make a video on how to make one of your brushes for clean line art
It is probably going have less to do with the brush and more with your canvas size. I usually use a 4500x5400 canvas....if you use a small canvas, your lines will look jagged when zooming.
Thanks so much for your brushes all the other brushes I have downloaded come out pixelated I tried EVERYTHING I was glad to spend only $5 on these little miracles
Love the way you explain things in detail. Now that you no longer use this free brush and have made your own, what are the chances of you making a new video like this one that's up to date with the current version of the app?
i love your videos! can we get an updated settings view for 5! i know you haven't changed yours but they probably show differently in the new brush editor
I'm gonna have to try this. One of my biggest gripes about procreate is the lack of a true native stability tool. Streamline just doesn't work for my drawing style. I'm curious if this wrist adjustment will help.
So timely! I have been watching a lot of your videos and have scoured the comments sections looking for where you address this...so stoked to have access to this content! Your videos are really helping me to hone my illustration skills and to get the best out of my Apple Pencil and the Procreate app! Thanks man, really appreciate you! :)
Definitely a helpful video. The biggest thing here is probably the screen protector. Not having the pencil sliding around like a hockey puck is just so damn helpful.
....So which brush in your pack is comparable to the Natural Inker 1 [no longer available]? Also wondering if any of the settings for your brush have to be adjusted (i.e. to attempt the line-work in your video), or can I use as is? Thanks.
Great Great video... Im still working on my iPhone with a Bamboo stylist pen. I still work hard and follow your videos. So far I have made the chicken and carrot all on my phone.... Its hard working on my phone but im hoping one day to get an iPad. Thanks for everything you do...
Your vids are the best for tutorials like this was one of the best tutorials for drawing straight lines thanks for doing this vid if you never did it would never know how to draw straight lines
Gallery Alice you can import it to photoshop and there u can change it, however if u use a low DPI when u change it you will have to scale it up and it might lose a bit of quality
Arismendy Bizarre thank you for this tip I was about to redo a project so this was so useful...I’ve subscribed to you and looking forward to what you have to talk about, cheers!
Great video, glad to stumble on it and some of your others! 70 years old and long making art but new to Procreate and drawing on an iPad. (put Procreate 5 on iPad Air 3 with Paperlike screen protector and the Pencil. Ordered the glove - great hint!.) Question: the video mentions a link to the free Natural Inker brush. I don't see the link and don't see Natural Inker in the brush set you offer. With Google I found and installed the Natural Inker by Clay Yount and tried to set the brush parameters in Procreate 5 following your video instructions for a previous version which are somewhat different in menus and parameters. I'm not happy with the results, getting short tapers on the very ends instead of long tapers. (I was successful in creating my own versions of an airbrush and a couple of others from scratch so I think I understand at least SOME of the parameters after much experimentation.) Any hints on setting the parameters for this brush in 5? Or is one of the brushes in the set you offer equivalent and tuned for use? I'd be glad to buy those. Thanks a million. JKJ
I ended up making the standard inker brush in my brush set as a replacement for that other brush. There were some things I didn’t like about that other one so made one from scratch with fine tuned settings-all ready to go as the default
This is great - thanks for all of your videos! I like those tapers you get on your lines. I have the Logitech Crayon now. Would I gain a lot of capability by getting an Apple Pencil and using that instead?
Great video and an absolute blast watching you draw. I’ve found that placing my hand higher on the Apple Pencil than I would a regular pencil helps a great deal.
So I have a bad ass drawing I’ve already done of Wednesday, I used the Baskerville brush, but it’s very pixelated line work, is there anyway within procreate to smooth the lines after it’s done?
Hey there! I was looking for it too and found it! Its just under a different name, but the download file says natural inker brush www.dropbox.com/s/mvk8ijy342b922h/Natural_inker.brush?dl=0

Honestly, it is going to be hard to do a lot of the stuff I do in these videos without an Apple Pencil. The pressure sensitivity is how I achieve the look and feel of most of these lines.
