  • Fantastic tennis between a former World No. 1 (Bob Litwin at www.BobLitwin.com) and another Colorado senior player, the ambidextrous Randy Sontheimer. Hard fought, good match. Nice to be able to serve slices from both sides. Looks a nightmare to play against, great touch.

      He is a nightmare to play against. His left-handed serve has unbelievable spin. Looks egg-shaped when it's coming at you.

    Thanks for the quick reply!! I look forward to seeing them. I would love to see some interviews and discussion of the equipment seniors use. Thanks again for your contribution to senior tennis.

      Hey Ron, thanks for the feedback! I do have some footage of Drilling and Abel. Actually, I have the footage of where I played Brent Abel at the Minnesota hard court nationals. I'll put some of that up next!

    Randy served well. Very effective with running his opponent side to side. Had nice strokes, kind of lived or died on his forehand. Overall Bob was the steadier player. He played his game and didn't let much phase him. His experience showed in the tie breaker.

    It's great to see another ambidextrous player. I've seen Wendall Pierce switch serving hands, not really due to an ambidextrous style, but because of an injury. I've also heard that Brad Stine, coach of Kevin Anderson, can serve very well with both hands. Does anybody else know of quality players who can use both hands or have switched for some reason?

      Back in the day, Luke Jensen could serve great with either hand. He and his brother Murphy won the French Open in Men's Doubles so they could really play

      I couldn't agree more! I've played them both and they don't give you any wiggle room at all. You can't just rally with them, waiting for an opening. They create their own openings pretty quickly!

      Yah I'm 53 and I want no parts of them. Here's the funny part. Mac is 60. And they want no parts of him LOL.

    did that guy with the hat just served with left and then played a forehand with right??

    • @10smike
      @10smike  6 років тому +1

      YES!! He is the best ambidextrous player I"ve ever seen. He says "God gave me two good arms, why not use them?" I played him some time ago and really had to watch close how he was serving, lefty or righty.

      yes, idd... not moving too bad for his age, and he has a kick serve ! with right he's better at serve... with left he slices more.. but he has some balls taking the ball early and going for the point

    I think Sontheimer was the more skilled player, but Litwin's never ending backhand slice chopped his opponent up. There were so many unforced errors by Sonty resulting from the safe slice by Litwin. I get beat up by those same slice & dicers. I think Sonty is better off giving Litwin a loopy, no pace ball to his backhand and approaching on that every time. Litwin would be forced to hit a shoulder high slice with no pace and would likely float it back, as he did on those balls in this match. So Litwin's strategy was better and got him the win but Sonty looks capable of beating this guy if he adapted his strategy and came to net.

      Sondheimer uses a Big Bubba, but I think it comes in two sizes, like a Junior Bubba? And he owns both (I hit with him a couple of times and noticed that). I don't know which one he uses here.
